"It seems completing one quest wasn't enough to level up," Kojou muttered. He'd finished the task easily with his strength and returned to his world. Only an hour had passed, despite being gone for several hours.
"Damn it, I forgot I have a make-up exam!" Kojou exclaimed, slipping his Guild Card back into his Storage Ring. He needed to prepare for his English make-up exam.
He quickly changed clothes, opting not to wear his usual jacket this time. Instead, he wore the summer uniform since the weather outside was scorching.
Though Kojou typically used his jacket to shield himself from sunlight—as a vampire, the rays discomforted him—he decided to change. He didn't want to revert to his old, foolish, and dull self. He also didn't want to embarrass Asagi. Even though she hadn't responded to his love confession, after what they'd shared, he had no intention of retreating. He'd take responsibility like a man.
With that resolve, Kojou finished dressing and left the house.
"I'm heading to school," he called to Nagisa, who was sitting in front of the TV watching anime.
"Take care. Food's in the fridge," Nagisa replied, glancing at him from the corner of her eye—then freezing in shock.
"Kojou-kun…" she murmured, stunned. She couldn't believe her lazy, sloppy brother was dressed so properly—and looked handsome. It had been so long since she'd seen his face clearly that she'd forgotten her foolish, irresponsible brother was actually a good-looking guy.
"I wonder what happened to him…" Nagisa muttered, curiosity unconcealed. Since the basketball club incident, Kojou had stopped caring about his appearance, even going out of his way to hide his identity. Back then, he'd been famous—the only player with skills rivaling the Generation of Miracles. "Did he get a girlfriend to change this much?"
Though Nagisa said it as a joke, she didn't expect to be almost right. While Kojou hadn't received an answer to his confession yet, he did already have a girlfriend—and he'd gone all the way with her.
Saikai Academy, Class B-1
Though the classroom was usually full, it was now summer break. Only Kojou, taking his make-up exam, and Natsuki, supervising him, were present.
Natsuki had long black hair with a fringe and side bangs, dark-blue eyes, and a youthful appearance despite being an adult. She wore a gothic lolita outfit.
"What happened to you, Akatsuki?" Natsuki stared at Kojou with wide eyes, as if seeing a ghost.
"Hmm? What do you mean, Natsuki-chan?" Kojou asked, genuinely confused by her exaggerated surprise.
"Your appearance! Where's your usual sweat-stained jacket?" Natsuki overacted, so shocked she didn't even notice Kojou had called her "Natsuki-chan.""And your face looks more relaxed than usual—that dumb look is gone too."
Kojou wasn't wearing his signature jacket. His uniform was neat and properly worn, his face vibrant and confident. A black necklace with a ring pendant hung visibly over his shirt, giving him the air of a stylish, handsome high schooler.
"You're cruel, Natsuki-chan…" Kojou clutched his chest in mock pain, as if her words were daggers stabbing his heart.
"So, what happened?" Natsuki's curiosity was plain. This version of Kojou reminded her of his basketball days.
"Well, you know… After the basketball club incident and what happened three months ago when I became the Fourth Primogenitor, I was under a lot of pressure. I was always depressed," Kojou admitted with a wry smile. Without Natsuki's support these past months, he'd have crumbled long ago. "But yesterday, I talked to Asagi. I told her everything, and she accepted me—didn't treat me like a monster. It felt like a weight lifted."
"I see… So you told Aiba." Natsuki nodded, though her voice held complex emotions. "But why did that make you dress up?"
"That's… Well, I decided to be braver, more confident. After all, I am the Fourth Primogenitor." Kojou puffed his chest proudly, as if expecting praise. But his expression soon turned serious, crimson eyes gleaming with anger. "By the way, Natsuki-chan… Do you know where my bastard father is?"
"Akatsuki Gajou? No idea." Though surprised by the question, Natsuki answered honestly. She couldn't help but wonder—Kojou was clearly furious at Gajou. "Did something happen?"
"I remembered what went down three months ago at the Blazing Banquet. I need to ask him something." Kojou's tone was casual, but he had no intention of hiding anything from Natsuki. Over the past three months, she'd helped him immensely and become someone special to him.
