Chapter 6: Adrian Notices
Adrian Sterling sat in his office, scrolling through emails, barely listening as his assistant gave updates.
"The gala was a success, and the investors were pleased," his assistant said. "Oh, and Miss Ravenshire didn't attend this year."
Adrian's fingers stilled over his keyboard. "What?"
"Miss Ravenshire," the assistant repeated. "She declined the invitation."
A frown formed on Adrian's lips.
Evelyn had never missed an event he attended before.
For as long as he could remember, she had always been there—demanding his attention, finding excuses to speak to him, lingering in his presence.
And now, she was gone?
"Are you sure?" he asked.
His assistant nodded. "Yes, sir. She hasn't been attending any social events lately."
Adrian sat back in his chair, drumming his fingers against the desk.
It didn't matter.
Evelyn Ravenshire had been a nuisance, constantly forcing herself into his life. If she had finally given up, then good.
Then why did it bother him?
He shook off the thought and returned to work.
Still, by the end of the day, he found himself checking his phone, half-expecting a message from her.
But there was nothing.
