Chapter 55 - Chapter 55 : Do Words Hold Power

Cersei stood frozen in place, her heart racing as chaos unfolded before her eyes. Thor stood tall in the center, his red cloak fluttering in the wind, Mjolnir crackling with leftover lightning in his grip.

He brought forth the lightning from the sky and burned half of the city guards alive. By the Seven, this was the first time she saw something like this, and her heart was almost ready to beat out of her chest.

No one dared move. The guards left standing had dropped their weapons. Fear had gripped their hearts. Thor didn't move after that, but even his gaze was making their backs crawl and tense up.

Then, he spoke. His voice rang loud and clear over the silence. "Lay down your weapons," he said, "and you have my word that no harm will come to anyone here."

Some guards dropped their swords immediately. Others hesitated only a moment before following. No one wanted to face the wrath of a man who could summon the sky itself.

Cersei watched him scan the crowd, like he was looking for someone. While defended by guards, both she and Joffrey were still easily visible for him to notice, and thus he was looking for someone else.

But who?

However, her breath caught as his eyes landed on Joffrey after he seemed not to find whoever he was looking for. For a moment, she feared he might strike. Her body tensed; this fear was far greater than when she saw thunder strike from the sky when he burned those city guards alive.

She was ready to scream, do anything to save her boy—but Thor didn't move toward her son.

Instead, he turned his gaze to her suddenly.

His stare was cold. Piercing. Like a predator eyeing its prey. For a heartbeat, Cersei felt as if her life hung by a thread. She stiffened. She was sure that he would bring down thunder on her head anytime. His eyes told her so.

However, that didn't happen either; in fact, without a word, he turned away.

Thor began to walk toward the gates, leaving behind stunned silence and a city too afraid to stop him.

Cersei could only stand there, her heart pounding in her chest, shaken and confused. Half disbelieving what just happened and half numb to her own breathing, to the fact that she lived.

She saw him go away, just like that, without any demands, no more bloodshed, no words.

Little did she know that words have power.

Can't blame her though; I learned about it today myself. She, in fact, should be grateful that those words I said in my ignorance saved them—they saved her and her bastard son.

Remembering the feeling of that utter pressure around me when I even so much as thought about acting against anyone in King's Landing after I gave my word to not harm them was terrible.

As I got out of the gutter of a city, I was only pondering how foolish I was to not see the signs which were in front of me.

From the personality change to the way I feel conflicted every time I try to contradict Thor's personality, it should have been obvious. However, this was the first time I firsthand saw Thor's personality completely overpower mine.

'Why now though? There has to be a reason behind why it suddenly acted like that.'

'You gave your word...'

Those words still ring in my ears like telling me the reason why this happened now.

'Word...'

Does my word really mean that much? Was it just Thor's personality which lashed out when his honor and pride were at stake? If so, then can he even make me unworthy?

Or was it something else? Could it be that Mjolnir started to reject me the moment I planned to attack anyone there, because I was going back on my word?

First, I wished to go after Joffrey of all people, and I felt that uncomfortable feeling so I unconsciously changed my target to Cersei, even going as far as readying myself to throw Mjolnir at her—and that's when I felt pressure building around me, while Mjolnir got heavier.

While getting out of the city, I once again thought of attacking a city guard to test out my theory, and that feeling was back again. Not as intense, but it was back nonetheless.

'I won't go after him, you have my word.' I told that to Robert before he died.

'Lay down your weapons and no harm shall come to any of you, you have my word.' And that was what I said in the city to stop those soldiers.

Thus, that means that I could go after them once I leave the city and this particular incident passes. At least that's what I meant when I said those words.

Could it be that there is some sort of magical contract taking place when I give my word? It's not impossible seeing how Odin puts his runes with just words, or how Thor in the fourth movie was able to share his power through Zeus' lightning bolt by just incantation of words.

Before I even knew it, I was out of the city with my hands clenched in frustration at the situation.

If it were just my own actions which threatened to cause my unworthiness, then I could handle that—after all, I just gotta be a man of my word, follow those knightly virtues. However, if my earlier suspicions that it was Thor's own personality causing this are true, then I might have bigger trouble on my hands.

I just hope that if it's indeed Thor, then it's MCU Thor post his first movie—at least he'll be easy to deal with.

It was indeed frustrating; not only did I not find Varys—Odin knows where that eunuch has buried himself—I couldn't even take down either Joffrey or Cersei.

Sigh. At least Stark got out of there, something going in my favor.

Tightening my grip around my hammer, I sped up. Gotta reach Stark and then catch up to the girls.

Even though we didn't specify a meeting place, I knew that he would be near the stables, which indeed was the case. He had already secured a steed for himself.

"Thor, where are my daughters…" Ned Stark had many questions the way he looked at me and asked; however, the only thing his heart wished to know was the safety of his daughters.

Unfortunately for him though, he owed me a punch to his face.

"Worry not Stark, you'll see them soon."

As soon as he opened his mouth and asked this, I was upon him, already swinging my arm back, making a fist and trying my damndest to hold back to not kill the fool.

Crack…

That sound definitely didn't arise any motivation inside me, nor the way he fell back, completely knocked out.

However, his still-breathing form ensured that all that effort to save him wasn't for nothing.

Though he might be out for a good while.

And that's when I realised that maybe hitting him on his face once we met the girls and got further away from here would have been better.

Now, I have to carry his body all the way to them… Sigh.

At least by the time he wakes up, he'll indeed see his daughters, so I didn't lie there.
