Chapter 297: Alliance
Ye Wen's posture relaxed, shifting from serious to slightly laid back, which put the Silver Dragon King at ease. "This body is affecting my thoughts more than I expected," she thought, a touch annoyed.
But true to her dragon nature, straightforward and unencumbered by deceit, the Silver Dragon King cut to the chase. "I hope to form an alliance with you, Sea God, to counter the influence of the Divine Realm."
Finally reaching the main topic, Ye Wen's gaze sharpened. Still, the Silver Dragon King seemed rational not consumed with reckless vengeance like the Golden Dragon King, but merely intent on resisting the Divine Realm rather than destroying it.
"Oh? Silver Dragon King, my real body is currently in the Divine Realm. Do you realize how absurd your proposal sounds? I'm being generous just by not reporting you to them," Ye Wen retorted.
She wasn't unsettled in the slightest, her dignified violet eyes meeting his calmly. A moment later, she spoke in a soft but firm voice, "You won't do that. I know you have no desire to submit to the Divine Realm. Otherwise, Douluo Star wouldn't have seen so many powerful cultivators emerge over such a short millennium."
Her words caught Ye Wen off guard. "Aren't soul beasts supposed to be simple and easy to read?" he thought. "Wasn't the Silver Dragon King a simple minded romantic? Why does she suddenly seem so astute, spotting flaws even the Divine Realm's gods have overlooked?"
Suppressing a wry chuckle, Ye Wen regarded her intently. "Interesting," he muttered, his gaze icy. For the first time, the Silver Dragon King felt an instinctual fear toward him, her hands clenching involuntarily, a response from Na'er's body when facing Ye Wen's ire.
"If you want to talk about an alliance, very well," he continued. "But, Silver Dragon King, what can you offer? From what I've heard, aside from Emperor Tian, you have no other deities to command. Has he even managed to regain godhood after all these years? Tell me, what could you possibly offer that would make an alliance with you worthwhile?"
The Silver Dragon King fell silent, realizing she hadn't adequately prepared for the conversation. Ye Wen, unhurried, poured two cups of tea and placed one before her.
She stared at the steaming cup, taken aback. Finally, she sighed, lifting the cup and taking a small sip. Ye Wen thought he sensed a hint of surrender in her demeanor, though he dismissed it. Surely, the Silver Dragon King half of the legendary Dragon God couldn't possess such an attitude.
The sound of her cup setting down brought Ye Wen's attention back. "So," he asked, "have you decided how to earn this alliance?"
The Silver Dragon King shook her head slowly. "As you said, I don't have anything that could tempt you."
Ye Wen straightened, waiting for her to continue.
"Instead of an alliance to fight the Divine Realm, I propose something else," she said. "You're likely aware that true dragons have become rare on Douluo Star. I would like your assistance in restoring the dragon race's numbers."
Ye Wen's surprise was evident. He had intended to negotiate, hoping she would cooperate in a possible future plan. Now, though, she seemed intent on reviving her own forces.
While it was true that genuine dragon soul beasts were exceedingly rare, Ye Wen hadn't expected her to be so focused on them. Based on his knowledge from his past life, hadn't she been distracted by more trivial matters?
Could his influence have altered her motives?
Casting his previous thoughts aside, he looked at her carefully. This Silver Dragon King was no mere romantic; she was rational and direct, even if her words struck him as odd.
"I could help," he said finally. "But what will you give me in return? Don't expect me to allow unchecked extraction of Douluo Star's resources to accelerate the dragons' growth. You should understand how precious faith power is."
The Silver Dragon King's tone remained even. "I don't need my descendants to attain godhood. My purpose is to secure the survival of the dragon species. Compared to the days when the Dragon Clan was abundant, we now have only a few pure blooded dragons left, with most of the rest being hybrid variants. If I don't act now, dragons may vanish entirely from history. For the sake of our race, I must prioritize survival over revenge."
Her calm declaration left Ye Wen in silent astonishment. He hadn't expected her primary concern to be the survival of her people rather than seeking vengeance. The Silver Dragon King he remembered had been a solitary strategist, ultimately led into ruin.
He scratched his head, finally meeting her gaze. "Fine, if helping dragons continue is truly all you want… but what's your price?"
She paused for a moment, her violet eyes solemn. "I will ensure that the dragons remain aligned with humanity, striving to conquer this universe together."
