Chapter 2 - SABINE

It was hard to get rid of the notion in my mind that my life is about to change since I left the bookstore. My encounter with Luca had been both exciting and terrifying. How can I connect with a stranger so strongly? Not even just any stranger , a mysterious one at that.

I kept thinking about his piercing blue eyes and the look of his gentle smile on his face. I wonder if fate will bring us together again as I head back to my dorm room. Is it just an ordinary encounter, or is there really any connection between us? Feeling a little overwhelmed, I entered the room and collapsed onto my bed.

My roommate, Amara, lifted her head from her book to welcome me but arched an eyebrow instead as she saw my expression. She said, "Hey, what's wrong?" I shook my head and moaned. I tried to explain, "I just met this guy at the bookshop," I added. "And it was just so strange and terrifying, though exciting.Even though I don't know him, I felt a weird connection to him. Amara's inquisitiveness caused her eyes to widen. Saying, "Explain," she set down her book. Uncertain of how much to divulge, I paused for a bit. However, Amara's inquisitive look calmed me down, and I ended up telling her the entire story.

I couldn't hold back from feeling a little foolish as I spoke. I might have been overanalysing the situation. Perhaps Luca just happened to be a regular man who shared my interest in the same book. However, I secretly knew it wasn't the case. Something in Luca was unique, something that pulled me to him in a manner I couldn't quite put my finger on. I also had the unshakeable conviction that, with Luca at my side, my life was about to take a drastic turn as I lay in bed that night. It would take me on a journey of risk and discovery. As the evening went on, I kept having the impression that Luca was still out there, observing me.

Despite my best efforts to concentrate on my studies, my thoughts kept returning to our encounter at the bookshop. When Sarah saw I was distracted, she made an effort to comfort me. "Hey, don't worry about it," she said. "It's unlikely that you'll ever see him again. Simply put it behind you and move forward. But I was unable to ignore it. The impression that Luca was significant and would alter my life in ways I could not have predicted persisted in my mind. I started searching for Luca everywhere I went as the days passed. I looked over the campus crowds, hoping to see his black hair and sharp blue eyes. In the hopes that I may see him again, I even returned to the bookshop, sadly as it seems he was no where to be found.

I was beginning to believe that Luca was a creation of my imagination and that I had imagined the entire situation. Then one evening, though, I got a curious gift in the mail. The book was wrapped in twine and brown paper. Luca was the sender, even though there was no message or return address. As I opened the book, my heart was pounding with anticipation. There were odd markings and symbols on the ancient leather-bound book. A chill went through me as I opened the book.

Throughout the pages were scribbled notes in a language I was unable to comprehend. However, I had a sudden energy boost as I turned the pages, like if my body had been charged with electricity. That's when I realised that Luca was real and attempting to reach me. But what exactly does he want from me? What made him to be so secretive ? The remainder of the night was spent scouring the book in an attempt to make sense of the odd markings and symbols. But when the light started to rise, I knew that I was still no closer to deciphering the book's and Luca's enigma.

Just as I was ready to give up, there was a slight knock on the door. My heart was racing when I froze. Is Luca here? How did he know where I live? Grasping the door handle with a shaking hand, I carefully stood up and walked to the door. Taking a deep breath, I opened the door and looked around the hallway to see whether Luca was there. To my astonishment, though, Luca wasn't the one in the hallway. It was a stranger, a woman with sharp green eyes and long black hair. With a knowing gleam in her eyes, she grinned at me. She said, "Hello, Emily," in a raspy, low voice. "My name is Sabine. I'm here to pick you up.

I felt a shiver run down my spine as I stared at Sabine, my mind racing with questions. Who was she and what did she want from me? How did she know me? Where's she from? Who sent her?

All these questions are on the tip of my tongue as I wonder who she is, but before I could ask any questions, Sabine reached out and took my hand, pulling me out of my dorm room and into the unknown.
