CASEY
Mom and Dad stare at each other, communicating silently with their eyes.
"Please, please..." Victor says, clasping his hands as if in prayer. "You promised. You already said yes."
Mom smiles, then turns toward Victor and says, "That's fine with us, as long as your brother can spend the day with you. If he can find the time in his busy schedule to actually spend time with you, then it's fine by us."
Victor is already nodding, his little head bouncing enthusiastically. Leonard continues, more firmly this time,
"Just remember, Cesar, Casey has to be there. You've never taken care of a child, not even a pet, in your entire life. It would make us feel more at ease if she's there, at least until we can leave him with you without worrying."
Cesar's face goes tight. He looks at Victor, who's doing a little victory shimmy in his seat, grinning from ear to ear. Then Cesar nods, though his jaw is clenched.
But Victor groans. "What now? You're going to say no, aren't you?"
