Zane's POV ~
"I'm good for now," I replied, trying my best to smile through the overwhelming unease. "I'd like to be alone for a while, if that's okay. Thanks, Josh. I'll text you if I need anything… or come find you."
And just like that, I spent the rest of the day in the dorm, my thoughts tangled in what Josh had told me earlier. I didn't even realize how much time had passed until one of the Alphas in the academy knocked on the door to inform me that it was time to go home and that Alfie was waiting for me.
Dragging myself out of the room, I made my way down the hall and, sure enough, found Alfie standing beside the car. Just like this morning, he didn't say a single word. He simply got into the vehicle the moment he saw me, his face unreadable. I followed silently, settling into the seat beside him.
The chauffeur started the engine, and we drove all the way back to the mansion in silence. Not a single word passed between us, just like before.
