Zane's POV ~
"What the hell is going on?" I whispered under my breath. My chair screeched loudly against the floor as I shoved it back with so much force. I rose to my feet in one sharp movement, my heart pounding in my ears.
"What's wrong?" Silas asked quickly, his voice urgent, his brows furrowed with concern as he also pushed himself up to stand. His eyes searched mine, tense and wary. "Zane, are you okay?"
"Alfie's phone is switched off," I blurted, my words tumbling out in a rush, shaky and uneven. "I can't help but think something's wrong with him." My fingers trembled as I fumbled with the device, dialing his other numbers one after another but they're also switched off. I slammed my thumb against the screen again, as if sheer persistence could force a different outcome. "Just where exactly can he be?!"
