Chapter 36 - Obviously Not

Yejun shook his head before answering Nari. "No, I haven't gone up there. Obviously not." His voice didn't shake, but he didn't look her in the eye either. "Hm, you sure?" Yejun nodded. "Whatever… I won't push it." That was the end of it. "Alright then, I'll get going. See you around, Nari." She nodded and smiled back. Yejun went straight to his room. Doyun wasn't there thankfully. He'd stayed back at the library, said he needed to find some book for Charms. Yejun didn't ask questions. He kicked off his shoes and crashed into bed. The next morning was painfully slow. Yejun didn't feel like talking to anyone. He stayed holed up in his room all weekend, mostly drawing, reading, and… well, studying, okay, not really. But still. The vibes were quiet. He even fell asleep earlier than usual.

When Monday rolled around, Yejun woke up feeling weirdly refreshed. For once, he was in a decent mood. And what made it even better? First period was History of Magic with Mr. Rinh.

Yejun rushed to class, actually managed to grab breakfast on the way, and best of all—no run-ins with Doyun. Amazing. He slid into the room a little early. A few students were already scattered around, chatting or slumped over their desks. Just as he started to relax, of course, Doyun walked in. Class wasn't too bad, though. Doyun, for once, didn't say a word to him, which made the whole thing borderline peaceful.

Once it ended, Yejun waited for everyone to leave before walking up to Mr. Rinh's desk.

"Mr. Rinh… I have a question."

The professor looked up with a calm smile. "Of course. Ask away."

Yejun took a breath. "I'm not sure if you can answer this, but… we've been learning about dark magic. I'm assuming you've heard of someone called 'Master'?"

Mr. Rinh's expression changed instantly. His eyes widened. For a second, something twisted in his face—shock? Fear? Anger? "Well… do you know anything about him—?" Suddenly, Mr. Rinh stood up and slammed a stack of papers on his desk. "No, Yejun. I don't." What the hell? That was a lie. "But Mr. Rinh—someone literally got murdered a few days ago!" Mr. Rinh wasn't listening anymore. He was already walking out of the classroom.

Yejun stood there for a moment, stunned. Then he turned and left.

Outside, he almost ran into Kort.

"Yo, Kort!"

But as soon as Kort saw him, he ducked into a nearby hallway without a word.

Seriously? Not even a hello? Whatever. Yejun spent his free period in the library reading the novel Nari had recommended. The time flew by quicker than expected, and before he knew it, it was lunch. Lunch was boring. Well, kind of. Owen was trying to blow up a grape, yes, a grape. Unsuccessfully, obviously. The rest of the day dragged on. Nothing exciting. Just classes, books, and yawns. By dinner, Yejun had already made up his mind—he was ditching detention again. And of course, so was Doyun. It was getting suspicious at this point, like he had a sixth sense for Yejun's every move.

At dinner, Owen was still trying to explode the same damn grape. "Dude, just let it go," Rae groaned, scooting further down the table. "No, no—this time it's actually working—" "Actually working, my ass," Hana muttered, snatching the grape from his hand and chucking it across the room. "Hana!! Come on?" She didn't answer. By the time dinner ended, Yejun was done. He walked straight back to his dorm, collapsed onto his bed, and passed out before his thoughts could even start bothering him.
