Chapter 171 - Chapter 171: Carol’s Confession

"The three strongest empires in the universe are the Kree Empire, the Skrull Empire, and the Shi'ar Empire. The Chitauri don't quite measure up to them, but they're still far more powerful than Earth."

Nick Fury leaned back, his one eye narrowing thoughtfully as he listened to Carol's summary. It aligned perfectly with the intel Su Xiuyu had already shared. That meant… he wasn't bluffing.

Nick hadn't expected that the ragtag group of Skrull refugees were originally from such a formidable empire.

"It's been years since the Battle of New York, but the city still feels like a warzone," Nick muttered bitterly. "Why hasn't it recovered?"

He couldn't help but feel frustrated. Ironically, the wisest move he ever made as Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. was choosing neutrality when the U.S. military declared war on the ninja clans. That choice allowed S.H.I.E.L.D. to survive—barely—while the military had taken a brutal beating.

It wasn't that their weapons didn't work. It was that the ninjas refused to play by conventional rules. No bases. No borders. They'd strike like phantoms and vanish before anyone could retaliate. Infiltration techniques, illusions, explosive tags, ambushes from underground—they were nightmares made real.

Nick didn't embellish when he relayed the whole story to Carol. There was no point lying—especially when both she and Su Xiuyu could sniff out the truth with ease.

"So," Carol said, arms crossed, "you're telling me the ninjas didn't break any laws. They just took what they earned. Then the U.S. military got jealous and started a war. That about right?"

"That's… not exactly it," Nick said, hesitating. "The U.S. government and military are the rightful sovereigns of the land. They should have had the authority to claim the spoils from the Chitauri invasion…"

Nick's words trailed off under Carol's glare.

"Let me ask you this," she said sharply. "Where were they when the Chitauri invaded?"

"Carol, you were part of the Air Force. You know how unrealistic it is for a government not to claim victory spoils in a battle fought on their own soil—"

"And where do defeated nations get their spoils from, Nick?" she snapped.

That shut him up.

Carol's voice grew colder. "You and your precious military forgot one crucial thing. Su Xiuyu hasn't even gotten involved yet. Only a handful of ninjas have acted. Ask yourself—why do you think he hasn't made a move?"

Nick swallowed hard. "I… I don't know."

"It's because he doesn't care enough to waste his time," she said, eyes burning. "You remember the giants from the Battle of New York? Su Xiuyu could obliterate every military base on Earth in a day. Your so-called 'ultimate weapon'—the nuclear bomb—wouldn't even scratch him."

Carol wasn't holding back now.

"Have you ever stopped to reflect on what you did wrong?" she continued. "In the universe, power speaks. If this had happened out there, no one would bat an eye if Su Xiuyu wiped out Earth. No empire would even bother avenging you."

Even the mighty Kree or Skrull empires wouldn't dare challenge someone like Su Xiuyu.

Nick clenched his jaw. "Still, the spoils belong to the people—"

"Nick Fury!" Carol shouted, her voice echoing like a thunderclap. "Do you seriously still believe America is some kind of holy beacon in the galaxy? Out there, Earthlings aren't even worth enslaving!"

Her words cut deep. Not out of cruelty, but from painful experience.

"I'm not trying to betray Earth," she added, softer this time. "But I've seen the truth beyond the stars. And you—Earth—you still think you're the center of everything."

She changed the subject.

"Oh, by the way, there are two new monsters stirring things up in the universe. Rumor has it they're from the Central Courtyard."

With a tap on her wrist device, Carol projected two figures in 3D. Both had long, black hair. One wore blood-red samurai armor. The other followed silently behind.

Nick's eye twitched. Even if he didn't recognize the men, their aura—their presence—was unmistakable.

"Let me guess," he said dryly. "Uchiha clan?"

Carol smirked. "Right on the mark. Uchiha Madara and Uchiha Izuna. They're honored guests of the Supreme Lord now. Last I heard, they're the hottest names on Planet Sakaar."

Nick raised a brow. "Sakaar? That criminal sinkhole?"

Carol nodded. "A criminal paradise—and also a graveyard. But they're thriving there. Madara Susano left entire arenas in ruins."

Nick shook his head in disbelief. "Is that ability hereditary? Every Uchiha I've seen has it."

Carol shot him a look. "That's why they're considered elite even by galactic standards. Su Xiuyu's clan alone could colonize a planet in months."

She floated a little higher, her figure glowing with cosmic light.

"So be grateful Earth hasn't been reduced to dust yet. That's not because you were smart, Nick. It's because Su Xiuyu chose mercy."

Nick didn't argue this time. He just stood silently, taking it all in.

"Are you really not going to help the military, Carol?"

She didn't answer. She simply rose higher into the night sky and vanished like a comet.

---

"Where's Su Xiuyu?"

"Hudson River Estuary."

In less than a minute, Carol was above the Hudson, scanning the waters below. Her cosmic senses quickly detected a hidden energy barrier cloaking Penglai Island.

Then—flash.

A figure shimmered into existence before her, calm and radiant. Carol's heart skipped.

"Long time no see, Carol," Su Xiuyu said, his smile just as gentle as she remembered. "What brings you back?"

She didn't answer.

Instead, she flew straight into his arms.

"I missed you," she whispered.

She had imagined this moment so many times, rehearsed it, feared rejection. But now that she was here—she wouldn't hold back.

"I missed you too," Su Xiuyu replied… but there was a hint of awkwardness in his voice.

"I should tell you… I'm married now. I have two wives."

Carol's heart sank. For a moment, she couldn't breathe.

But then—"Two?"

Su Xiuyu blinked. "Yeah?"

"…Why two?"

"Don't tell me the Kree are monogamous," he joked.

"I… I never really asked."

Su Xiuyu smiled again, that same gentle smile. "Because I loved both of them. So I married them both."

------------------------

Su Xiuyu's blunt honesty left Carol speechless. He had a point—if he loved both women, then why couldn't he marry both?

"You're not from Earth, are you?" she asked, narrowing her eyes.

"Not really. I'm from another planet—or more accurately, another universe," Su Xiuyu admitted calmly.

Carol seemed to catch onto something but didn't dig further. Su Xiuyu didn't hide the truth this time—he no longer needed to. His power was more than enough to protect himself.

A moment of silence lingered awkwardly between them. Carol had said what she came to say, but there was still tension in the air.

"Alright, I get it. How about we fight?" she suddenly proposed.

"Huh?" Su Xiuyu blinked. Was she seriously picking a fight just because her confession didn't work out?

"I'm upset. Let me vent. What's wrong with sparring in outer space?" Carol raised an eyebrow, clearly not taking no for an answer.

"…Fine," Su Xiuyu sighed, resigned.

A radiant beam of light erupted from Carol's body as she shot into the sky like a comet.

Su Xiuyu activated his Six Paths Mode, calmly opened a space gate, and stepped through it—floating in the cold silence of outer space as he waited for her.

"I can't believe the first thing you do after so long is throw punches at me," he muttered, watching Carol glow like a sun as she arrived.

"You never know what a woman's thinking," she replied, golden light dancing around her. "Also, white hair? Kinda hot. Don't hold back, pretty boy."

She raised both hands, launching a searing energy blast straight at Su Xiuyu.

He countered by forming a shield of Truth-Seeking Orbs, calmly blocking the beam.

"Oh?" Carol smirked. "Haven't seen that trick before. Let's see what happens if I turn it up."

She unleashed more power, the golden beam thickening and destroying a kilometer-wide chunk of space debris before slamming into his defense. But the shield held firm, unmoving.

"Tch… fine. Let's do this the old-fashioned way."

Carol vanished in a flash and reappeared in front of him, throwing a punch toward his face—only to hesitate at the last second and redirect the strike toward his chest instead. That face was just too annoyingly good-looking.

Su Xiuyu conjured a staff to block the blow, but her strength still sent him tumbling through space.

Seeing that he could take it, Carol grinned and followed up with a flurry of punches, forcing him to retreat all the way to the moon.

At first, she'd only wanted to let off steam. But the longer they fought, the more frustrated she became. None of her attacks were landing with any real effect.

"I underestimated you…" she muttered—but the words vanished into the void of space.

Su Xiuyu, watching her lips, sighed and sent a thought directly into her mind using spiritual energy. You do realize sound doesn't travel in space, right?

Carol paused, blinked, then focused. A moment later, she mimicked his technique and connected with him mentally.

This is better than a Kree comm system, she said.

It depends on talent. Most people don't have the mental strength to use it, Su Xiuyu replied.

The battle resumed. Fists and feet clashed in silence. The moon's surface cracked and cratered under their blows, throwing debris into orbit.

Back on Earth, Nick Fury leaned back in Tony Stark's luxurious couch, watching a shaky satellite feed of the battle via Tony's orbital camera system. The video quality was awful—but the chaos was unmistakable.

Crater after crater, shockwaves visible even from Earth.

"Nick," Tony frowned, watching the destruction unfold, "this is what you meant by 'they're on good terms'? They're tearing each other apart!"

Nick shrugged, arms behind his head. "Relax. This is foreplay."

Tony squinted at the screen. "Wait—so they're still… involved?"

"Maybe. Maybe not. Who knows? But you know what they say—hell hath no fury."

Tony sighed. "Superpowered couples are the worst."

Back on the moon, Su Xiuyu unleashed an enhanced Shinra Tensei, blasting Carol away with a surge of gravitational force.

But Carol recovered in a flash, appearing behind him mid-attack. Just as she threw her punch, two mechanical arms extended from Su Xiuyu's back—Jigokudo, the Asura Path. They grabbed her wrists mid-swing.

The mechanical limbs quickly morphed into a compact chakra cannon aimed right at her abdomen.

"This is—!"

Before she could finish, the cannon fired, launching her across the lunar surface in an explosion of light and dust.

Even Carol had to admit—this guy was something else.

"He's not just strong—he's got tricks for days," she muttered, brushing herself off.

Su Xiuyu floated nearby, concerned. "I thought I couldn't hurt you, so I didn't hold back. You okay?"
