Chapter 4 - Stone Monkey?

Stone Monkey?

As he approached the place where the impact occurred, Gohan came across a trail of destruction within the bamboo forest, several bamboos were broken at varying levels, a path formed on the ground indicating that the Saiyan ship did not stop immediately, but continued dragging itself leaving a huge path cutting through the ground until it stopped somewhere.

Gohan was impressed by the destruction that a space capsule from Freeza's army caused in the environment, he followed the path left by the ship until he came across a huge white sphere with a reddish circular glass in the center that served as a window, the old man threw out the window any caution that was in his conscience, instead he began to compare the object in front of him with what he knew about the myth that inspired the creation of Goku's character.

Sun Wukong was born from a stone egg that absorbed the energy of heaven and earth. The space capsule in front of him, if left out in the open for a long period, could actually be mistaken for a large stone sphere. He let out a light laugh, he found the situation funny, but that didn't matter at the moment. Gohan left his fishing gear on the ground and approached the spherical object. He placed his face close to the red glass, hoping to see something or receive some reaction from the Saiyan inside the ship.

No sooner said than done, when his face appeared in the window, a hand flew out in an attempt to attack him. Obviously, in an act of instinctive defense, the little Saiyan performed the abrupt appearance of Son Gohan. Seeing this, the old man slowly moved away from the capsule, taking a step back, being at a distance that would give the child a sense of security. He walked around the object, looking for some mechanism that could be used to open the spaceship. It didn't take long to find access on the side, it was away from the window and easily accessible. Calmly, the old man walked to his objective, crouched down and felt for the place. After pressing the place, the access cover opened, revealing a lever that he deduced would open the capsule's hatch. This ship was certainly an old model to still use a mechanical mechanism instead of a remote control like Nappa's, which was shown at the end of the Saiyan saga.

Gohan wasted no time and pulled the lever, and not long after he could hear the sound similar to a hydraulic system of the door doing something, maybe it was just adjusting the pressure difference from the inside to the outside, or it could be anything that Gohan couldn't explain, he wasn't graduated in mechanics and aerospace engineering to know that, it would be nice to have a degree like that, but it was something that unfortunately he didn't have.

Having opened the door for the little Saiyan, the old man watched for a moment before moving to the side, waiting for some reaction from the child, it wasn't long before he saw a black mane coming out, the iconic hairstyle of the series' protagonist made itself visible to him, a child with a monkey tail dressed in standard Frieza army armor that had a height that reached his waist was standing outside the space capsule.

'Now... what do I do?' Gohan thought. 'I didn't plan what I would do when I found Goku, nor did I expect it to happen so soon...'

Gohan stood there with a complicated expression, he knew how to raise a child, he had a son in his other life, the problem was not raising the young Saiyan, it was dealing with the boy's behavior, he had never dealt with a child with wild behavior, especially because human children were not naturally aggressive. While the old man was lost in thought, the child turned around and saw him. This stopped Gohan from thinking. The two stared at each other for a while. Kakarot assessed him to see if he was a possible threat or something harmless. Gohan stood still, watching what the young man would do. It was at that moment that Gohan moved one leg back to get into a stable position. This created a huge domino effect. The child was startled by the abrupt movement and jumped towards the old human. Gohan could easily react to this childish attack. The child seemed to be in slow motion, and counterattacking effectively with a kick—even a hook—would be fine in this situation if he were a teenager or adult. But even without the memories of his other life, he would never hit someone so young without a very good reason. After all, he was still an old man with a kind heart. So, he made the least difficult decision for him. He stretched out his arms and grabbed the Saiyan child, who jumped towards him.

Gohan was proud of his decision, he told himself it was okay, he flexed his arms slightly, this closed the distance between him and the boy, and everything was fine, until Gohan took a kick to the chin, for an instant he completely forgot that Saiyans are a battle species with instincts and reflexes geared towards combat, this moment seemed to cheer up the young warrior who laughed with a big smile on his face, this made Gohan sigh in defeat, he thought he would have to grab him by the tail, but apparently the young Saiyan was sadistic enough to find fun in just landing a kick to his face.

"For a kid, you really had a strong kick, Kakarot" whispered Gohan, saying the child's name as he felt it wasn't right to call him Goku now that he had knowledge of the Dragon Ball series.

Even though he whispered, Kakarot's hearing seemed to be sensitive enough to hear him clearly, the boy stopped laughing and looked closely at the elderly man who called his name, the child clearly remembered other people calling him that in some moments of lucidity when he was still in the nutrition capsule, this simple act was enough to make the young Saiyan more docile with the old human.

Gohan noticed the change very easily, he was in disbelief at the child's huge behavioral change.

'It can't be that easy...' Gohan thought. 'Apparently, all we needed to do was call him by his name to make him friendly!' The old man cried in his thoughts. 'If that's the case, we won't have Son Goku, just Kakarot... Well, it's the name his mother gave him, it would leave a bad taste in my mouth to remove his only connection to his parents.' Gohan finished his thought.

Old Gohan placed Kakarotto on the ground and moved towards the space capsule. His curiosity was enormous. In his other life, he would never have thought he would have the chance to personally see a space capsule, obviously because it was fiction, but now he had this chance in front of him, and he would take advantage of it. The alien child continued to watch the old human, curious about what he was going to do. Despite not knowing how to speak, even though he seemed to be about 3 years old, Kakarotto showed the innocent curiosity that many children had, and that is why he began to follow Gohan.

The old man, aware of the attention he was receiving, continued to look inside the small spaceship. He saw the ship's white upholstery, a small side panel that apparently served to control the ship, and a small compartment at the bottom of the panel. Gohan, in his curiosity, opened the small compartment, revealing a standard Scouter that appeared to be turned off. He knew the small object could serve as a communicator, meter, and tracker. He didn't know if it could be tracked remotely, and he had no plan or desire to try to find out if his luck was good or bad. Imagine a giant ship appearing without any warning after noticing the signal of an unknown Scouter coming from planet Earth. He could take these things to Capsule Corp in West City. That was the idea that came to Gohan's mind, but it was quickly discarded. Who would believe an old man saying he possessed alien technology? Gohan put the Scouter back in the compartment and moved to the lever on the outside of the ship to close the hatch.

The sound of the door closing caused a startled reaction in the little Saiyan who was not expecting the sudden sound. Gohan watched the boy's reactions with amusement. With the ship closed, Gohan placed his hands on the bottom of the object and began to lift it. The ship was heavier than he had imagined, but it was still a weight he could carry without much trouble. Turning to the child, Gohan thought about what he should say.

"Being in the wild can be dangerous for a child like you, so let's go to my house," Gohan said to the young Saiyan who tilted his head to the side as if he had difficulty understanding what the elderly man was saying.

Sighing, Son Gohan crouched down to the height of the child who was surrounding him, he placed the ship on the ground, walked to his fishing equipment, he would take advantage of the basket with handles to carry on his back that he had to store fish to carry the Saiyan child, Kakarotto still following Gohan was intrigued by the basket and ran to the object, he began to sniff the lingering smell of fish in the straw, Gohan showed a slight smile, amused by the child's reactions, the old man then moved and lifted Kakarotto.

The sudden act seemed to frighten the young Saiyan who began to struggle in the hope of freeing himself from the human hands, his effort was in vain, after all, Gohan was still a much stronger human than average, the old Gohan sweated with the child's attempts to get out of his hands, he continued and lowered the Saiyan into the straw basket, the boy now looked at Gohan suspiciously and annoyed with the treatment, Gohan just sighed in defeat, seeing how the once curious boy would prove to be difficult to care for.

Gohan took the basket with his fishing equipment and a wild Kakarotto on his back while carrying a spherical spaceship in his arms, he could fish tomorrow, as today was a tiring day.
