Chapter 122 - CHAPTER 123

c123: Great Gift From Saffron TV Station!!

Short Film: "Professor Oak's Laboratory"

"Yo~ Welcome to Professor Oak's Laboratory! I'm here to care for the Pokémon who may one day become your first partners."

"This lab researches Pokémon evolution every day. The deeper you explore, the more fascinating and mysterious Pokémon become. Truly, they're such lovable and remarkable creatures."

"If you ever have any questions about Pokémon you don't understand, feel free to ask me!"

Student M: "Pika pika... papa papa…"

Student N: "Chaaaar... papa papa…"

"Thank you~ Thank you~" Professor Oak chuckled as he showed a sample Pokémon short film he had produced.

"Thanks very much for the warm applause. As you just saw, Pokémon short films can be a wonderful way to introduce Pokémon and their Trainers to a broader audience."

"In summary, today I hope everyone can create a Pokémon short video."

"To help you highlight the charm of your Pokémon, we've also prepared materials for Pokémon Puffs and various themed props you can use freely for decoration."

Once Professor Oak finished, the students quickly sprang into action. With Drone Rotom units and Yoko's broadcast team providing full technical support, the students' earlier worries about shooting and editing had disappeared.

Those who were once anxious were now brimming with enthusiasm.

"Whoa! We're actually making a real Pokémon video!"

"I said, Serena, got any great ideas for this?"

Shauna, whose dream is to become a top Pokémon Performer, was visibly thrilled. For her, creating a Pokémon-themed short film felt like living her dream.

"What should I do…" Serena, also pursuing the path of a Pokémon Performer, was equally excited and a bit overwhelmed by the creative possibilities.

"Hey Shauna, enough dreaming. Why don't you and Serena come help coach the rest of us?" Gary called out, walking over with a half-frustrated, half-humbled look.

"Today's task isn't exactly in our wheelhouse. We're kinda stuck, and we don't even know how to begin!" he admitted.

"Yeah, yeah!!"

"Exactly!" added Tierno and Trevor, nodding in agreement.

"Baa… Sorry!" Shauna replied bashfully, rubbing the back of her head.

"In truth," she began, gathering her thoughts, "just like Professor Oak said, Pokémon short films are like mini promotional videos. They can either focus on the Pokémon alone highlighting their unique traits or show off the bond between Trainer and Pokémon through their interactions."

"Before filming, you should think about what makes your Pokémon unique, and how you usually spend time together. Are there any moments that were especially memorable or heartwarming?"

"As long as your short film either shows the personality and traits of the Pokémon or demonstrates the emotional bond with its Trainer, it'll be a strong entry. That kind of story always earns high scores."

Shauna had previously made it clear to everyone that her goal was to be a top Pokémon Performer. Thanks to that, she had a solid grasp of both visual storytelling and performance fundamentals, which made her a valuable guide for the others.

Gary: "So we should highlight our Pokémon's traits…"

Ash: "Or show the bond between Trainer and Pokémon…"

After hearing Shauna's advice, both boys fell into thoughtful silence, each already visualizing their own short film concept.

Shauna, who had earlier relied on Ash and Gary for help with battle strategies, was now returning the favor by mentoring them in her own area of expertise.

Looking at Ash's Froakie, a Water-type Pokémon originally from Kalos, she suggested incorporating scenes that would show off its agility and water-based techniques, such as Water Pulse or Bubble.

For Gary's Fletchling, a Flying-type Pokémon that could later evolve into the Fire/Flying-type Talonflame, she advised combining elements that emphasized aerial agility and perhaps hinted at its potential fire abilities, even if they hadn't yet emerged.

Then she turned to Tierno, whose Poliwag had a bouncy, rhythmic nature. Shauna suggested that Tierno, who already loved dancing, choreograph a simple dance with Poliwag to bring out its playful personality and charm.

Trevor's Sandshrew a Ground-type Pokémon that thrives in dry terrain was given a suggestion by Shauna to take it out into the field and film wild Pokémon in their natural habitat. Her idea was to use the theme of a nature documentary to highlight Sandshrew's calm demeanor and natural affinity with its environment, allowing its charm to emerge through gentle companionship and shared curiosity while filming.

For Xiaolan, who had been showing promise in the summer camp's earlier challenges, Shauna gave creative suggestions tailored to her Pokémon's typing and temperament, encouraging her to explore themes of trust and cooperation through staged training scenes. However, when it came to Serena, Shauna held back from giving detailed advice.

Because Serena aspired to become a Pokémon Performer, Shauna believed it was important she learn how to think independently and develop her own style. Creativity and individuality were core traits of every great performer. For Serena to succeed, she would need to forge her own vision, not follow someone else's direction.

After Shauna's coaching session, the group, which had once been confused and overwhelmed by the short film assignment, now felt focused and motivated. For many students, this was the first time they had thought so deeply about the narrative potential of Pokémon training and companionship.

Now, each camper had a distinct vision forming in their mind for their Pokémon short film.

~

Without hesitation, the students dispersed, inspired and energized by Shauna's input. They split up in groups or pairs, each heading in a different direction around the dam to begin work.

"Froakie, let's head out! Rotom, today's filming is up to you!" Ash declared with confidence.

Soon, the open dam area was quiet as the trainees vanished into the surrounding wilderness. Ash gently scooped Froakie into his arms, nodded to his assigned Drone Rotom, and set off toward the forest behind the camp.

"Froaa~!"

"Bzzzz~" Ash's Drone Rotom light blue, closely matching Froakie's skin tone buzzed into the air and hovered just above Ash's head. The color synergy gave Ash confidence that the unit was well-matched to his partner's visual style.

"System, scan the Drone Rotom's data," Ash commanded silently in his heart.

[Drone Rotom]

Level: LV.20

Type: Electric / Ghost

Nature: Bold

Ability: Levitate

Potential: C (Standard)

Known Moves (Copyable): Astonish, Double Team, Thunder Shock, Confuse Ray, Charge, Electro Ball

Though attached to drone hardware, Rotom remained a true Pokémon, with its Electric/Ghost typing intact. The system scan confirmed it possessed a solid move set, and its level placed it above most wild Pokémon seen in the area.

"System, copy Drone Rotom's skills," Ash mentally instructed, reaching out to make physical contact with it.

10%… 30%… 50%…

70%… 90%… 100%…

The progress bar flashed rapidly across his vision copying complete.

Though the Rotom had six moves in total, four of them Double Team, Confuse Ray, Charge, and Electro Ball stood out. All four were highly tactical and rarely available to Trainers at the early stages of their journey. On the market, these moves as skill discs could easily sell for over 100,000 Pokédollars, especially Electro Ball, known for scaling in power based on speed differential.

"It looks like after filming today, I'll need to stay close to the other students and copy their Rotoms' skills too," Ash thought, his eyes gleaming with opportunity.

"With 100 Drone Rotoms dispatched by Saffron City TV Station, this summer camp has turned into a goldmine of ability data. Saffron TV really handed me a massive gift."

Smiling, Ash activated the power of origin within him to gently synchronize with the Drone Rotom—preparing for a day of filming and quiet strategy.
