Chapter 385: Mermen Lives Matter

Lynn informed them of the situation's particulars.

All of them readily agreed to provide support.

Lynn then thought of Vesemir. But he quickly dismissed the idea. The old master had retired, and since he hadn't undergone the secondary mutation, his combat power was relatively... well, since he already had so many helpers, one less master wouldn't hurt. He had retired, and he deserved to enjoy his retirement.

Finally, Lynn didn't forget the two higher vampires living in seclusion in Novigrad: Regis and Dettlaff. In terms of combat strength, these two were definitely in the world's top echelon. With their participation, the campaign to eradicate the Elder God Dagon would undoubtedly be much easier.

Lynn asked Triss to open a portal to Novigrad for him, and he personally went to seek out Regis and Dettlaff.

Convincing the two higher vampires wasn't difficult. Regis was inherently a warm-hearted, good man. He would never stand by when a friend was in trouble.

As for Dettlaff... though his face remained as cold as frost, he nonetheless offered to help Lynn. This wasn't for payment, but because Lynn was one of the few people in this world willing to show him kindness. Lynn had not only accepted him but had also given him a safe place to live. For this reason alone, Dettlaff was willing to give Lynn his full support.

The next day. Lynn and Triss reserved the entire inn in Vizima, awaiting the arrival of their allies.

The first to arrive, having traveled all the way from Kaer Morhen via portal, were Tissaia, Yennefer, Geralt, and Mousesack. Most of the group knew each other, but Triss was unfamiliar with Mousesack. However, after introductions, they were acquainted.

Next came Regis and Dettlaff. The two higher vampires flew over immediately upon Lynn's summons. Most of the people in the room recognized Regis and Dettlaff. Those who hadn't met them were reassured by the attitude of the others and quickly relaxed around the two higher vampires.

The last to arrive was Marguerite. She was somewhat surprised. Although Triss had mentioned that she wouldn't be the only one assisting, she had no idea the gathering would be this large. What surprised her the most was seeing her own teacher, Tissaia, there. She also noticed Regis and Dettlaff and immediately recognized they were non-human. Fortunately, Marguerite was a composed individual.

Seeing her teacher's calm demeanor, she surmised there must be a reason. She refrained from attacking immediately. After the others explained the situation, she was, like the rest, incredulous that the two higher vampires were on their side.

Lynn first thanked everyone for coming, then informed them of the purpose of the gathering. Upon learning that they were to confront an Elder God hidden beneath Lake Vizima, Tissaia, Mousesack, and Marguerite immediately declared their commitment. Expelling evil and protecting sentient races was, after all, the responsibility of sorcerers.

Yennefer lacked such a strong sense of duty, but having come this far, she wouldn't desert the field. Geralt wouldn't either—partly for his good friend Lynn, and partly for his woman, Yennefer. Regis and Dettlaff held no inherent principles compelling them to fight Elder Gods, but they chose to fight for a friend.

Thus, the group rested for a day at the inn, and the following morning, they departed for Lake Vizima. With several sorcerers in the group, they wouldn't need to take the Fisher King's boat this time.

Arriving at the shore of Lake Vizima, Tissaia immediately created a giant ice ship. The vessel was large enough to hold everyone. Once everyone was aboard, Tissaia tapped the gunwale with her staff. Though it had no sails, the ice ship sped across the water as if powered by rockets, carrying them swiftly toward the Isle of the Black Swan in the center of the lake.

They soon reached the island. Everyone disembarked, and Tissaia waved her staff, dissolving the ice ship.

The altar dedicated to the Elder God Dagon was located not far from the shallows. The altar looked new, bearing few signs of weathering, suggesting it had only recently been erected by Dagon's followers. Perhaps this was why the Elder God Dagon was gradually gaining the upper hand in the struggle against the Lady of the Lake.

However, Dagon's reign was about to end.

The sorceresses remained near the shallows as Lynn and Geralt drew their weapons and stepped onto the altar to examine it. They found it to be a simple altar, devoid of traps, and neither of their witcher medallions vibrated. The rest of the group then joined them.

Next, everyone prepared for the upcoming battle. Lynn and Geralt consumed their Higher Potions. Even though their physical attributes far surpassed the peak of a normal witcher, the potions would still amplify their strength. Given that they were facing an Elder God, any increase in power was welcome.

The sorceresses also drank their respective elixirs to enhance their magical power and accelerate their mana recovery. They simultaneously erected a protective barrier around the altar.

Regis and Dettlaff had little need for preparation, so they volunteered to provide security for the others.

When everyone was ready, Lynn took the blood gem given to him by the Lady of the Lake from his enchanted bag and placed it on the stone platform in the center of the altar, where the Fallen Mermen normally left offerings to Dagon.

The moment the gem touched the stone, it instantly began to soften and melt like ice cream meeting high heat, reforming into crimson blood that soaked into the platform.

A moment later, as if the Elder God Dagon, nestled in its underwater city, had sensed the drop of the Lady of the Lake's blood in Its shrine, a deafening roar erupted, and the ground around the altar violently shook.

The roar seemed imbued with a strange magic, causing everyone present to feel as though sharp knives were constantly twisting in their minds.

Tissaia chanted a spell. A white light spread outward from her, and immediately, everyone felt a wave of coolness wash over their minds, dissipating the knife-like pain.

Mousesack shook his head, clutching his head, his expression grim. "Be careful, the Elder God Dagon has noticed us. Its thralls will arrive soon."

No sooner had the druid spoken than numerous Fallen Mermen emerged from the dark lake surface. Tens, hundreds, thousands... The figures of the Mermen swelled, forming a dense throng that quickly began to encircle the group on the altar.

However, Lynn noticed that despite the vast numbers of the Mermen, the figure of the Elder God Dagon was nowhere to be seen.
