Chapter 519: Your Time Has Come
With that leap, Arthur and Lina separated.
He plummeted thanks to gravity, while Lina accelerated even faster with Dragon Rush. In the blink of an eye, both human and dragon were rapidly descending.
This caused Kuisqi's Metagross to completely miss its Meteor Mash, which had been aimed diagonally upwards. The attack whistled harmlessly over Arthur's head.
"Damn it! Togekiss, use Double-Edge!"
Kuisqi hadn't expected his attack to miss. He immediately summoned another Pokémon: Togekiss! The moment it appeared, it charged toward the diving Lina with its ultimate move. With the Fairy-type advantage over Dragons, Togekiss's Double-Edge met Lina's Dragon Rush head-on without fear.
BOOM!
The two Pokémon collided at high speed in mid-air. Energies clashed and exploded, creating a dazzling firework display. For a moment, the light pollution from the turbulent energy completely obscured Kuisqi's vision.
Anxious, he used telepathy to ask Togekiss about the result, but in doing so, he forgot to guard against the other threat descending from the sky!
The next moment, protected by Specter and Mismagius on either side, Arthur burst through the multicolored energy turbulence and landed heavily on Metagross's back!
"What?!"
Kuisqi was shocked once again. He had thought Arthur's jump was just to dodge the Meteor Mash and free his Charizard to attack. He hadn't expected that Arthur's jump wasn't about evasion at all—it was about offense! Unlike modern Champions who focused on command and coordination from a distance, Arthur had always fought on the front lines!
"You're asking for death!"
Kuisqi cursed and instinctively pulled out his handgun to fire. Below him, Metagross roared, warning the brat who dared to climb on its back.
But Arthur didn't care about warnings. "Specter, Body Slam!"
Specter had a rich move pool, and Body Slam was one of them. Instantly, Metagross felt a crushing weight on its back, as if a mountain were pressing down. Without the Flying type or Levitate, it lost control and plummeted.
The sudden loss of gravity threw Kuisqi off balance, and his gun fired into the sky.
BANG!
A gunshot!
But Arthur was unmoved. He wasn't intimidated in the slightest. Calmly staying low, he took two quick steps forward, closed the distance to Kuisqi, and slashed!
In the critical moment, Kuisqi couldn't react in time. It was Metagross who sensed the danger and violently tilted its body at the last second! Kuisqi lost his footing and fell backward, tumbling off Metagross's back and narrowly dodging Arthur's slash.
But Arthur had anticipated this! When it came to life-or-death combat experience, he was leagues ahead of Kuisqi! Doublade hadn't used a move on the first swing because he had calculated the possibility of something like this happening.
"Doublade, go! Aerial Ace!"
The next moment, Arthur swung his arm and threw one of his swords! As the blade left his hand, it glowed with the sky-blue energy of a Flying-type move. Its speed surged, spinning and whistling through the air as it chased the falling Kuisqi!
Doublade was thrilled to have a chance to fly and attack on its own. With Aerial Ace, it was guaranteed to hit!
"Raichu, save me!"
In his panic, Kuisqi dropped his gun mid-air and fumbled for another Poké Ball on his belt, summoning Raichu once again to save his life.
But Raichu came out to a nightmare. It had barely appeared when the sword was right in front of its face! It had just closed its eyes inside the Poké Ball, and the moment it opened them again, a blade was literally a hair's breadth away! Raichu wanted to curse a thousand times over. But it was too late.
Thwack!
Doublade still had one stack of Swords Dance active, and Raichu hadn't had time to use any defensive moves. The blade sliced across Raichu's belly, leaving a bloody gash. The impact sent the Raichu spinning like a top in mid-air.
The sword continued its arc, circling back to Arthur. At this point, both he and Kuisqi were still in freefall, and they were getting close to the ground.
"Rapidash! Catch me with Psychic!"
Forced into a corner, Kuisqi threw another Poké Ball, summoning his Psychic/Fairy-type Galarian Rapidash! With the help of Psychic to slow his descent, he managed to land safely.
The other side was a completely different story.
BOOM!
Metagross, its levitation interrupted by Specter's Body Slam, fell like a stone, smashing into the sand and kicking up a massive cloud of dust. No stabilization, no slowing down. It was a full-speed impact, a picture of mutual destruction.
"Metagross, are you okay?"
Kuisqi was about to ask about his Pokémon's condition, but in the next second, he saw a human wielding dual swords leap off the crashed Metagross in the dust cloud and charge straight at him without pausing!
This is insane! Kuisqi wanted to scream. You just fell from that height and you don't need a second to recover? Are you even human?!
This wild fighting style was beyond his comprehension! And how could a trainer charge harder and have more killing intent than a Pokémon?!
In an instant, he lost all interest in Metagross's condition. He had lost his gun in the fall, and now, facing Arthur, he felt for the first time that he might be in trouble. Very, very likely. The feeling was so strong he could almost see his death omen star blinking.
"Raichu, get down here! Electro Ball! Mr. Mime, Reflect!"
Backing away while shouting orders, Kuisqi's voice was so high-pitched it was cracking. In contrast, Arthur's expression, demeanor, and tone remained as cold as ever.
"Lina, intercept Raichu in the air. Specter, pin Metagross with Shadow Tag. Mismagius, Astonish on Mr. Mime!"
His commands were fast but steady, without a hint of panic. It was a stark contrast to Kuisqi's screeching, off-key voice. Just listening to the sounds of the battlefield, it would be hard to imagine this was a duel between an eighteen-year-old boy and a famous, active Champion.
Mismagius used Astonish on the newly released Mr. Mime. Mr. Mime and Raichu had narrowly escaped death at the hands of Groudon earlier, and both were heavily injured. In its weakened state, Mr. Mime flinched uncontrollably at Mismagius's Astonish.
The cast for Reflect was interrupted. Kuisqi's first line of defense had failed.
Arthur was still charging, sword in hand! Kuisqi could only retreat in panic.
"Rapidash, Megahorn!"
Galarian Rapidash, with its unicorn-like horn, charged to protect its master, lowering its head as the tip of its horn shone with a comet-like light.
"Little Lapras, Smart Strike!"
But Arthur countered immediately, summoning an interceptor of his own. Little Lapras appeared, also lowering her head. Horn against horn, point against point!
"Starmie, Psychic!"
Desperate to save himself, Kuisqi was now throwing out his injured Pokémon one after another to serve as meat shields. But Arthur's Pokémon were just as disciplined!
"Little Eevee, Double-Edge, knock it away!"
Little Eevee was currently in his Leafeon form. Groudon's intense sunlight had perfectly activated his Chlorophyll ability, making him as fast as lightning! Accelerating into the charge, he threw himself with incredible momentum at an opponent far stronger than himself, without a hint of fear or hesitation!
Though young, he was an Eevee who had faced a Legendary! In that moment, as he leaped toward Starmie, Arthur almost saw a vision of the original Leafeon. Two different Eevees, but sharing the same lineage of bravery and fearlessness!
Kuisqi's guardians were intercepted once again!
And now, Arthur was less than five meters away from him!
His grip on the sword tightened.
