"This is LASCU business, Wonder Woman. Back off!" the officer declares and doesn't back off.
"You're quite arrogant for such a weak little man," Barda says, towering over him.
"Are you going to start a fight here? With a government agency? You would get into an unimaginable amount of trouble," the officer says.
"This problem can easily be resolved," Wonder Woman says and takes out her Lasso of Truth.
He throws it around Major Force's neck and pulls him towards her, making him fall to the ground.
"What happened here? The lasso commands you to tell the truth."
"I... urgh... I killed her... his girl." Major Force says.
"Why?"
"To get to... him," Major Force points at Kyle.
"And who ordered this?"
"My superior."
"And who is that?"
"General... urghh... General Wade Eiling."
...
"Nevertheless, we have to take him in. Now that he has admitted to the crime, he will be sentenced-"
"No. He killed her! He will pay for this," Kyle protests.
"Listen, son. No matter who you think you are, you aren't allowed to sentence him. That duty belongs to the US state."
For the first time, Hal steps in.
"What my friend here wishes to say, officer, is this. He is a Green Lantern, part of a Universal Corps responsible for maintaining order throughout the universe. He is essentially a law enforcement officer for a large part of the galaxy, and as such, he has the authority to sentence individuals. If the government doesn't punish murderers and rapists, but enhances them, then it has lost all credibility."
"And who decided that? Do you think you can just ignore the laws of the country you live in?"
"I decided that. I decided to help out whenever I can. The question is, what could you do if we were like Sgt. Clifford Zmeck over here? Please, my friend, I believe it won't be necessary for you to take him in, right?" Hal asks.
Hal's light permeates the surroundings, and the officers grow wary. They agree with Hal's words and don't think they should lock up Major Force, as he would simply be freed by the General later on and continue as he did.
"I don't know, we-"
"Here, officer. This is a list of crimes, Sgt. Clifford committed. Maybe this will make it easier for you," Hal says and creates a list for the man to look at.
"..."
"..."
"We're leaving. Pack it up, people. False alarm."
The L.A. Special Crimes Unit takes all of their things and simply leaves. They don't take Major Force with them. They didn't see 'anything'.
"Now, back to the matter at hand."
"What shall we do with him, Hal?" Wonder Woman asks.
"We should torture him until he cries blood and calls for his mommy," Barda suggests.
"..."
"Kyle, why don't you take Major Force here and Barda and move to higher grounds. I'll be right with you, after taking care of things here," Hal says.
"Alright."
Kyle creates a platform for Barda and binds Major Force. Then he flies into the sky, leaving the watchful eyes of civilians and other hidden figures. Wonder Woman looks at Hal for a moment, as if she knows something and then nods. She follows Kyle into space. Seeing them leave, Hal activates his power and starts to fix all of the damage done during the fight between Kyle and Major Force. The ground fills up with his willpower, evening it out and then turning into dirt and grass. The broken trees and gardens are fixed, and the plants are given energy. He moves to the buildings and uses all the smallest pieces of rubble and dust to reform them as they were before.
And then, he walks into the apartment of Alexandra. He sees her still inside the refrigerator, with the look of horror and regret on her face. The path forward is clear to Hal, and so he gets to work. He begins to take control of everything inside the apartment and make changes. His control over the constructs has arrived at such a degree that he can use his own willpower to affect atoms. And by manipulating the weak and strong forces, he can rearrange them, altering atomic structures and creating new materials in a sense. He could also force his will upon things, but he tries to use every chance he gets to train and push himself to new heights.
The apartment changes and becomes something new and modern. After he is finished, he works on the refrigerator, completely overhauling it and transforming the scrap into something better, something that won't remind them of what happened. And then, he focuses on Alex. Hal closes his eyes and creates a dome around him and Alex, separating them from the outside and creating an entirely different dimension, to prevent the incoming energies from damaging what he has just repaired. And then he focuses on Alex.
His cyan energy covers her and permeates her entire body. All of her cells are being drowned in the energy as he prepares for the next step. Finally, Hal opens his eyes.
The cyan energy turns black as Alex opens her eyes as well and stands up from the ground. This isn't Hal who is doing this, but Alex herself. Although saying that is not correct. The black light affects Alex and effectively resurrects her. But not truly, in the way that one would think or like. Hal isn't finished yet. He feels the massive power the black light holds. He didn't want to use the colour black, he is a master of will and hope, but black is not part of the Emotional Spectrum. So what he is doing is mimicking the effect that black has... but this... is impossible.
Hal feels the strain of doing what he is doing, and the monstrously powerful will belonging to the colour black, which pushes back against his control. And yet, it is no use. There is nothing quite as limitless as Hal's willpower, and so he pushes through, getting to the next stage of his plan. He completes the final part of getting Alex back by focusing on her soul. The colour black fades and turns pure white. This colour is part of the Emotional Spectrum; in fact, it is the entirety of it. The White Light of Life and Creation is where the Emotional Spectrum originated.
In the beginning, the universe was absolute darkness. At an unspecified point in history, the white light was introduced by an entity or entities unknown, and for 700 years, the universe was nothing but a blinding white light. The darkness, however, fought back against the light, eventually dividing it into the seven colours of the spectrum that exist today. Those who wield the white light can resurrect the dead, teleport, and create constructs that can potentially last longer than those cast by other lights. The white energy comes from all living things, and all living things from it.
Hal suddenly feels another powerful will, which is not his own, trying to influence him and make him its servant. But not maliciously, like it was before with the black light, more impartially, in a way. Once again, Hal pushes back; he refuses to be subdued in any shape or form and transmits his thoughts to this being - this entity. He feels that this time, the entity is far closer than the one connected to the colour black. As if... he were standing right on top of it.
*FFYYYOOOOSSHHHH*
The connection pulls Hal's mind towards the place where he feels the connection originates, but he stops it from happening. So the connection widens and the two ends meet. Hal stands before the Entity, made of pure white light.
{Harold Jordan of Earth}
{Destiny awaits}
A boundless amount of white light starts to cover Hal, and the energy enters his body, filling him with the power of the White Light Entity. But it also does something else.
"I refuse."
The Entity tries to subdue Hal's will to its own, but that's just not possible. Not only does Hal have limitless willpower, but he is also immune to both soul and mind manipulations. He is completely immune to soul attacks, manipulation, destruction and nothing can ever affect his mind or control him in any way.
{...}
"When the time comes, I shall await your call. But I control my own destiny."
*BRRROOOOMMM*
With willpower that surpasses all reason and logic, Hal pushes the Entity out of his head. He gives it back its energy, severing the connection they had just shared and reappearing in Alex's apartment. He sees the woman lying on the ground in front of him, breathing and very much alive. Hal smiles and then disappears, teleporting into space next to Kyle, Diana, and Barda.
"Whoa! How are you doing that, Hal? Seriously, that should be reserved for the Indigo Lantern Corps," Kyle says.
"And who decided that it's impossible to do it? The Guardians?" Hal asks.
"Huh, you're right, I thought it was that way, since the colour... and all that."
"Kyle, I was just down in the apartment, and I think you should have a look. Someone would like to talk to you," Hal says.
"Who?" Kyle asks in great pain.
"You have to see for yourself."
"Alright, but what about him?" Kyle asks, pointing at Major Force.
"I'll take care of him. Don't worry about it."
"Alright, I'll be right back."
Kyle says and flies back down. Wonder Woman and Big Barda look as he flies back down. Diana then looks at Hal with a strange look. One that you would have when you think about something that happened.
"He won't be coming back, will he?" she asks.
"Not any time soon," Hal says.
"Huh? What are you talking about?" Barda asks. "Hey, Hal did you... change?"
"What do you mean change?"
"You look... brighter. Like you were a lamp before, but now you're a bigger lamp. More glow in a way."
"More glow?"
"Barda's right. Your light has intensified... as has the feeling," Wonder Woman says.
"Indeed. Very calming. Mmmmmmm..."
"Anyway, back to the matter at hand. Major Force," Hal says.
"What are you going to do with him?" Wonder Woman asks.
"Prison, right? That's where you bring villains on Earth."
"No. The Government would have him out again, and that would lead to nothing. Clifford Zmeck here has killed for the last time," Hal declares.
"Heh, you think you can kill me? I'll just return. It already happened before, and an upstart like you won't change anything," Major Force speaks for the first time.
And that's not entirely false. His connection to the Quantum Field has made him immortal. No matter how many times he's mortally incapacitated, he will always reintegrate thanks to his connection. Should he die, he will simply revive himself, and what's more, each resurrection actually makes him come back stronger.
"Ah? Is that so? Well, why don't we see whether that's true?" Barda says. "How about it, Diana? A fight to see who could finally kill this piece of waste."
"Hmm, I agree. Let us test who will manage to vanquish this one," Diana agrees and takes her sword in her hand.
Both women are ready for the fight and grin, while Hal looks at them.
"Very well, allow me."
Hal creates a fighting arena all the way in space and frees Major Force to make it somewhat enjoyable for the two women. The misogynistic Major Force grins and doesn't think much of them. At least up to the moment when Big Barda's fist smashes into his face. Darkseid himself calls Barda the most powerful woman he has ever met, and it shows.
Hal watches the two women go nuts on the rapist and murderer and creates himself a comfortable chair to enjoy the show.
