Chapter 23 - chapter 23 : metorite found

Today , whole group was going for camping in forest.

Aaron looked at the group. Everyone was there. Jonathan and Martha. Aryan and Ashley. Clark. Him.

" Should we come with you, don't go far away"

"No," Aaron said. "We won't go far."

...

First night camping.

The fire crackled. Stars filled the Kansas sky. Marshmallows on sticks.

Martha handed Ashley a cup of coffee. "How are the fields?"

"Good. The soil here is better than I expected. My plants are responding."

The adults laughed while eating , Easy. Comfortable.

Clark looked at Aaron. Jerked his head toward the trees.

Aaron nodded. They slipped away.

...

The forest was dark. Moonlight through branches.

"Where are we going?" Aaron asked.

"Deeper. I saw something like big snake."

" Big snake?"

"It was huge, like anaconda movie"

They walked twenty minutes. The trees opened.

A lake. Small. Hidden. The water was black and still.

And it glowed.

Green. Faint. From the center.

"There," Clark said. "Under the water."

"A meteor rock."

"Big one."

They stripped to shorts. Dove in.

The water was cold. Aaron felt the tingle on his skin. The green glow grew brighter as they swam deeper.

At the bottom, a meteorite. Huge. The size of a small boulder. Green crystals jagged and sharp. Pulsing.

Clark reached for it.

His hand trembled. Veins darkened. He started sinking.

...

Suddenly big sanke swallowed unconscious clark, and Aaron grabbed him.

One arm around Clark's chest. Pulling hard. Kicking up.

They broke the surface. Clark gasped. Weak.

"Too big," Clark said. "Too much."

"Stay here."

Aaron dove again and attack at snake again, snake swallowed him.

At end, Aaron started the devouring snake body inside and step by step.

He saw big stone in body of snake like attached to snake spine.

He reached the meteorite. His hand touched it.

Nothing. No pain. No weakness.

His serpent stirred. Rose from his chest. Pale gold. Translucent.

It opened its mouth over the green stone.

The energy flowed. Green light into gold. Radiation into something else.

The meteorite's glow faded. The serpent grew longer. Brighter.

The system panel vibrated.

The snake who thinking of digestion, suddenly felt his power vanishing, and weak.

Aaron tore the snake body, and number of bats started to suck blood from his body.

Within 20 minutes, all was sucked dry, and snake with vibration and trembling fell and snake serpent absorbed the soul of dead snake.

...

Aaron floated in the dark water.

He raised his hand. Turned it over.

The sun allergy. Gone. He could feel it. The cell memory was still there but the reaction was dead.

He swam up.

...

Clark was on the shore. Weak but standing.

"Aaron? You okay?"

"Yeah."

Aaron stepped out of the water. Dried off. Didn't feel the usual pull. The usual burn waiting.

"What's the Rakt race?"

Clark looked confused. "What?"

Aaron shook his head. "Nothing. Talking to myself."

But the question stayed.

Rakt race. Different from vampire. Something older. Something buried.

Later. He would figure it out later.

...

"Turn around," Aaron said.

"Why?"

"Just turn."

Clark turned.

Aaron closed his eyes. Focused.

There was no incantation this time. The serpent knew. The blood knew.

He stepped backward. Into Clark's shadow.

And vanished.

...

Clark turned back. "Aaron?"

Nothing.

"Aaron!"

Silence.

Then behind him. From his own shadow. A shape rose.

"Boo."

Clark spun. Instinct took over.

His leg snapped out. A kick. Full strength. No holding.

Aaron flew backward. Hit a tree. Spit blood.

"WHAT—" Clark ran to him. "Sorry! Sorry! I didn't mean—"

Aaron held up a hand. Blood on his lips. But he was smiling. Barely.

"That was my fault. I surprised you."

"Your chest—"

Aaron looked down. His chest was already healing. Ribs knitting. Skin closing.

"Already healing."

Clark stared. "I felt something crack."

"It did. Three ribs. Maybe four. They are fine now."

"Bro. Your strength is out of charts. In this world, I have never seen anyone like you."

Clark sat down hard. "I could have killed you."

"No. I am hard to kill."

...

They sat by the lake. Aaron's chest finished healing.

The hunger came. Sharp. Hollow.

"Healing takes energy," Aaron said. "I need to hunt."

"Hunt what?"

"Something with blood. Bear. Deer. Large animal."

Clark closed his eyes. Listening.

A moment passed.

"North. Half mile. There's a deer. Big one."

"Good."

"Also a bear. Further out."

"Deer first. Bear next."

Clark stood. "I'll help."

"Just find them. I'll do the rest."

...

They walked north. Quiet. Quick.

Clark pointed. "There."

A stag. Huge antlers. Alone.

Aaron moved. No sound. Speed that was not human. The vampire awakening had changed his legs. His lungs. His muscles.

One strike. The stag fell.

He drank. Quick. Efficient. The blood was warm. Filled the hollow.

When he stood, his eyes glowed crimson for a moment. Then brown again.

"Better?"

"Better."

"Bear next?"

"No. That was enough."

...

They walked back toward camp. Slower now.

"Clark."

"Yeah?"

"I have a method. To make your parents supernatural."

Clark stopped walking.

"What?"

"Really?"

"Yes."

"Is there side effects?"

"Side effects, yeah. You need huge money. And blood of animals. And time."

"What kind of side effects?"

"Changes. Body changes. Abilities. My father can control fish now. He has to swim every day or he dries out. My mother talks to plants. It is not free."

Clark walked in silence.

"But they would be healthier," Aaron said. "Longer life. More strength."

"How much longer?"

"I do not know. But longer."

They reached the edge of camp. The fire still burning. Laughter from the adults.

Clark watched his parents. Jonathan laughing at something Aryan said. Martha pouring more coffee.

"I want to," Clark said. "But I'll ask them first."

"That is right."

"Aaron."

"Yes?"

"Thank you."

Aaron nodded.

...

Later. Alone.

Aaron sat away from the fire. The system panel still glowed faintly.

Rakt race. 0.00000000001%.
