Chapter 384 - Chapter 384: Divine Armament: Aerondight

Chapter 384: Divine Armament: Aerondight

"You seek me out now, so have you prepared yourself to vanquish the Elder God Dagon?"

Lynn nodded. "Yes, my Lady, that is precisely why I have come."

"My Lady, has the power of the Elder God Dagon increased since I last departed?" He then recounted his recent encounter on Lake Vizima, where his attempt to summon her was met with an attack by Dagon's Fallen Mermen thralls.

A look of sorrow crossed the Lady of the Lake's face. "While I am loath to admit it, it is true. I have no foundation of faith in Temeria and therefore possess no power here, yet the Elder God Dagon's strength is increasing constantly."

"If left unchecked, there will come a day when all of Lake Vizima and its surrounding regions will become a festering ground for evil."

Lynn replied instantly and firmly. "I will not allow that to happen."

The Lady of the Lake nodded approvingly. "My champion, your dedication to justice and honor is gratifying. Your strength has indeed reached a level where you can challenge It, yet..."

"The physical form of the Elder God Dagon is far stronger than any creature born of the Conjunction of the Spheres. Even a silver sword would struggle to inflict meaningful damage upon It."

Lynn had already considered these concerns. In the games, Dagon was merely a boss who waited patiently for Geralt to come and dispatch him. It didn't matter when Geralt showed up; once its health bar appeared, any Elder God could be killed.

But reality was not a game. In reality, the Elder God wouldn't stay passively beneath Lake Vizima, nor would it be so fragile that a common silver blade could take It down with mere scratches.

"My Lady, that is exactly why I'm here. In truth, now that my strength has increased so dramatically, common weapons can no longer withstand my usage. Therefore, to strike down the Elder God Dagon, I request the temporary use of the legendary Aerondight."

The heavy blade blank he had been using was well-suited for his power, but it was unpolished and difficult to grip. Furthermore, it was made of common iron, and repeated use had already worn it down. If he were to fight Dagon with it, it might snap mid-combat.

Lynn had considered asking Master Teynsael to forge him a suitable greatsword. A greatsword forged from meteorite steel, and silver-plated, might not break easily. However, since he could eventually acquire Aerondight from the Lady of the Lake anyway, why bother Master Teynsael? It was better to simply take an advance on the weapon now. After all, he was fighting on her behalf.

The Lady of the Lake pondered for a moment, weighing Lynn's proposal. Normally, Aerondight was the reward for successfully slaying the Elder God Dagon. But Lynn had already served the Lady multiple times, proving his virtues. Given her inability to directly interfere in this world, if she missed this chance with Lynn, there was no telling how long they would have to wait for the next worthy champion. Moreover, if Dagon was not stopped now, Its power would only continue to grow. Even if a qualified champion appeared later, they might no longer be a match for It.

With this in mind, the Lady of the Lake decided to make an exception for Lynn.

"Very well."

She beckoned with her hand. A magnificent, hand-and-a-half sword, encased in a swirling sphere of water, rose from the depths of the lake.

"My champion, may it help you cut through thorns and prevail in every endeavor."

Lynn did not immediately reach out to take it.

"My Lady, may I make a small request? Could you alter the appearance of Aerondight slightly?"

"Oh?"

The Lady of the Lake had never heard such a request before. Normally, wouldn't a person weep with gratitude upon receiving a divine armament? However, Aerondight was meant for Lynn, and if he felt it wasn't suitable and wanted a change, the Lady didn't feel offended.

"Then what style would you like it changed to?"

Lynn pulled a piece of parchment from his enchanted bag. He had prepared this long ago, well before deciding to ask the Lady for the favor.

The Lady of the Lake raised her hand, and the parchment floated from Lynn's grip and flew to her. She only needed a glance to memorize its contents completely.

"Are you certain, my champion? To my knowledge, no warrior in this world, no matter how strong, can wield a weapon so immense and heavy."

"My Lady, can you only change Aerondight's form once?"

"If you are not satisfied, I can always change it back again."

Lynn was relieved.

The hand-and-a-half form of Aerondight sank beneath the surface, once again encased in a swirling sphere of water. A moment later, the sphere dissipated, and the sword resurfaced. It had transformed into the exact shape Lynn had drawn on the parchment.

"You may pick it up and try it. If it still feels unsuitable, I can change it again."

Lynn grasped the sword's hilt, lifted it with a powerful heave, and swept it horizontally. A terrifying sound ripped through the air. Even a fully armored cavalryman would be cleaved in half by that single stroke. It would be no more difficult than slicing butter with a hot knife.

"How is it? Are you satisfied?"

"It is perfectly suited," Lynn affirmed. "My Lady, with the strength you have lent me, justice is sure to prevail over evil."

The Lady of the Lake smiled, satisfied. "Good. Now, step forward and hold out your hands."

Lynn sheathed Aerondight and walked toward the Lady. He had an idea of what she was about to do. He held out his hands. The Lady of the Lake placed her hand above his. Then, a blood-red gem slowly descended into Lynn's palm.

"The Elder God Dagon hides year-round in an underwater town beneath Lake Vizima. Underwater combat is disadvantageous to mortals, so I bestow upon you a drop of my blood."

"There is a shrine on this Isle of the Black Swan that the Fallen Mermen use to worship Dagon. Once you have gathered sufficient allies and are fully prepared, take this blood gem to Dagon's shrine, and it will surely lure It to you."

A deity's blood was extremely valuable. A single drop could be used for many things, most commonly to create artifacts to counter the deity or to cast a powerful curse upon them. Thus, the Lady of the Lake was certain that once Dagon sensed her blood in Its shrine, It would appear.

With the Lady of the Lake's blood gem secured, the next task was to gather allies to fight the Elder God Dagon. However, returning to Kaer Morhen now would take too long. Furthermore, most of the witchers were already out on missions that he had assigned them.

Lynn used his Communicator Box to contact Tissaia, Mousesack, and Geralt, who were still at Kaer Morhen, as well as Yennefer, who had not yet departed.
