As the tide of Ferals began to be cut down by the tide of incoming cultists the battlefield was quickly becoming more manageable by the minute. It was not at all less chaotic but it had gone from a life and death struggle to one where they could at least stop holding their breath.
While the cultists began to encircle and swarm around the feral ghouls from the west, a few splitting off to aid the North side and the South side too the man in the inverted robe made his way through the battlefield with a gaunt that showed a complete indifference to the battle raging around him, as if he was unafraid of getting hurt. Nay, it was as if he had faith that no harm would come to him.
"Who is the leader of this army?" The man said as he made it to the center mass of the camp where most of the fighters were. His tone was cold and condescending, but Adam was not about to be picky about that.
Adam didn't want to call himself the leader of the army, it was not fitting, but considering the roles he had been playing it seemed at least partially accurate, and considering the rest of the leaders were busy he had to speak up.
"You can speak to me." Adam said, willing to break from the combat for the moment to speak with the man. He would rather not, after all the fighting was still on going, he was still in a very dangerous position, but they needed to plan, and this man just brought in a huge number of reinforcements, the least he could do is speak with him. Also, there was a tiny part of him that wondered if this man was the leader of the Cult of Pestilence himself.
"Ah yes, wonderful." The man said as he casually folded his hands behind his back and walked over to Adam, his condescending tone remaining. "I have been ordered by His Holiness himself into this fight along many of our flock to ensure the lost sheep are not slaughtered, after all, it wouldn't do to see so many of the lost be killed before they can achieve salvation." He said with a crooked smile and a magnanimous gesture. His words and tone sounded saintly but he couldn't quite get rid of that condescending tone he had, as if he was looking down on everyone else here, as if they were all an inferior species and it was his duty to uplift them. Adam already didn't like this guy, but he was not about to say that to his face. However this initial comment did answer one of his questions. This man was not the leader, perhaps someone higher up, but he was ordered to this fight, which means someone is above him. Food for thought for later, he had to stay on task.
"Thank you for showing up when you did, it was getting dire." Adam said to him, ignoring the blatant rudeness this man was showing.
"Of course~" He said in a matter-of-fact way. "It is only natural that the enlightened, in service of his Holiness, work to better those who have been so thoroughly misguided." He smiled again. God Adam hated this man already so much. He was regretting saying he was even slightly religious earlier to Eve, he may not be much of a believer, but this man tainted his desire to even associate with any faith at all.
Adam kept it all inside, however, for the moment he couldn't afford to act on his emotions, he needed their help, so he would swallow his pride and use it.
"Well… I appreciate it." Adam said, through just barely not gritted teeth. "We just knocked down the building on the eastern side, but they will crawl their way through eventually, however our current issue is that the ferals seem to be swarming out from the west, I suspect the sewers, but I have no confirmation of this."
"I see." The man said, putting a finger to his chin as he considered. "Leave the west to me and those who have joined the crusade." He grinned, his smile was unnerving though, like he knew something Adam didn't. Again though, Adam didn't have time to argue. Instead he just nodded to him.
"You handle the West, seal the entrances, and we will regroup here, shore up the defenses." Adam then turned away from the man and looked for Colonel Harrison, finding him in the chaos a moment later, wearing the only suit of T51b power armor the gunners had and stabbing a knife into a feral ghoul that had crawled over the sandbag wall and was about to attack one of his men. "Colonel!" Adam called out to him loudly.
The Colonel turned to look at Adam, then noticed the new man next to him and then chose to ignore him and approach Adam.
"What is it? I hate to say it but we do not have the luxury for a chat right now." He said with a no-nonsense tone as he looked down at Adam from his heightened stance due to the power armor. He was lucky, because of his power armor helmet he was able to see better in the dust cloud that was covering parts of the battlefield now as well as not accidentally breathing it in. His men had to simply deal with it. Perks of command, perhaps?
"I agree." Adam said seriously back. "I want you to order your vertibird to land, I think I know what we have to do to end this fight." Adam said with confidence. Colonel Harrison stared Adam down for a moment, perhaps sizing him up and reading his mind before he nodded, pulled out a flare gun from his side pouch and then fired it up into the air.
"Do what you have to do. The men aboard will take your orders, finish this fight, Adam. Our casualties are mounting." He said with a solemn tone before he turned back around and left to rejoin his pocket of men still on the eastern wall. Adam then turned to the cultist and nodded to him again.
"I'm counting on you, good luck." He said to him seriously.
"Our faith protects us and carries us through, fear not, little lamb, all shall be well." He said as he then turned, slipped two sickles out of each sleeve of his robe and then dove headfirst into the fight.
"EVE! SALVATORE!" Adam called out loudly to the crowd as he could hear the vertibird flying overhead now, preparing to set down nearby.
Eve was the first one over, pulling herself, literally, from the carnage of the, now less intense, fight on the western front and joining Adam, her claws and forearms coated in blood and guts.
"What is it handsome?~ Got something fun planned?" She asked, still with a flirty tone. Adam couldn't help but find it amusing that even now, in this hell of a situation, she was the same as ever.
"You still have an onboard targeting system, yes? You can scan through crowds of people and pick out targets?" Adam asked, skipping the playful banter and focusing on the task. Eve tilted her head a bit and then nodded slightly.
"Not as well as I once could, time has degraded many of my sensitive parts, but I should still have a better targeting system than that silly little toy on your arm~" She teased. After she was done speaking Salvatore ran over, a bit out of breath but reloading his rifle with a fresh magazine and looking ready for more fighting.
"What kid? We don't have time for chatting." He said, a tiny bit annoyed to be pulled away from the sandbag wall, but also understanding Adam probably had a good idea in mind.
The Vertibird then set down about 20 feet away from Adam's position. He turned to look at it for a moment and then back at the two of them.
"I have a plan, come on, let's get on the Vertibird and get into the air, I'll explain on the way." Adam said seriously as he left no room for arguments, boarding the Vertibird a moment later.
