Kai's nonchalant demeanor stunned everyone.
The seemingly unstoppable sword strike against his neck resonated through them, a shock that went beyond physical sensation.
If not for the decapitated bodies scattered around, they wouldn't believe what they were seeing.
"No matter who you are, anyone I target dies!" Suigetsu's raspy voice echoed. "If that were the Kubikiribōchō, you wouldn't be so cocky!"
He swung his sword again, the wind from the strike lifting Kai's hood, revealing blood-red eyes. His nine-tomoe Sharingan spun, unleashing a surge of crimson chakra.
Bang! The sword struck Kai's Susanoo ribcage. The immense force sent a shockwave through Suigetsu, shattering his already damaged sword.
The broken blade flew, embedding itself in a distant pillar.
Everyone's nerves frayed. They recognized him.
"It's… it's Uchiha Kai, the Blood-Red Asura of Konoha!"
"He… he's here?!"
The exclamations shattered the silence. Uchiha Kai was legendary; even the warring nations had called for a ceasefire because of him.
He was a force capable of turning the tide of battle. His earlier dismissal of Suigetsu as a "kid" was perfectly justified given his reputation.
Despite their similar ages, Kai's infamy dwarfed Suigetsu's.
"Suigetsu, run!" Mei shouted. Her mission was to capture Suigetsu, but with Kai's sudden appearance, the situation was unclear. Their only option was to fight together.
"Water Release: Water Dragon Bullet Technique!"
Mei, a Kirigakure genius, swiftly formed hand seals, far outpacing Suigetsu.
A colossal water dragon, accompanied by a deafening roar, lunged towards Kai.
Suigetsu, seizing the opportunity, used the Body Flicker Technique to escape.
The water dragon charged towards Kai.
However, his nine-tomoe Sharingan spun, and his partially formed Susanoo rapidly completed, its skeletal frame fleshing out with armor in the blink of an eye.
The towering Susano'o, dozens of meters tall, shattered the remaining teahouse.
Kai reached out and grabbed the oncoming water dragon, crushing it like an insect.
Bang! The water dragon burst, scattering water everywhere and further destroying the teahouse.
The old shopkeeper inside trembled, completely overwhelmed by the sudden onslaught.
In wartime, civilians always suffered.
Konan prepared to intervene, but a rumbling sound from the ground signaled the rapid emergence of an earth wall, conjured by Pakura behind Kai.
Mei landed amidst the ruins, her gaze fixed on Kai's massive, blood-red Susanoo, a figure resembling an Asura.
She'd heard of the Blood-Red Asura, but facing him was terrifying. This was the pressure of overwhelming power.
Despite her youth and experience in the Bloody Mist, she'd never felt such an unfathomable presence.
"Suigetsu, I'll create an opening. Escape with them.
Don't look back. This person's strength is unquantifiable," Mei said, forcing herself to remain calm. She rapidly formed hand seals, her chakra transforming.
"Lava Release: Melting Apparition Technique!"
A torrent of molten liquid surged towards the Susanoo.
Kai smiled, remembering Sasuke's failed attempt to use this technique against him during the Five Kage Summit.
"No defense?" Pakura asked, knowing the high corrosive nature of the jutsu. She'd fought Mei many times on the battlefield.
"I'm bored. I want to test her strength," Kai said calmly, seemingly ignoring the attack.
Mei, seeing the molten liquid hit the Susano'o, was delighted. "It's working!"
The Susanoo, usually impervious to attacks, began to melt slowly. This was enough.
"Uchiha Kai, it seems you can be defeated!" Mei declared, a surge of confidence coursing through her.
Facing an unfathomable opponent usually brought awe, but this jutsu's effectiveness against the Susanoo gave her a much-needed boost of confidence.
"Is that all it takes to make you cocky?" Kai asked, amusement evident in his tone.
