Lu Zhen moved from his seat to sit next to his wife. He wrapped her in his arms and rested his head on top of her head, taking in the sweet scent of her hair.
He still remembered the dispair of watching that gate close while he was inside the city and she was outside, alone facing aliens, zombies, and human traitors.
He didn't see how she died, but he could imagine that without witnessing it in person.
He would never allow himself to be in that situation again. And for that to happen, he had to make sure that his Leng Pan was never forced to make that self-sacrificing choice again.
That could only happen if they rooted out the traitors and made strategies to eliminate the aliens and zombies without having their intelligence leaked.
Lu Zhen closed his eyes and took a deep breath, "You're right," he said finally.
"We died once because we underestimated the human heart. This time, we won't make the same mistake. We'll hunt the traitors as fiercely as we hunt the zombies."
