Sasuke stood atop the rooftop, his gaze icy as he looked down at the people below. The wounds on his body were healing rapidly, visible to the naked eye, while blood tears streamed from his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan.
Moments ago, he had cast a genjutsu on himself—then made it real—effectively erasing the damage he had sustained.
He was breathing heavily. Clearly, this technique, reminiscent of Izanami, consumed an immense amount of chakra and stamina.
Still standing above them, Sasuke coldly declared,
"You really think this is enough to stop me? How naïve."
...
Naruto looked up at him, concern written all over his face, his eyes pleading.
"Sasuke, hatred will only drag you deeper into darkness. It'll only make us lose more. Come back with me."
Sasuke's voice was cold and biting.
"Naruto, you have no idea what kind of pain I've been through. Konoha must pay for it."
Naruto took a few steps forward, his voice rising.
"I do understand your pain, but keeping this hatred alive will only lead to more tragedy. Think about everything we've been through—the days we fought side by side."
Sasuke faltered for a second as old memories flashed through his mind. But they were quickly swallowed by hatred.
"So what? None of that changes what Konoha did to my clan!"
Naruto took a deep breath.
"If we keep living in hatred, Sasuke, where does that leave our future? What happens to our dreams?"
Sasuke gritted his teeth. "My dream is to see Konoha reduced to ashes!"
Naruto shook his head.
"Even if you destroy Konoha, will that really bring you peace? Hatred will only trap you in darkness forever."
Sasuke remained unmoved. His face twisted in fury as he clenched his fist tightly.
"The very thought of destroying Konoha fills me with joy."
...
Just as Naruto fell silent, unable to get through to him, a vortex of swirling chakra appeared beside Sasuke.
Obito emerged.
"You're ready to let go of your hatred for me, then?" he said mockingly. "I've been looking forward to your forgiveness, Naruto."
"I mean, it was an accident that I killed Minato Namikaze... and just a slip of the hand when I killed Kushina. Oh, and releasing the Nine Tails? Totally unintentional."
"Will you forgive me then, Naruto?"
This time, Obito wasn't wearing a mask. The resurrected Uchiha Obito stood in a black cloak beside Sasuke, spouting his cruelest mockery.
Naruto's eyes blazed with fury.
"Obito! You're the one who led Sasuke astray! Everything started because of you!"
Obito let out a cold laugh.
"You're preaching to Sasuke about letting go of hatred. But can't even do it yourself. If you can't let go, why should he?"
Naruto froze.
He was right.
What right did he have to ask Sasuke to forgive and forget?
...
Sasuke spoke up. "Don't lump me in with you. I'm doing this because I want to."
Obito didn't seem offended.
"Don't fool yourself, Sasuke. We both resent this world. Why not destroy it together?"
Naruto snapped back, raising his voice again.
"Obito! Stop poisoning Sasuke's mind! You're a monster, but Sasuke still has a chance!"
"Sasuke, don't go any further down this road! The ones who ordered the Uchiha massacre are already dead! Do you really want to kill innocent people now?!"
Sasuke's face twisted into something even more unhinged.
"So what? I want to destroy everything Konoha stands for!"
His gaze swept across the village. The civilians of Konoha were fleeing in a panic. Watching them run, their peace shattered after his brother's sacrifice, filled Sasuke with a perverse satisfaction.
"This... this is what my revenge means."
...
Obito chuckled darkly.
"Oh no, not everyone responsible is dead. Look who I brought you—the last two remaining."
He activated Kamui once again.
Two elderly figures were tossed onto the ground like garbage—Koharu Utatane and Homura Mitokado, the final members of Konoha's old guard.
Rage erupted in Sasuke's eyes. Step by step, he approached them, his Kusanagi blade igniting with the black flames of Amaterasu.
Naruto saw it and shouted, "Sasuke, don't do this!"
But Sasuke didn't even flinch.
He glared at the two elders, his voice shaking with fury.
"You... your decisions destroyed my clan!"
Koharu and Homura looked at Sasuke in terror. They tried to crawl away, but age and weakness had rendered them powerless.
Just as Sasuke was about to strike, Sakura suddenly burst onto the rooftop, placing herself between him and the two elders.
"Sasuke, please... don't!" she sobbed, tears streaming down her cheeks.
His hand froze mid-air. His voice was cold and empty.
"Sakura. Move."
But Sakura stood her ground, trembling.
"If you kill them now... then there'll be no one left who believes you can come back."
She still couldn't see what Sasuke had become. She still believed in the boy from the Chūnin Exams—the Sasuke from their past.
But the current Sasuke was completely consumed by hatred.
Without hesitation, he swung the Kusanagi. The flames of Amaterasu surged toward her.
...
In the split second before the strike landed, a golden arm of chakra stretched up from below—Naruto.
He caught Sakura and yanked her away just in time.
The black flames hit their true targets: Koharu and Homura.
They screamed in agony as the Amaterasu engulfed them, and were quickly reduced to ash.
Sasuke stared at the scene without a shred of remorse—only the twisted satisfaction of revenge.
But in that moment, something flickered in his eyes. A glimmer of something complicated. Maybe even doubt.
Perhaps, deep down, he knew there was no turning back now.
...
Sakura collapsed to the ground in Naruto's arms, weeping uncontrollably. She couldn't bear what Sasuke had become.
Naruto looked up at Sasuke, his heart heavy with sorrow.
The boy he once called a brother was gone—replaced by a man warped by vengeance.
"Sasuke," he called out, voice trembling, "are you really going to keep going down this path?"
Sasuke turned to him, eyes cold.
"This isn't a mistake. It's the path I have to walk."
Obito grinned with twisted satisfaction.
"Very good, Sasuke. Keep going. Let the world burn with us."
"Let me deliver Konoha its final blow…"
Sasuke began weaving hand seals. A surge of violet energy shimmered around him—the telltale sign of Susanoo.
He was trying to summon the Complete-Body Susanoo, planning to annihilate everyone on the scene.
But something went wrong.
Despite pouring all his power into it, Sasuke couldn't maintain control.
The enormous figure began to form—its presence blotting out the sky—but the light flickered, the shape unstable.
Then, in a pulse of wild energy, it collapsed.
...
Sasuke staggered back, pale and panting. The failed summon had drained him almost completely, both in chakra and stamina.
