Daniel's hand stayed suspended in front of the door for a few moments, then he knocked gently.
The short sound of the knock echoed in the quiet alley and very soon the door opened with a soft sound. One of the house servants, wearing neat clothes and with a calm face, slightly bowed his head.
"Mr. Daniel."
Daniel just nodded and stepped inside.
Varnos's house, despite its healthy appearance, had a strange feeling. Everything was tidy, the walls had been repaired, and mana flowed calmly in the air… but beneath this calm, a faint emptiness could be felt. As if something that used to fill this space was no longer there.
This wasn't the first time he had come here. During the past three months, he had come here many times for different matters, mostly to talk about the damage done to the Guild and to discuss ways to find solutions for them.
Daniel walked through the hallway without pausing and reached the main room.
The door was half-open. He pushed it and entered.
