Chapter 144 - Chapter 144: Clearing the Beast

"All Uchiha, prepare Fire Style jutsu for close-range engagement! Hold your ground and don't let the beasts break the line!"

After the devastating volley of explosive tags, over sixty percent of the beasts had already fallen. Many still crawled forward—some dragging ruined limbs, others twitching with severed torsos—but their fate was sealed.

As long as the momentum of the beast tide was broken, cleanup would be swift.

"Fire Style – Great Fireball Technique!"

"Fire Style – Fire Dragon Flame Bullet!"

"Fire Style – Dragon Fire Technique!"

Dozens of Fire Jutsu erupted simultaneously across the battlefield, painting the sky in hues of crimson and gold. The front ranks of the mutant horde were instantly engulfed—some charred where they stood, others blasted apart mid-charge. The unlucky ones were reduced to flaming carcasses, collapsing in burning heaps.

At Yangcheng's city gate, Lei Gang and the guards stared in stunned awe. Even Lei Gang—who had seen his share of combat—was speechless. These weren't just superpowered individuals. This was a fully coordinated ninja unit, wielding techniques that put their best espers to shame.

The most famous fire-user in the Nation couldn't hold a candle to even a mid-level Uchiha. The difference in combat efficiency was like comparing a campfire to a forest blaze.

Envy flickered in Lei Gang's chest. But he also knew—deep down—that these warriors weren't from his world.

As the firestorm subsided, the Uchiha advanced into the field, swiftly transitioning to close-quarters combat. Their speed, precision, and coordination made them near untouchable. Against beasts driven by instinct and rage, the Uchiha fought like predators among prey.

Their superiority was obvious. Mutant animals—no matter how large or vicious—struggled to land a single blow. Each ninja danced between enemies, blades flashing and chakra crackling.

Ninjutsu, shuriken techniques, and taijutsu flowed in deadly harmony. The battlefield was a showcase of ninja assassination prowess, where raw power met refined skill.

"They're wiping them out faster than our artillery…" one of the guards muttered.

"They're Uchiha," Su Xiuyu's clone said casually to Lei Gang. "This is a small-scale operation for them."

Lei Gang gave a dry laugh, still stunned.

But then the ground trembled.

Without warning, the earth in the distance buckled and split. Something massive was surfacing—rising from below like a nightmare come to life.

A massive, worm-like beast erupted from the soil, towering nearly 15 meters tall. Its bulk cast a long shadow across the field.

"Oh no… it's a burrower!" Lei Gang paled. "Everyone fall back!"

The creature's rough, rock-like hide gleamed under the sun. Jagged teeth lined its circular maw, cilia wriggling across its body like tiny feelers. This was no ordinary mutant. It was a subterranean apex predator.

"Brother Xiuyu," Lei Gang said urgently, "they should retreat. Burrowers are beyond anything those beasts can handle. Even tank shells struggle to pierce their hide!"

Su Xiuyu studied the creature calmly, recalling a similar monster from his past life—StarCraft's tunneling Zerg. But this one wasn't a transport unit. It was a hunter.

"How do you normally handle it?"

"Honestly? We don't," Lei Gang replied bitterly. "Most burrowers run the moment they're attacked. Once underground, they're nearly untouchable. Missiles and artillery can't hit them if they're moving fast enough."

"Our current weapons are built for surface or aerial combat. Aquatic? Maybe. Underground? Hopeless. Unless the Academy of Sciences comes up with something new, we're stuck."

Su Xiuyu nodded. "Makes sense. Most weapons are designed to kill humans—not earth-dwelling kaiju."

"We don't even know if this thing is native," Lei Gang added. "Could be from another dimension. We're just lucky they rarely show up. Last time one did, we lost 13 soldiers. 28 wounded."

The pain in his voice was real.

The Uchiha, undeterred, launched a barrage of shuriken. Dozens of blades pierced the worm's hide—yet it didn't flinch. Some bounced off entirely. Despite its spiked appearance, it was surprisingly mobile.

The Uchiha responded with Fire Style jutsu, flames roaring across the worm's body. It screeched in rage and slithered fully from its hole.

BOOM!

Its massive tail slammed into the ground like a meteor, sending a shockwave across the field. Several nearby Uchiha were knocked into the air—only to vanish mid-flight in a puff of smoke.

"They were shadow clones," Su Xiuyu said coolly. "Standard recon technique."

The burrower seemed confused by its enemies vanishing. It had never encountered prey like this before.

Shisui's voice cut through the chaos. "Chunin, fall back! Prioritize cleanup of lesser beasts. Jonin, prepare for assault!"

The Uchiha had gauged the creature's strength. It was formidable—about half the power of Orochimaru's mandarin summon—but it was still just a beast.

Five elite Jonin stepped forward.

Uchiha Arakawa drew his blade. He was the sharpest among them in swordsmanship—second only to Shisui. Around him, Uchiha Horii, San, Watanabe, and Takashima prepared their coordinated assault.

"Fire Style – Great Fire Annihilation!"

"Lightning Style – Ground Current!"

"Wind Style – Wind Cutter!"

Fire engulfed the worm's upper body, slowing its advance. Lightning surged beneath its body, locking its movements in place. Wind release struck with surgical precision, slicing open one of its degenerate eyes.

The beast shrieked in agony.

"Uchiha Sword Style – Lightning Flash!"

Arakawa's chakra-infused blade crackled with lightning. With a single leap, he drove the sword into the creature's second eye.

CRACK!

The blade pierced deep, slicing through hardened flesh and muscle. Electricity surged inward. The worm convulsed violently before crashing to the earth with a thunderous thud.

It was over.

Another victory—clean, efficient, decisive.

If not for their desire to avoid casualties, a single Jonin could have handled it alone.

-----------------------

From a distance, Lei Gang watched the battle end in awe, like an excited child witnessing a miracle.

"Brother Xiuyu! Could you ask them to preserve the burrower's body?" he said eagerly. "This might be the first intact burrowing beast in the entire country—maybe even the world! If we study it, Yangcheng will be the pride of the nation!"

It was a reasonable request.

Without hesitation, Su Xiuyu (wooden clone) opened a spatial rift. A glowing portal swirled open—and with a thunderous boom, the massive carcass of the burrower dropped gently to the ground in front of Lei Gang, shaking the earth like an earthquake.

"There," Xiuyu said calmly. "It's yours now. Study it, preserve it, or burn it—do as you please."

Lei Gang blinked in confusion. "Wait... how did it get here so fast?"

Then realization struck. "Brother Xiuyu, did you just teleport that thing here? This beast must weigh hundreds of tons!"

"Roughly, yes," Xiuyu said flatly.

Now that he saw the burrower up close, even Su Xiuyu had to admit—it was ugly. The creature was three meters in diameter and nearly thirty meters long. It looked like a monstrous, bloated centipede fused with a tunnel drill.

Its cilia were like thick steel rods.

Lei Gang couldn't resist. He pulled a dagger and slashed at one of the thick hairs—clang!

Sparks burst into the air.

"This thing's body hair is basically steel!" he exclaimed. "No wonder tanks couldn't take it down!"

Now it made perfect sense. A regular shell would barely scratch this monster. And the fact that an Uchiha Jonin had sliced it open with a sword? That man wasn't just strong—he was terrifying.

"Seeing it up close… it really is a spectacle," Lei Gang muttered, genuinely impressed.

Su Xiuyu raised a brow. "Do you have a transport vehicle strong enough to move it?"

That question immediately dampened Lei Gang's enthusiasm.

"Well… the largest military heavy truck in Yangcheng can handle about 200 tons. And this beast… yeah, it's probably over the limit."

"So in other words, no," Xiuyu replied flatly. "Fine. If you need to move it again, I'll help."

Meanwhile, the Uchiha clan had already finished clearing most of the battlefield. A few scattered beasts lingered on the edges, but the sight of their fallen kin was enough to discourage further attacks.

"Lei Gang, your forces can stand down now," Xiuyu added. "Let my people handle the cleanup."

"That seems a little unfair, doesn't it?" Lei Gang scratched his head. "We're already troubling them so much."

"It's fine," Xiuyu said with a smirk. "None of them would dare disobey me."

And he wasn't lying.

To the Uchiha, Su Xiuyu wasn't just a commander. He was a living legend—their honored ancestor. Who would argue with a god?

Even Uchiha Shisui had stopped holding back.

In the next moment, a shimmering ribcage of chakra materialized around Shisui, growing rapidly into a towering warrior of light.

Susanoo.

The ten-meter-tall figure wielded a blade of pure chakra, cleaving through hordes of mutant beasts like wheat before a scythe. The battlefield was no longer a battle—it was a performance. Shisui's Susanoo moved with elegance and ferocity, ending the conflict in minutes.

What began as a joint effort quickly became a one-man show. And everyone—soldiers, guards, even other Uchiha—stood back to watch in awe.

Susanoo was, without a doubt, a battlefield-killing machine.

When it was over, Shisui stood tall within his ethereal armor, victorious.

"All right!" Lei Gang clapped. "Clean up, then we feast! No one's going home until they're full!"

The cheers erupted instantly. For most of the Secret Service guards, surviving to see another day was a luxury. Today, there had been zero casualties—a rarity.

Thanks to the Uchiha, they'd won without losing a single man.

"Today, we drink in honor of our brothers!" Lei Gang announced. "If they hadn't arrived when they did, we'd all be nursing wounds right now!"

At the banquet that night, Shisui sat beside Su Xiuyu, clearly uncomfortable.

Su Xiuyu leaned closer. "You can eat the food," he whispered, "but don't touch the wine."

Shisui immediately nodded with a grateful smile.

Despite the laughter and celebration, the Uchiha remained reserved. Most of them were unfamiliar with this world, and with their ancestor watching, none wanted to lose face. Even in peace, their pride remained intact.

The Next Morning

BANG BANG BANG!

Loud knocking shook the front door of Lei Gang's house at dawn.

"Who the hell knocks this early…?" he grumbled, pulling on a jacket. As he opened the door, he was surprised to see a group of serious-looking men in white lab coats.

One of them—an elderly man with gentle eyes—stepped forward.

"Are you Lei Gang, Director of the Yangcheng Special Service Bureau?"

"I am. Who are you?"

"I'm a researcher from the capital," the old man said warmly. "We received your report about the burrower you captured. A perfectly preserved specimen, possibly the only one in existence. We chartered a military flight overnight just to see it."

He bowed slightly.

"We were hoping to begin our study immediately. This creature… it could change everything we know about mutation phenomena."

Lei Gang raised a brow. "You've come a long way. At least let me offer you breakfast?"

"No need! We ate en route," the old man waved him off. "We'd like to begin right away."

"Fair enough. Give me a minute to change—I can't meet scientists looking like a bum."

---

Soon after, the researchers stood before the burrower's corpse. The younger scientists were visibly trembling with excitement. If the cilia hadn't been so sharp, a few of them might've hugged the thing on the spot.

One pulled out an electric saw and began cutting.

Sparks flew immediately. Even with industrial tools, it took effort to sever just one cilium.

"Just as we expected," the lead researcher said. "These hairs have metallic density rivaling reinforced steel."

Another tried to cut through the skin.

No luck.

Even the industrial-grade cutting machine barely left a scratch. The outer shell was tougher than expected—but no one was disappointed.

If anything, the challenge thrilled them.

"The laser cutter should arrive within the hour," the old man smiled.
