During the drive back, Max considered Aaron's question. How would his grandfather react to Marsha's death? Would he change the rules of the competition again?
That possibility didn't particularly trouble Max. If he put himself in Dennis's position, there were now only two serious choices for who would inherit the Stern Empire.
With so few contenders left, perhaps Dennis would find another way to choose, something that might bring an end to the threats and deaths.
'It would be nice to focus on the White Tigers without worrying about Randy trying to kill me,' Max thought. 'Assuming Randy is responsible. But everything could be connected. That's why I'm investigating in the first place.'
Eventually, Max made a decision.
In a way, Dennis had given him another chance. If he had awakened in an ordinary person's life, seeking revenge against the White Tigers would have been almost impossible. Being a Stern had provided opportunities he couldn't ignore.
