The Guardian came at them low this time.
Its head was lowered almost to the ground, massive claws tearing shallow grooves through the stone as it charged. The blue light gathering behind its teeth spilled out in a thin, hissing line, like it couldn't hold all of it in anymore.
Kairos's eyes widened.
"Move!"
He didn't wait to see if the Wolf listened.
He was already diving sideways.
He hit the ground hard, rolled across broken stone, and tucked his shoulder just as the Guardian's mouth opened.
A heartbeat later, a beam of blue-white light tore through the space he'd just vacated.
BOOM!
The blast punched clean through the far wall.
Stone exploded outward.
Dust and rubble rained from above, filling the chamber with a thick grey haze. Somewhere overhead, more of the ancient dome groaned.
A deep, grinding sound rolled through the shrine.
Kairos looked up.
"Great."
A chunk of stone fell past his head.
"Because apparently the building wasn't unstable enough."
