It was past midnight in Eldrida kingdom,
The castle stood tall under the starry night sky. The stone walls glistening faintly under the full moonlight. It was eeriely quiet. The chirping of birds could be heard from a distance.
The hallways was covered in thick darkness except the candle lights that was slowly flickering leaving a small brightness in the dark.
In Lucas and Catherine's chamber,
Catherine was still sleeping peacefully until for some unknown reasons, she suddenly woke up with a full force making her gasp in horror and shock.
She rubbed her eyes so she couldn't see clearly in the darkness.
She turned to the side of the bed and was surprised to see Lucas laying there sleeping.
"When did he come back? And why didn't he wake her up?" She thought and as if she was been called,
She slowly got down from the bed and picked up her robes and wore it before putting on her shoes.
She walked towards the door and opened it, stepping outside to the calling darkness.
The moment she stepped outside.
She suddenly shivered from the thick cold that cloaked her.
She froze on the spot without saying anything wrapping her hands around herself as if protecting her self.
She slowly whispered,
"Who is there?"
No response, her heart began to race uncontrollably as she couldn't understand what was happening. She has found her self awake and walking through the dark and quite hallway of the castle. The dimly lit corridors gave suddenly been dark and she couldn't help but ask softly and wearily,
"Anyone there?" She asked again, fear gripping at her heart as she couldn't hear any sounds.
Just as she walking,
She suddenly heard a deep, masculine c, cold voice that sent cood icy chills down her spine.
"The devil has come to visit. "
Lady Catherine froze on the spot as her heart began to palpitate ferociously in fear and nervousness. Did she hear right? Or was her mind playing tricky games with her? She thought fearfully as she didn't dare turn back to see the person claiming to be the devil.
Is it truly the devil? She thought and closed her eyes tightly hoping and praying it shouldn't be so. Could it be the devil from ancient of days? Is it still the same devil that rebel against the Almighty decades ago?
She kept hoping and praying quietly until she heard that deep familiar voice that made her heart skipped multiple beats.
"Cathy?" Lucas called out her name as he suddenly approached her, he snapped his fingers and candle lights were turned on.
Catherine's eyes widened in disbelief as she didn't expect her husband to bring back the dead lights.
He slowly approached her before standing in front of her.
He suddenly cupped her both cheeks and asked worriedly,
"Why are you out here all alone?" He asked his dark black grey eyes stared intently at her. The moment he was sleeping, he suddenly felt a whoosh of air passed him by jolting him awake and when he wanted to check up on his wife, he suddenly realized she wasn't on the bed.
He became worried and wore his mask before coming out of the room in search of her. While he was looking for her, he suddenly saw her silhouette and went after her only to see her standing rooted to the ground, her body was trembling slightly and he couldn't help but worry that some idiot had caused her some fear.
Catherine eyes widened when she saw her husband and she didn't know what else to do at that moment than to throw her self in her husband's embrace.
Lucas hugged her back tightly, stroking her hair softly.
"I'm sorry for over sleeping. I should have protected you. " He whispered on her head.
Lady Catherine pulled away and smiled.
"It's fine, let's go back in and sleep. Tomorrow is the ritual. " She said calmly and Lucas eyes gleamed in amusement at how his wife turn from being afraid to being happy again. His silly scaredy cat wife.
With that, he held her hand as they went back to their room.
Unknown to them,
The devil who had appeared suddenly came out from his hiding spot. He hadn't said a word to that human girl because he had sensed his domineering presence from afar. But for some reason, the devil felt something was off with her husband and that human girl, most especially that human girl. Something was definitely off about them.
He walked round the hallway for a short while before vanishing into thin air.
Lucas entwined his fingers with his wife as they entered their chamber and went to sit on the bed.
"Wife, you have to be careful especially at night. You know my family are vampires. " He said slowly stroking their entwined hands.
Lady Catherine nodded sheepishly and slowly raised her other hand to pull out his mask to suddenly reveal his handsome ethereal face.
If his face can't be seen during the day as a daylight monster, at least she could see his face in the night, as a charming Prince. She thought with a smile while Lucas kept staring at her.
Her onyx black eyes was so clear he could see through her and read her mind. Though he knew she was nervous about him sometimes, but he admires her courageous way of approaching him or talking to him. It makes him deeply pleased and he cupped both her cheeks after removing his hand from their entwined hands.
"Wife, it's late, get some rest. Since tomorrow is the ritual, you need to get adequate rest. " He said calmly and Catherine didn't argue and just lay on the bed. Lucas watched his wife lay on the bed and for some strange reasons, his Adam Apple bobbed up and down which didn't escape Catherine's eyes.
Her heart skipped a beat.
She closed her eyes and tried to sleep but for some unknown reason she couldn't comprehend, her mind went back to that cold deep masculine voice that said,
"I'm the devil". Whose voice could it be? She thought with a deep sigh.
