Chapter 216 - 216. Danovus?

The Athamanas finally set off, following Tame, the leader of Etele's ghost troops, further into the danovus island, which they learned on the way was called Szelevu. The island, which seemed huge to the hegins, had its own mountains and lakes, vast forests, and, according to Tame, an even larger rocky no-man's land where the battles between the danovuses and the ghosts were taking place.

Although the team had planned to reach the ghost camp that same day, they were forced to set up camp themselves as the sun set. Tame grumbled about it and, without any remorse, shared his opinion of the living with the hegins and their undersea-walker follower. Although poor Llyr blinked at everything like a baby when they first take him around the tribal center, no one reproached him for it, knowing that the surface world itself was new to the undersea-walker.

"Aren't you going to go see if everything is okay with the troops?" Etele asked, when the group of living people had already set up their yurt, which had just caught Llyr's attention, and was sitting by their freshly lit campfire.

"No way, if I leave you for even a minute, you'll will disappear for me with your whole pile of toys." Tame announced, and from his tone the hegins knew exactly that the ghost spoke from experience. True, it didn't take much observation to figure this out, considering that Etele made such a horrible face at the ghost's words that even the old witches from the fairy tales would have envied him.

"Okay, then stay here on our necks." Etele grumbled under his breath and folded his arms in front of him.

"That was the plan, boss." Tame grinned at him, then simply started staring at the fire that danced in front of him.

Silence slowly fell on their small camp, and then night too. The island of Szelevu was calm, only the sounds of the night could be heard, the Athamanas were just thinking about going to bed, when Physalis Alkekengi disappeared from the fire and appeared in front of Achilleus, who had just returned to the clearing.

"Where is it?" The danovus woman asked, and Achilleus blinked at her.

"What?" The Motumisz boy asked.

"Where did it bite you? Who was it and why didn't I hear it?" The danovus woman's questions rained down, which finally made the team turn towards them and blink in confusion at the scene, just like Achilleus.

"Nothing bit me. Can't a hegin relieve himself in peace anymore?" The Motumisz boy grimaced.

"Don't play with me!" The danovus woman hissed.

"Achilleus, since when have your eyes been pinkish purple?" Benkó asked, so surprised that he even forgot to call his friend by his nickname.

"Did you go blind, peeing boy? You know my eyes are brown." Achilleus rolled his eyes.

"It's like..." Citar started the sentence and turned to Wandi, who was sitting next to him, and was looking at their friend with a serious look.

"Yes, exactly like that, even the smell is the same." The heir of the Vojk tribe added, which only made his companions look at him in confusion.

"As I see it, it's not just the chüvigh who's lost the thread this time." Rahul spoke slowly, then took a deep breath and nodded his head to the side as he grinned evilly. "So someone tell me what's going on here before I do something I'll regret." He said seriously.

"Hey, hey! Calm down Rahul! There's no need to get so worked up." Teveli tried to calm down, the hegin who grew up in the West.

"What happened Rahul? You're not used to being so violent." Suk chuckled, who clearly enjoyed the situation.

"I'm sleepy." Rahul shrugged, then curiously turned first to one, then to the other danovus.

"A born danavus has eyes that color when they uses their abilities or when they are among fellow danovuses without a stranger present." Wandi began to explain.

"Those who are poisoned, however, cannot control their eye color for a few hundred years, so they are easy to recognize." Physalis Alkekengi continued.

"Poisoned?" Achilleus raised his eyebrows.

"Those like you, who were bitten by a danovus with the intention of making you one of us." The danovus woman snapped.

"But I tell you, nothing bit me! Not even a damn mosquito!" Achilleus raised his hands to the sky.

"Someone had to, because you look very much like one of us!" Physalis Alkekengi caught the boy's wrist, when she suddenly started blinking, as if she didn't understand something. Without any further words, she bent down to the boy's chest and lowered her eyes, even turning her head to the side, as if she really wanted to hear something. "What the fuck is wrong with you, hegin?" The woman asked as she let go of the Motumisz boy, as if he was burning her and even pulled her lips back from her teeth, like a startled animal.

"I have no idea what's wrong again." Achilleus defended himself.

"I can hear your heartbeat, your wrists are warm. That means you are human, but my eyes and nose say you are a danovus." The woman grimaced.

"Have any of you ever heard of such a thing?" Razvan asked as he looked at the two danovuses, then at the two members of the Immortal Mist, and finally at the ghosts present.

"Don't look at me, General! I have never heard of such a thing." Kamu shook his head.

"Me neither, but I would be happy to conduct some experiments to find out what is behind it." Ajtony's eyes began to sparkle as he looked at Achilleus.

"Calm down, Szotradoki! You are not stabbing the child." Kamu announced.

"Damn it!" Ajtony whined, but it seemed that he got over it quickly, because after less than a minute he was grinning like a wild apple.

"I have never heard of such a thing." Tame remarked, holding his chin with one hand and looking curiously at Achilleus. "His kí is the same color." He finally shrugged.

"Don't ask me, even if I had heard of it, I would forget it, because I think it's stupid." Etele spread his arms.

"I guess we don't have to say that we haven't encountered anything like this before, if we had, I wouldn't be so surprised. The same goes for the little danovus." Physalis Alkekengi explained.

"So no one knows anything." Razvan nodded. "You didn't feel any change, Achilleus?" He asked the boy, who shook his head.

"Everything is the same as it was in the morning." The Motumisz boy said.

"I understand. I think we won't be able to find an answer to this question on our own. Since no one has been harmed, it is better to put the matter aside and, if we have the chance, ask someone about it who is more knowledgeable than us in the secrets of the world." The leader of the Athamanas decided, whereupon the hegins present spoke at once.

"Yes sir!"
