After dinner, Claire and Alvin worked late into the night. It was nearly dawn when Alvin finally drove her back to the Watson estate.
The mansion was silent, shrouded in darkness, everyone had long since gone to sleep.
Claire carefully opened the front door, tiptoed back to her bedroom, and let out a yawn, ready to shower and collapse into bed.
But when she stepped into the bathroom, undressed, and turned on the shower, she froze.
No water.
What was going on?
Could the Watson estate really be experiencing a water outage?
She tried the sink and the toilet, nothing. Completely dry. It seemed the water supply had been cut off.
With no choice, she slipped her clothes back on and stepped out.
The hallway was pitch black, eerily quiet.
She considered asking one of the servants, but at this hour, everyone was fast asleep. She couldn't bring herself to wake them.
She sighed. Tonight, she had returned far too late.
