Claire had just parked when she suddenly felt a blinding beam of light on her, cold and piercing. Instinctively, she turned her head.
Gilbert stroked Kate's head with fond indulgence. "Little foodie, don't eat too much later. Your stomach can't handle it."
"Gilbert, just this once, don't lecture me." Kate leaned over the seat, giggling as she stretched out her delicate hand. "I'm a little short on cash lately. Give me some pocket money? I'll pay you back once I start working."
Gilbert pressed his lips into a thin line, then drew a gold card from his pocket, holding it playfully between two long fingers.
She always asked him for money, so he had come prepared.
Kate's eyes lit up as she reached for it.
But he lifted his hand higher, leaving her grasping at air.
"Oh, come on! I won't lose to you." With a defiant shout, she leapt and snatched the card, laughing triumphantly. She kissed it, then threw her arms around Gilbert's neck and planted a sweet kiss on his cheek.
