Chapter 141 - Chapter 141: Poison

Xu Hao waited outside for a few minutes when the sound of a door opening reached his ears.

He quickly leaned out to look, and saw Zhang Yi walking towards him with a silver briefcase in hand.

Xu Hao's eyes immediately fixed on the briefcase. It looked mysterious, and he couldn't help but wonder what was inside.

Zhang Yi approached him and, in a calm tone, asked, "Do you know what I used to do before?"

Xu Hao was taken aback, then shook his head.

In the past, he had been a rich second-generation heir, and Zhang Yi had just been an ordinary young man in the neighborhood.

He had never bothered to find out who Zhang Yi really was.

Zhang Yi continued, "In the beginning, I was a fighter."

"In 2041, I won the championship in my first free-fighting match in Southeast Asia."

"In 2042, I defeated the Sakura Heavy Artillery, Lei Long, and then spent the next three years dominating the best Karate masters of Sakura Country."

"Later, I joined the French mercenaries, and spent years fighting in the Middle East. People gave me the nickname—Half Fox!"

"Tired of the killing and fighting in the underworld, I returned to the country. Now, my job is a simple assassin and warehouse manager."

Xu Hao's scalp tingled as he listened. He had never imagined that the man in front of him, besides being handsome, had so many hidden identities!

In his heart, Xu Hao thought: No wonder, no wonder his shooting skills are so impressive, and he never hesitates when it comes to killing!

I knew it—either he was a retired urban warrior or a professional assassin.

Sure enough, it's true!

This is a real big shot. If I can team up with him in this apocalypse, I will definitely survive!

While speaking, Zhang Yi opened the silver briefcase.

"When I was a mercenary, I often had to deal with prisoners that were hard to handle. So, we had special methods for dealing with those who were stubborn or had ill intentions."

He spoke as he stared at Xu Hao.

Xu Hao's body tensed up in fear.

Zhang Yi opened the briefcase and pulled out a syringe filled with a blue liquid.

The deep blue color immediately reminded Xu Hao of poison!

He had seen scenes like this in movies more than once.

The fear inside him made Xu Hao instinctively step back. "Zhang Ge, Zhang Ge, what are you doing?"

Zhang Yi smiled faintly, holding the syringe as he walked toward him.

"This is a type of slow-acting poison we commonly use. After injection, it takes a week to take effect. If there's no antidote, it's fatal!"

"If you want me to trust you, let me inject you with this. Don't worry, once we take down Wang Siming's shelter, I will give you the antidote."

Xu Hao's eyes widened in shock. "What? It's really poison!"

"No, don't come any closer!"

Zhang Yi seemed too lazy to argue. "It's not up to you anymore! At this point, you'll take it whether you want to or not!"

With that, he pressed Xu Hao against the wall and quickly pulled down his pants. He inserted the needle into Xu Hao's buttocks slowly but firmly.

Xu Hao cried in humiliation, tears rolling down his face.

Zhang Yi quickly finished, put the syringe back, and smiled as he said, "From now on, you're mine."

Xu Hao shakily pulled up his pants. Suddenly, his head began to spin, and he collapsed to the ground.

"Ugh… ugh…"

Xu Hao lay on the ground, gagging.

He felt terrible—his head was dizzy, he was gagging, his chest felt tight, and he couldn't even breathe properly.

This only confirmed what he feared—he had been poisoned!

Zhang Yi spoke indifferently, "No need to panic. This poison is slow-acting. I'm just making sure we don't distrust each other."

"That way, if you betray me, you won't live to see it either!"

"And once I have that shelter, I won't need to kill you. Instead, I'll provide you with plenty of food and a comfortable environment to live in."

Xu Hao continued to gag, but deep down, he understood that Zhang Yi had earned his trust.

"I understand. I'll contact Wang Siming once I go back, and we'll go over there as soon as possible!"

Zhang Yi nodded. "Good. Go back for now. I'll give you further instructions soon."

Xu Hao was panting heavily as he struggled to climb the stairs back down.

Zhang Yi watched him leave, inwardly sighing in relief.

Agreeing to work with Xu Hao and infiltrate that billion-dollar shelter was a huge challenge for him as well.

In reality, the so-called slow-acting poison didn't even exist.

What Zhang Yi had used was a drug called methylene blue injection, which is used to treat methemoglobinemia.

However, if injected too quickly, it could cause symptoms like dizziness, gagging, and chest tightness, which would resemble poisoning.

This was the only way he could be sure Xu Hao wasn't deceiving him, and it also ensured that Xu Hao wouldn't backstab him in the future.

"First, I'll clean up the problems in the neighborhood, then we'll see about that place."

Zhang Yi had already made his plans in his mind.

He returned home and checked the surveillance footage of the hospital room.

Uncle You had already woken up, and Xie Limei was sitting beside him, softly speaking to him.

Although Zhang Yi couldn't hear their conversation, he knew it was probably nothing good.

He smirked and walked over to open the door.

Upon hearing the door open, Xie Limei immediately stopped talking and pretended to be comforting the baby.

Zhang Yi didn't even glance at her and walked straight to Uncle You.

"Uncle You, you're awake! You really scared me. I'm glad you're okay."

Uncle You's face was still pale, but he managed to force a smile and said to Zhang Yi, "Thank goodness you have a doctor here, or I'd really be a goner."

"I heard you took care of Huang Tianfang and his men? You're really something!"

Zhang Yi smiled, "They were nothing. To me, they were no challenge."

With that, he opened his coat to reveal his bulletproof vest.

"I had a bulletproof vest on. They hid a broken gun and thought it was some secret weapon. It was useless to me!"

Uncle You's eyes widened, his mouth agape, looking embarrassed.

He had risked his life to shield Zhang Yi from bullets, only to realize it was all for nothing.

Zhang Yi chuckled. "It's also my fault for not telling you in advance. Who would've thought they'd suddenly turn violent?"

"But I'm glad you're okay. If something had happened to you, I'd feel terrible."

Uncle You awkwardly replied, "No, I couldn't help much. I'm really grateful you saved me!"

Zhang Yi waved his hand, "Don't be so polite. I'm already moved by your intentions."

Through a few words, Zhang Yi made Uncle You understand that he didn't owe him much; he was just repaying a favor.

It was important to be clear about these things to avoid trouble in the future.
