Chapter 22 - Welcome to Valhalla

So, here we are. I had a bit of a Crisis (pun intended) after realising that I took the New 52 Justice League origin story, instead of an earlier one. So we have a bit of a 'problem' if you will. I have decided to ignore continuity and strict canon and just go with it. Things aren't how they were in the comics, since this is a fanfiction.

Some time has passed since Hal interfered with life and death and brought back Kyle's girlfriend, Alex. After he did that, Kyle was so overjoyed that he wouldn't stop thanking Hal and saw him as something more than what he was. In truth, Hal didn't want to be seen as anything more than a human with the power to use his will to accomplish good things, but that didn't seem to be an option anymore. And it wasn't just Kyle either.

Diana and Barda didn't seem that surprised by what Hal had achieved. It was as if he was always more in their eyes, and they trusted him fully. Why they felt that way was lost on Hal, no matter how strong he was. After Diana and Barda had their fill of pummeling Major Force, Hal then took it upon himself to finish the man.

What gave Major Force his powers was his connection to the Quantum Field. The Quantum Field was the limitless void of all matter and energy that is located in the space between matter and energy in the universe. The field acts as the underlying essence of all matter and energy in the cosmos and is the source of power for all Quantum-powered beings. The existence of this field acts according to Quantum Theory, as it does and does not exist, meaning it does not exist until a quantum being wills it to do so.

Normally, it wasn't possible to access the Quantum Field without Dilusteel armour, but Hal was a special case. Through sheer willpower, he could already affect reality to ridiculous degrees, so this wasn't anything special. All it was was information and to study the laws of the Omniverse. Because the more he knew, the more he could weaponise and utilise his powers effectively to achieve any result he wanted.

Captain Atom, who is more powerful than Major Force, is also tied into the Quantum Field, which enables him to absorb and manipulate infinite amounts of energy; energy which can be used for an infinite number of purposes, which are solely limited by his willpower and imagination. Reinforcing the fact that when he realised that the Quantum field is under his complete and total control, he could do things like creating and destroying a replica of Earth, complete with life and its most powerful heroes, out of nothing, such as Superman, The Flash, Firestorm and even his own Spectre. He didn't do that anymore, and limited himself, but that showed how much power he theoretically had access to.

Since then, Hal has delved into the Quantum Field itself, travelling there in person and has started to utilise it. He would now channel the limitless energy and use it to do whatever he needed. And he already found a way to use it.

After dealing with Major Force and his business, Hal has come to the conclusion that he would like to create his own Lantern Corps. At this stage, it was impossible to do so, since no one was truly fit to use more than one emotion at the same time, at least not yet. And no one would ever be able to wield the power of will, like Hal did, except perhaps Kyle, but not truly. So, Hal went ahead and found a dimension which might work as a base of operations for his future Lantern Corps, the Gem World.

However, that would take time, so he got to it.

- In Metropolis -

"Kal, please... don't be angry with us. It was indulgent, I know, but the look on your face--"

"I'm not angry, Diana, it's just a prerequisite to maintaining a 'secret identity' is not having Amazonian Princesses and New Gods fly up to your balcony--"

"But you called me," Diana said.

"Yes, I know, but--"

"And I checked, no one saw us."

"Well, of course not, I know you better than that, but why is Barda here?"

"I'm here because Hal's got that 'worldbuilding' or whatever going on," Big Barda said.

"We got you in trouble, didn't we?" Diana asked.

There had been rumours going around Metropolis that Wonder Woman and Superman were an item, despite Clark Kent being married to Lois Lane and Wonder Woman not really spending that much time with Superman at all. But the people saw what they wanted to see.

"Wha--? No. Trouble? What do you mean, trouble?" Clark asked.

"Oh, come on, Kal. Lois. I may be an Amazon and Barda from Akropolis, but we both understand a thing or two about mortal women," Diana said.

"Besides, we spend a lot of time with Hal. He explains the life of mortals to us and all the other things we should know," Barda added.

Barda was a bit bored and very annoyed. There wasn't really anything for her to do when Hal wasn't here, whom she viewed as the only man worth spending time with. And although Hal claimed, she didn't believe him to be mortal for a second. She was a warrior and knew the strength of others. The way he handled Apokolips, the Furies, Steppenwolf and even Darkseid... that was not something a mortal could do. So, Wonder Woman had told her about this mission and that it may interest her. Diana felt the same way as Barda.

"Well... you don't know Lois... she doesn't get jealous..." Clark said. "She knows how I feel."

"Anything you say, Mr. Lane."

They make it to the Wonderdome, where they move on to other discussions.

"This is very serious, Kal. The son of Mongul... an 'Alien World Devourer'. Do you believe his story?" Diana asked as they walked through the building.

"I trust Mongul Junior about as much as I would his father, Diana, but there was something in his eyes... something that looked a lot like fear."

"What are you talking about?" Barda asked.

"It's a long story. Mongul, Mongul Junior's father, seems to have an unhealthy obsession with me, and when he appeared last time, he told me about an Alien who devoured worlds," Clark said.

"Sounds exciting. When are we going?" Barda asked.

"We're not going. So what will you do?" Diana asked.

"I'm going with him into deep space to face whatever's out there. When I do... more so than anyone else in the League... you, Diana, are Earth's next line of defence. I wanted to let you know so you could prepare. Just in case," Clark said.

"I'm flattered but--"

"Now, that's just insulting, blue man," Barda said and crossed her arms.

"I wasn't trying to be hurtful, Big Barda, it's just--"

"What? Because I was born on Apokolips and tortured to kill, I'm not trustworthy? Hal brought me here and seems to trust me. He taught me what I need to know to live among these weak mortals. I help him where I can and haven't killed yet... And yet here you are, talking like I'm not here, or that Hal's not around either. And I find that makes me angry."

Barda didn't look happy right now. She was thankful to Hal for not killing her when he had the chance and instead saved her and brought her to Earth. He employed her at his company and taught her what it meant to be 'human', at least to some degree. The irony was that most heroes in the Justice League were 'trying' to act or be human, while they were more than that.

"Calm down, Barda. Kal didn't mean it like that. Right, Kal?" Diana said and looked at Superman.

In truth, Kal did mean it like that. At least partially. Why he felt strange about Hal wasn't clear to him 100%, but it was something about the power Hal wielded that unnerved him. And more than that, how his power affected those around him and how he used it. When he found out that Hal had destroyed Apokolips, or the planet at least, he was unnerved and worried about the destructive tendency of Hal. And he still hadn't gotten over that.

*Sigh*

"Have you told Lois?" Diana asked.

"Lois? Told her what?"

"Told her about the quest. You're not asking me to watch the Earth as a formality... part of you doesn't expect to come back."

"I haven't told her, no. I can't make her worry every time I think there's going to be trouble."

"So you didn't tell Lois, your wife, the love of your life... but you told me?" Diana asked.

"Well, yes, but... It's different with you, I feel--"

"Feels like Steppenwolf's Shit to me," Barda remarks.

"..."

"..."

"What? Did I not say that right?"

"I'm not sure," Diana said.

"Well--"

*KRAKOOM*

"Is something supposed to make that sound?" Clark asked.

"No, that's not the Wonderdome... I think we're under attack!" Diana said.

"YES! Final--"

A monstrous lightning descended from the sky and hit the three, encasing them and teleporting them away from their dimension.

.

"KAAAAHHH... Wh-What was that...?" Clark asked. "I f-feel like I was twisted inside out.. A little like teleportation, but--- are you two alright?"

"Fine. I barely felt-- By Hera! I know this place... it's--"

"Hahaha"

Barda laughed and shot forward, attacking a monstrous winged creature that was just attacking them. She swung her Mega Rod, yes, that's the name, through the air and bisected the monster, killing it. Barda uses the Mega-Rod as a hand-to-hand weapon, to fire energy blasts and as a means of transportation. The Mega-Rod is capable of projecting a wide-arcing blast of concussive force powerful enough to tear through the hull of a heavily armoured ship. The functional components of the Mega-Rod utilise the same technology used in the construction of Apokoliptian Boom Tubes, something no one except one is aware of yet.

"Filthy cretin! You think you can take on Big Barda?!"

Wonder Woman and Barda went nuts on the two other creatures who approached, while Superman watched from behind.

"Whoa."

"Aye... 'Whoa' indeed. 'Tis a rare gladness to see an Amazon and a New God doing what they do best. Thy Mistresses will prove a valorous ally... My, how I envy you."

A new, strong, and old voice was heard through the smoke and fog.

"Mistresses? Mistresses can't be good."

"Fret not, noble Varlet! Your faithful service to thy matron is about to reap great reward!"

Clark turned around and saw a large, bulky man with a full red beard in front of him. In the distance, large castles and buildings were on fire, men fought against those same flying monsters, and destruction was visible all around.

"For no mere mortal has ever seen my father's house... or been granted the privilege of waging glorious war within her walls-- Alongside THOR, Asgard's favourite son!! I big thee welcome... to Valhalla!"

"Valhalla?!"

"Huh, I didn't think I'd meet other New Gods this way," Barda said. "Well met, Thor Odinson."

"Well met, Big Barda of Apokolips."

"No longer Apokolips. Earth is my home now," she proudly declared.

"What are those things?" Clark asked.

"The broken husks would have been called a Vrgismyth, were it still breathing. A denizen from the deepest circles of Hades. Wickidness incarnate," Diana said.

"Were still breathing? Diana, you killed it?" Clark asked.

"Of course we did, you boy scout... that's the title Hal used, wasn't it?" Barda said.

Clark narrowed his eyes.

"What were we supposed to do to it?"

"What's with that armour?" Clark asked.

Both Wonder Woman and Big Barda were wearing cyan armour, which glowed with power. Both of them had small smiles on their faces.

"It's something Hal gave us," Diana said, revealing a cyan ring on her finger.

"He gave us these rings and told us that they would respond to different scenarios of danger and battle," Barda said.

"He gave both of you rings?"

"Yes, why?" "Yes, why?"

"..."
