Chapter 19 - Nightmare

Have I been too pushy? Did I demand too much, when all she wanted was to protect me? That look on her face, she can't look me in the eyes. She seems so distant now, within her own mind. Why does she avoid telling me the truth, why does her gaze always linger somewhere further away? When had her eyes turned a deep ocean blue? Or were they always like that? Have I ever paid attention her? The soft curve of her chin, the shy glances she always steals towards me, the way she's so meek and yet so brave when it comes down to it. That fierce gaze that blooms on her face when she's determined, when she wants to protect me. Yet I seem so desperate, desperate to keep her safe. I want to stop being so worried, and yet I can't. I keep having nightmares.. Of her.

She plunges deep into the depths of the ocean. The deep growl of something, something that was so close just now. Those cool, distant, deep blue ocean eyes digging into me, as if they know every tiny detail of me. An expression so calculating, so heartless, it shakes me to my core/ When had they stopped being a light grey? It terrifies me, cause that version of her. I don't recognise and.. And I always see her swallowed whole by that creature, its countless teeth closing around her. To it, she must be like a tiny pebble, its massive body diving further into the depths. I hear her voice call out to me and yet I can never reach her. Other times she's before me, apologising, over and over.. And then the ocean closes in around us, swallowing us whole. I can't breathe. I want to be the one to protect her, I want to stand between her and the world, cause I am afraid of my dreams becoming reality, of seeing something I don't want to. A side of her I was never meant to see, I don't want that. I won't ever be able to look her in the eyes ever again. Voices call out to me, seeking me, yet they're not hers. Am I losing myself? Why am I so hooked on it not being her? I just want her to understand me and my worry. I want..

"Galadriel?" The soft voice called out to her, sitting across her on the other bed, blankets wrapped around her frame. The light rocking came through from a especially large wave. They had been back out in the waters. It took a few weeks before they were able to set sail, during that time they had spent it helping around as much as they could to keep the city under control. To restore it. They hadn't spoken much since then.

"I'm fine, Mira.." Galadriel lifted her gaze, deep ocean blue eyes meeting hers. Her breath caught in her chest. She hadn't been able to gaze into Mira's eyes properly for a while now. "Mira, when had your eyes changed colour?" Galadriel finally couldn't stop herself, the words slipped from her mouth.

The silence that stretched before them was louder than any yell, than any hurried explanation could be. "During that battle." Mira answered honestly for once. Galadriel just nodded silently. "Did you want anything?"

"No, you were just spacing out. You even dropped your book." Mira murmured, her gaze turning away from Galadriel. "I was just a bit worried." Her voice grew quieter with each word, fading into a soft mumble.

Galadriel's eyes slid to the book that toppled off the bed, laying face flat against the ground. "Oh, thank you." The wood creaked underneath her weight as she reached down to pick the book up.

Holding it by the cover, opened to a page she didn't recognise. Scribbles across the paper, manic in it their nature, sharp edges, circles drawn over themselves. Words circled, symbols that seemed almost cryptic and creepy. Then she felt it, a cold gaze staring at her. Her eyes lifted and countless massive jagged teeth stood before, massive compared to her. Deep growl echoed from the depths of its gaping mouth. Cold spread over her shoulders as the all too familiar hands steadied her. "Are you afraid, Galadriel?" The massive thing shifted at Mira's words, its eyes, glowing a soft light blue hue, gazed at Galadriel. A pair of three, one with a circle around its pupil, sharp jagged triangle like things pointed towards the pupil. Another in the shape of an X, a circle running through it. And the last looked the most normal, a pupil with lines stretching from one side of the eye to the other. She hadn't even realised it, but the ocean had swallowed them. They were floating above a never ending abyss that stretched deep into the depths. She felt cold, shivers running down her entire body. She couldn't breathe, no matter how much she gasped for air. "No matter how the world may be against you, I'll be there. Don't you trust me, Galadriel?" Mira's nails dug into her blood, drawing a deep red. Her voice brushing right up against her ear, slow and amused.

"Mira, stop this already!" She choked out, yet nothing came out. Her voice drowned out entirely by the ocean. Mira suddenly let go as they slowly drifted apart. A deep roar echoed through the ocean as the woman before her was swallowed by the creature in one swift move. She really was just like a small pebble compared to it. Gone in an instant, down to the abyssal depths.

"Mira!!"

"Mira!"

"Mira.."

"Mira...." Galadriel was sitting, cold sweat running down her cheeks, the covers pooled in her lap. Someone stirred next to her, shifting closer, followed by a soft murmur. "What is it, Gala..?" Mira softly asked, barely awake. Many of the rooms in the ship were destroyed after it had been sunk. Their room had been one of the many, so they were moved here. It's cramped and there's barely any room for two beds. And, well, Galadriel had requested it herself. She felt like she couldn't let Mira out of her sight, something was gnawing at her. "I'm fine.. I just had a not so pleasant dream.." Galadriel replied faintly, slowly laying back down, body turned towards Mira.

"Mm.. So a nightmare?" A soft noise left Mira's lips as she shifted closer asking softly. "Don't worry, I'll be here."
