Chapter 17 - School Life at USKY

Chapter 2: School Life at USKY

Plot: An analysis of the educational system of the young subjects of the Kingdom.

XXX National Education XXX

The Royal Family recognizes education as a fundamental pillar of society; therefore, it has established an effective, comprehensive, and compulsory education system. Schooling begins at age 5 and ends at age 22, the legal age at which children reach adulthood.

School is free and compulsory, and attendance is strictly monitored: unexcused absenteeism leads to security intervention. The consequences range from assisted resolution of any family issues to severe fines, up to a year in minimum-security facilities for parents in the most serious cases.

XXX Student Support XXX

The State provides all necessary resources free of charge:

- Logistics: Transport guaranteed from city collection points.

- Sustenance: Three meals a day at the canteen (with take-away option).

- Health: A comprehensive medical consultation on an annual basis.

- Supplies: Uniforms, backpacks, and stationery. Course materials are distributed in digital or paper format, with a standard storage slot assigned to each student for the entire academic year.

XXX Incentive System: The XXX Merit Credit

To encourage the student body to constantly improve, USKY adopts a Merit Credit system. Unlike disciplinary sanctions, these points can only be earned and never deducted, serving as pure positive reinforcement.

Credit Acquisition

Points are awarded based on three main criteria:

- Academic Excellence: High scores on tests and research projects.

- Civic Conduct: Exemplary behavior during class hours.

- Community Spirit: Collaboration and support towards classmates during extracurricular hours and social moments.

XXX The Academic Emporium XXX

Each Academy hosts a specialized shop where students can exchange their accumulated credits for goods of equivalent value. The catalog is deeply influenced by local culture and the spirit of the Kingdom, including:

- Advanced Teaching Materials: Rare texts, valuable notebooks, or enhanced data storage tools.

- Personalization: Uniforms with distinctive decorations or approved variations to stand out from the crowd.

- Leisure and Wellness: Deluxe Treats, high-end sports equipment, musical instruments and art kits.

- Collectibles: Scale models of the space fleet (Astra Navis) or soft toys depicting indigenous creatures, aimed at strengthening cultural identity and a sense of belonging.

XXX L'Accademia Base XXX

Each city in USKY is home to a Basic Academy, an imposing architectural complex dedicated to primary education (ages 5 to 10). Here, fundamental notions are taught and complex subjects such as Magic, Science, Magitech, and Technomagic are introduced.

The curriculum also includes the study of the history of the USKY and the Royal Family, the analysis of the races of the Realm, the planetary and spatial hierarchy, as well as the roles of the Astra Navis, the Astra Militarum and the Rogue Traders.

In addition to theoretical study, children are trained in interpersonal collaboration to achieve common goals, face obstacle courses for physical development, and learn survival and crisis management protocols.

XXX L'Accademia Media XXX

The Middle School is not just a building, but a fully-fledged self-managed school district. Responsibility for its operation falls directly to the local Vice-Administrative Director, making educational efficiency a key parameter of a province's political success.

Structure and Training (10-15 years)

Education becomes more rigorous and introduces a compulsory war component.

- Two-year Initiation Period (10-12 years): The day is divided equally between academic subjects and basic military training (disassembly and use of small caliber firearms and bladed weapons).

- Orientation Year (13 years): General training is replaced by Compatibility Tests. Students are exposed to every branch of the military, science, and magic to determine their natural fit.

XXX The Club System and Planetary Competitions XXX

Membership in a minimum of one (and a maximum of three) clubs is mandatory. This system fuels a competitive ladder that begins with city challenges, progresses through the Administrative Areas, and culminates in the Planetary Championship. Champions who reach the highest rank in these competitions attract the attention of the Grand Leagues, Guilds, or Corporations, as potential investments or gems to polish and collect.

XXX Specialization and Evaluation System XXX

At the end of their third year, students take the Selection Exam. Based on their results, they will spend their last two years (14-15) divided between their historical class and the Specialization Courses (Fencing, Sniping, Elemental Magic, Psyker Powers, Mecha Engineering, Dangerous Beast Cavalry, etc.).

At the end of the fifth year, they will take a Classical Exam based on the Specialization Courses.

Performance is measured on a rigorous hierarchical scale: AA S SS SSS EX (Out of Scale)

XXX The Transition to the Specialized Academies XXX

The grade obtained in the Classical Exam determines access to the prestigious Specialist Academies (duration: 6 years).

Hybrid Academies: For outstanding students who demonstrate multiple talents, there are elite paths that blend the disciplines. One example is the Fire Swordsmen Academy, where only those with excellent marks in both Fencing and Fire Magic are admitted. These institutions are the toughest in the Kingdom, but they produce the most powerful and respected individuals in the USKY.

XXX The Specialized Academies XXX

The transition to the Specialist Academies (ages 16-22) represents the most critical moment in the life of a USKY subject. For noble lineages, choosing an institution is a political act: many families invest in private tutors and summer camps from a child's infancy to ensure access to the highest ranks. The ultimate goal is not only education, but direct contact with the Royal Family, whose members attend exclusively academies of AA rank or higher.

Classification of Academies by Rank:

1) Common Rank (Rating E - D): Located in every major planetary metropolis, they form the Kingdom's standard workforce and citizens.

2) Uncommon Rank (Rating C - B): Usually located in districts under the jurisdiction of the Administrative Viceroys. They offer superior technical specialization and allow mobility between different areas of the planet.

3) Rare Rank (A Rating): Located in planetary capitals, they enjoy the direct patronage of the Governors and Great Houses. Future leaders and high-level officials are trained here.

4) Epic Rank (A-AAA Rating): Elite facilities located on orbiting space stations, the Seven Fortress Worlds, or the Home Worlds of the Twelve Races. Admission guarantees immediate relocation of the student's entire family to highly prestigious residential settings.

5) Legendary Rank (S-Rating and above): Students who reach this level are invited to Ysatnaf, the ancestral world, for a private interview with the King, a Princess, or a High Crown Dignitary.

The Supreme Institutions:

- Black Royal Academy: Founded by the First King at the age of 32, it is the most prestigious and oldest school in USKY. It accepts only applicants with a minimum AA rank who pass the kingdom's most brutal entrance exam. In ancient times, the First King himself taught select classes of thirteen students, almost always girls.

- Blue Raven Academy: Founded by Third Aria B. Kannazuki on planet Ivy-7, it is the benchmark for magical excellence.

XXX Royal Sponsorship and Elite Recruitment XXX

Royal Princesses exert a far-reaching influence on the educational system through Direct Patronage. It is not uncommon for a Princess to establish her own academy or sponsor a specific institution with the aim of selecting the most promising talents for her private organizations, be it:

- Personal Guards and Private Fleets: Elite forces charged with the defense and expansion of the Princess's domains.

- Sector Organizations: Research Guilds, Merchant Corporations, Mystical Cabals, or Knightly Orders under his direct leadership.

XXX The Dynastic Rise XXX

The bond between academic excellence and royal lineage can culminate in a dynastic union. While in the past, the most brilliant graduates could aspire to the rank of Consort to the Princess Royal, the tradition has evolved over the past few centuries.

Today, excellence in a high-ranking Academy more frequently leads to the possibility of an engagement to a Princess's daughter or granddaughter. This practice allows the Royal Family to absorb the best geniuses and talents in the Kingdom, while maintaining a solid generational hierarchy and providing new life to secondary bloodlines.

XXX The Diploma and the Post-Academy XXX

Graduating from a Specialized Academy is a crucial event that determines the young adult's immediate fate, influenced by the state of stability of the Kingdom:

- In times of war: Graduates are automatically enlisted and assigned to the relevant war sectors (Astra Militarum, Astra Navis or technical departments) to serve immediately at the front or in the support lines.

- In Peacetime: The graduate has greater freedom. He or she can choose to enlist in the PDF (Planet Defense Force) for a five-year term, a safe and honorable path, or seek employment in the numerous Guilds, Corporations, Congregations, or Orders. The most ambitious talents can even found their own independent organizations.

XXX Private Higher Education Institutions: Temples and Colleges XXX

The State considers its educational duty complete after 11 years of free schooling. For those wishing to further hone their skills, there are private institutions not sponsored by the Crown:

- The Temples: Places of ascetic and martial discipline inspired by ancient traditions. Dedicated to those seeking pure strength, they study ancestral combat techniques, profound philosophies, and spiritual perfection.

- Colleges: Traditional centers of higher learning. They focus on learning specific trades, advanced technical skills, and new practical skills required by the galactic market.

Because the USKY is populated by species that can live for several centuries, it is common for an individual to attend multiple Colleges or Temples over the course of a lifetime. While some prefer variety, others dedicate themselves to a single discipline for centuries, rising to the rank of world-class experts.

XXX Example of High School Career: Kallen K. Scarlet XXX

Kallen K. Scarlet was born in 522 ARB on the Planet Fabrica (Sunrise), in the Middle Circle, within the Administrative Sector of the Great Noble Family Ifrit.

Kallen is the second daughter of the Administrative Viceroy of Area 11, a mid-ranking noble, but is an illegitimate child with a maid.

He attended Taniguchi Base Academy and Ōkouchi Middle Academy, both located near the Main City of Area 11.

During his years at the Middle School, he attended three clubs simultaneously for three years in a row:

- Chariot Race Sports Club: A very popular sport involving relay races on obstacle-filled tracks 300 meters above the ground, aboard flying vehicles. In their first year, their team won the Area 11 competition, but lost in the planetary quarterfinals. In their second year, they reached the finals, drawing against a team of seniors. In their third year, they finally won the Planetary competition.

- Duel Club: Achieved three victories in Area 11 competitions and reached three planetary finals, narrowly losing the first and winning the next two in a row.

- Club Mecha: a group for robotics enthusiasts, pilots, and designers. Competitions vary annually:

- 1 year: High-speed drone piloting (Victory Area 11, 1 Planetary Post).

- Year 2: Human-Sized Robot Battles (Victory Area 11, 1 Planetary Spot).

- Year 3: Skimmer races, flying motorcycles capable of transforming between ground and air modes (Victory Area 11, 1 Planetary Place).

- Year 4: High-speed races in customized Redline-type vehicles (Victory Area 11, 1 Planetary Place).

- 5th year: Combat tournament on old training mecha of the Titanic College of the Mechanicus (Victory Area 11, tie in the Planetary final).

In her third year, during the Selection Exam, Kallen was admitted to three specialization courses: Fire Magic, Swordmaster, and War Piloting.

In the fifth year, at the Classification Exam, he obtained the following marks:

- Fire Magic: A

- Swordmaster: B

- War Piloting: SS

XXX The Meeting and the Post-Academic Career XXX

In 537 ARB, at the age of 15, Kallen K. Scarlet and her mother traveled to Tokodra, the former Capital of the Kingdom. At the old royal palace, they met Amelia Blight, a legendary figure of USKY: concubine of the First King, Supreme Leader of the Mechanicus, and Mother of AI, Power Armor, and Mecha.

She is also famous for being the mother of five Princesses and the only EX-Class Mecha Pilot. Amelia recognized Kallen's potential.

In 543 ARB, at the age of 21, Kallen graduated from the Mechanatrix Academy. This elite institute specializes in advanced Magitech training, the use of Power Armor, and the piloting of high-performance Starships and Mecha.

Soon after graduation, Blight Galaxy Industrials offered her official sponsorship for professional Mecha Race and Mecha Battle competitions, where Kallen quickly became a prominent figure in the world of sports entertainment.

However, in 545 ARB (at the age of 23), Kallen decided to abandon her athletic career to join the Collegia Titanica. She actively participated in the Hundred Day War waged by the Second King against the invaders from the South, distinguishing herself on the battlefield.

In 546 ARB, at the age of 24, she received a personal invitation from Amelia Blight to join the Voidwalker Fleet. Kallen accepted without hesitation, becoming part of one of the most exclusive and technologically advanced corps in the Kingdom.
