The following two weeks passed faster than Ayla expected.
At first she thought there would be plenty of time before the move. Yet somehow the days slipped away quietly, one after another, until suddenly the date of departure stood right in front of her.
She barely had time to notice how quickly everything had changed.
Even Lena had already left the city.
The hospital she accepted had required her to join immediately, so she had traveled ahead to the new city nearly two weeks earlier. They had spoken briefly on the phone before she left, promising they would meet again once Ayla arrived.
But after that conversation Lena had become extremely busy with work.
Their messages became short and rare.
Ayla missed her.
The apartment felt a little emptier without their occasional outings and long conversations.
Still, the past two weeks had been filled with so many preparations that Ayla hardly had time to sit quietly.
Packing turned out to be far more exhausting than she imagined.
