Damien, closely following Victor, exited the mansion and headed for the cellar. At the back of the estate stood a sculpture of a headless horse, with a purple gem embedded in its neck. Victor hesitated for a moment before using Edmond's heart to activate the gem.
Immediately, the sound of metallic gears echoed through the air. Shortly after, the statue shifted to the side, revealing a winding staircase.
"After you," Damien said, gesturing for Victor to go inside.
There was no torch in the staircase, so Damien conjured a small flame in the palm of his hand. He figured Edmond used to do the same. Victor didn't fail to notice Damien's use of magic either. At the bottom of the staircase, they entered a room with a single wooden chest.
Damien gestured for Victor to open the chest. He was wary of potential traps, but there were none. When Victor opened the chest, Damien peered inside and as he hoped, it was filled with gold—lots of it.
"How much gold is in there?" Damien asked.
