Chapter 291: Douluo Developments – Part Three
Of course, Ye Wen didn't leave the disbanded soul hunters completely without options; he provided them a new path one within the official structure of the Holy Soul Empire. And why, you ask? Because, after all, "the end of all things is bureaucracy!"
But in all seriousness, Ye Wen firmly believed that an advanced society should not let extraordinary powers run unchecked. Allowing unregulated superhuman abilities was a systemic flaw and irresponsible toward the citizens living under this structure. The previous empires had let commoner spirit masters operate independently primarily to protect noble privileges, unwilling to share their pie of power.
With Ye Wen's policies in place, towns near the spirit beast forests, once notorious for lawlessness, saw a rapid shift toward a more orderly way of life. However, human greed often finds ways to bypass regulations, and the soaring price of spirit beast materials led to a rise in illegal poaching. Ye Wen chose not to intervene in the market; if wealthy elites wanted to waste money on useless trophies, he was more than willing to let that boost the economy.
Meanwhile, Douluo's commoners thrived under the social reforms, and the probability of spirit power appearing among the general population had dramatically increased. As Ye Wen knew the basic jobs he offered wouldn't be enough for these new talents, he launched a new wave of reform that would shape the continent's future.
First came waterway development. Certain regions of Douluo faced severe drought, so Ye Wen initiated a project to redirect water from surplus areas, building canals and modifying the terrain to create a more balanced environment. Although ordinary labor would have struggled with such grand construction, Ye Wen had just the solution a surplus of young spirit masters who could work together as the main workforce. He also designed specialized spirit tools to make the work easier.
Then, he began a second grand project: land reclamation. Compared to Douluo's vast seas, the land area of the continent was relatively small. While the population strain wasn't yet obvious, the population had quadrupled over the past thirty years. Without expanding the continent's habitable space, overpopulation would soon become a severe issue.
Ye Wen could have used divine power to elevate land from the ocean floor, but he refrained, believing that true human strength lay in self reliance. If mortals relied on gods for everything, they'd grow complacent, and such reliance could lead to their obsolescence. After all, humans weren't the only intelligent beings in the universe; the resilient spirit beast species next door was proof enough of that.
The reclamation went smoothly, with Ye Wen guiding the selection of shallow areas suitable for development. Twenty years later, this project was completed, and Ye Wen's focus turned to modernizing Douluo's transportation infrastructure. To ensure swift resource distribution across the continent, proper roads were essential.
Over time, Douluo began to resemble a modern society. During this period, Ye Wen held a grand wedding ceremony not just marrying Bibi Dong, but celebrating his union with all his wives in a display that captivated the entire continent. Only then did people realize that Master Ye Wen, who had quietly shaped Douluo's future, was actually the sovereign force behind the Holy Soul Empire. That day, Ye Wen became the most envied man on Douluo, though no one dared harbor resentment Ye Wen and his wives demonstrated their god level power, marking the beginning of the age of divine rule.
Later, Ye Wen distributed the mythological text he had compiled, sparking a fervor across Douluo. His reputation elevated him as the reincarnation of the Sea God, the primal Creator. Each of Ye Wen's wives took her place in the mythology as well. Ah Yin became the original Blue Silver God, Poseisi the Water God born alongside him, Bibi Dong took the mantle of the Rakshasa, while Qian Qian and Qian Renxue served as the Angelic Guardians. While these beliefs couldn't manifest new divine positions, they provided a stream of faith for the god officials lacking independent sources of belief. Ye Wen even included minor roles for his other officials, though less prominent.
This myth cast Ye Wen's reincarnation as an act of divine mercy, a deliberate return to bring peace and prosperity to Douluo's suffering world. As time passed, Ye Wen's ascension date drew closer. He had abandoned the capitals of the former empires, creating a unified imperial capital, Holy Soul City. From the towering peaks of its central palace, Ye Wen and his family watched over the glittering city below.
Since their first child, Ye Tianhun, Ye Wen, Qian Qian, and Qian Renxue had welcomed two twin daughters, Ye Tianling and Ye Tianguang. Identical in appearance save for one's silver hair and the other's golden, the two were often indistinguishable. Unlike their elder siblings with dual martial souls, both girls inherited the Ten Winged Angel, likely due to the awakened bloodline of the Ten Winged Angel suppressing the Sea God bloodline. Ye Wen, sensing their perfect harmony with the Angel martial spirit, refrained from adding another, confident that this single spirit would lead them to godhood.
Surrounded by his wives, Ye Wen gazed at the empire they had built together. "It's beautiful," he murmured.
"Indeed," Bibi Dong agreed, a smile on her lips. "I hope this beauty endures."
"It will," he replied confidently. "Even in the God Realm, we'll keep watch over this land."
"Then, let's toast to this wonderful Douluo Continent!"
That day, the family laughed together, celebrating their accomplishments.
Then the day arrived. The Sea God Ye Wen's grand ascension ceremony unfolded under the eyes of all. In full view of the world, the Sea God Ye Wen, Blue Silver Goddess Ah Yin, Water Goddess Poseisi, Rakshasa Goddess Bibi Dong, Angel Guardians Qian Qian and Qian Renxue, along with their six children, rose together into the heavens, vanishing from mortal sight.
The Douluo Continent bathed in radiant golden light, marking this day forever in history as the Day of Divine Grace.
