Chapter 140 - Chapter 140: Three Conditions

Xu Hao's words gave Zhang Yi a glimpse into the world of the ultra-wealthy second generation.

But that wasn't important now.

After satisfying his curiosity, Zhang Yi fixed his gaze on Xu Hao and asked indifferently, "Tell me your plan. If I agree to work with you, how exactly do you intend to help me?"

Xu Hao sensed an opportunity and immediately became energized.

"I'm still in contact with Wang Siming. After I told him about you, he was very interested in the supplies and the snowmobiles you have."

"So, we can stage a setup. I pretend to lure you over, and he'll open the door. When that happens—heh—given your skills, taking him out would be a piece of cake, right?"

Zhang Yi pondered for a moment before questioning him, "If Wang Siming's shelter is truly worth a billion dollars, would he really covet my supplies?"

He had seen enough sci-fi movies to know that such large-scale shelters were typically stocked with supplies meant to last for decades.

It had only been a month since the disaster began. There was no way they were already running low on resources.

Xu Hao scratched his head and smirked.

"But… that shelter was built ten years ago."

"Back then, Wang Siming only built it on a whim. Once his interest faded, he stopped treating it seriously and just used it as a luxury villa."

"As for the stockpiled supplies? He found them annoying and cluttering his space, so he tossed them out like trash, repurposing the rooms into love nests and sports arenas."

Zhang Yi silently listened, mentally constructing a rough blueprint of the so-called super shelter.

"What about weapons and defense systems? A shelter of that scale should have anti-intrusion measures, right?"

This was the part Zhang Yi cared about most.

Even when attacking ordinary apartment units, people set up traps to defend themselves.

A billion-dollar super shelter would obviously be even more secure.

At this moment, Xu Hao suddenly shut his mouth.

Then, he spoke cautiously, "I won't give you that information unless you agree to let me follow you and guarantee my survival."

Xu Hao wasn't stupid. If he revealed everything now, he'd have no bargaining chip left.

"You won't tell me?"

Zhang Yi sneered and subtly waved his gun.

"Then why should I keep you alive?"

Xu Hao swallowed hard and quickly said, "Even if you shoot me, I still won't talk! Because this is my only chance to survive!"

"I know that sooner or later, you're going to kill all of us, right?"

A flicker of surprise flashed across Zhang Yi's eyes.

Xu Hao had guessed correctly.

The scumbags in this building had all taken advantage of him in one way or another.

Once he finished dealing with external threats, he had no reason to keep them around.

Xu Hao would be no exception.

"You're sharper than I expected. How did you figure it out?" Zhang Yi asked with a chilling smile.

But to Xu Hao, that smile felt ice-cold.

Xu Hao clenched his teeth and said grimly, "Because you're not a kind person. You kept us alive only to use us as a shield against the other apartment units."

"Now that most of your threats are eliminated, there's no way you'd keep feeding us for free."

Zhang Yi slowly lowered his gun.

Xu Hao was right. The guy had some brains.

Xu Hao continued, "So instead of waiting to die, I'd rather take a gamble. I'll trade my information for a chance to live."

Zhang Yi narrowed his eyes, observing Xu Hao closely.

He was weighing the risks and rewards.

If what Xu Hao said was true, the billion-dollar super shelter was far superior to his current safe house.

It had a farm, a swimming pool, a gym, and even… a love nest.

If he could seize it, his quality of life would skyrocket.

But the risks were undeniable.

First, he didn't trust Xu Hao. No matter how convincing he sounded, it was impossible to fully believe someone who had no real loyalty.

Before anything else, he needed to ensure Xu Hao wasn't playing him.

Second, even if Xu Hao was telling the truth, attacking the shelter would be highly dangerous.

Zhang Yi's current safe house had helped him fend off dozens of attackers.

And this super shelter? It was fortified to withstand nuclear blasts.

His current weapons wouldn't even scratch its defenses.

Zhang Yi remained silent, while Xu Hao anxiously awaited his decision.

The waiting was sheer torture for Xu Hao.

Because he knew that if Zhang Yi rejected him, he'd die on the spot.

But he had no other options.

If he didn't align himself with Zhang Yi, he'd be dead sooner or later anyway.

After a long silence, Zhang Yi finally made up his mind.

He looked at Xu Hao and said coldly, "I'll let you follow me. But you must agree to three conditions."

Xu Hao's tense body instantly relaxed, his heart filled with joy.

He had won the gamble.

He nodded frantically, "Okay, okay! Say it!"

Zhang Yi stated, "First, you must give me a detailed description of the shelter—especially its security measures and firepower."

Xu Hao immediately agreed, "Of course! When it was first built, Wang Siming loved showing it off. I was one of the people he invited for a tour."

Zhang Yi nodded. "Second, I need you to kill someone for me."

Xu Hao was surprised.

"You? Need me to kill someone? You can't do it yourself?"

Zhang Yi smirked. "It's someone I can't personally deal with. Just wait for my orders."

Xu Hao didn't hesitate. Killing a person in the apocalypse? Nothing special.

And besides, it was a perfect way to prove his loyalty.

"Alright! I'll do it!"

Zhang Yi's smile grew eerily sinister.

"And the third condition…"

Xu Hao suddenly felt uneasy.

He swallowed nervously. "What is it?"

Zhang Yi chuckled. "Come upstairs. I have something to give you."

Xu Hao had no idea what it was, but he obediently followed Zhang Yi to the 24th floor staircase.

"Wait here. Don't move." Zhang Yi said.

Then, he walked into his room, leaving Xu Hao standing alone.
