Chapter 167 - Chapter 167: The Biker Gang

"You'll get your chance too. Judging by your luck so far, kid, I wouldn't be surprised if you can exchange League points for a Dragonite egg one of these days."

Professor Oak teased him — though half of that was serious. He truly believed Silas had a very bright future.

Silas nodded slightly.

"Alright then, let's head off." Oak turned and led the way out of Exeggutor Forest. Silas quickly followed.

The forest was unusually quiet, not a trace left of those normally shrieking Exeggutor.

"Professor, you mentioned there's also a kind of evolution rock covered in ice?" Silas asked along the way.

Oak had been talking nonstop about Eevee evolution since they left — quoting legends one moment, citing statistical research papers the next. As expected of Professor Oak, a true fountain of knowledge.

Silas just so happened to know about another Eevee evolution that required a special ice rock and took the chance to ask.

"Yes," Oak confirmed. "From what we just witnessed, if that moss rock truly works, a similarly special ice-covered one very likely will too.

Unfortunately no one ever thought to test that theory."

Pokémon evolution research, just like the technology back on Earth, often came down to endless data and repeated trials. But the final breakthrough always seemed to need that one small spark — a moment of inspiration.

Once that spark came though, all previous work could be assembled at lightning speed.

"And if that's true, your contribution will be enormous!" Oak praised.

"Big enough to trade in for a pseudo-legendary egg?" Silas asked, clearly excited.

Oak shot him a sideways glare. "Don't push your luck. Even with two new evolution types unlocked that wouldn't be enough. You'd need three or four at least. This time you were just absurdly lucky — you think such easy discoveries grow on trees?"

Heh, maybe not for most people, Silas thought inwardly. But for me…?

Worst case, he still had that fossil secret sitting in reserve. That alone would be enough for a pseudo-legendary — maybe even two, if he squeezed hard enough. But he wasn't ready to expose it just yet.

"Wahoooo!!"

A pack of local delinquents on bikes stormed past them, yelling hysterically.

"Boss, are we not gonna mess with those two?" one younger member asked the red-haired girl in front waving a chain over her head while riding. Clearly the gang leader.

"What's there to mess with? They look like two sick old men. Listen up, boys — even we need to have dreams, y'know?!" the redhead shouted back arrogantly.

"But Boss, isn't it Big Brother James's birthday today? Shouldn't we prepare a gift?" another goon asked.

"Prepare? Prepare my ass!" barked the red-head, obviously bad-tempered.

The punks shrank down — Boss Jessie was scary as always.

"By the way," Jessie said, twirling her chain, "you boys seen that recruitment ad from Team Rocket lately?"

"Yeah! Their benefits are amazing. But… doesn't look like we'd ever pass their entry tests…" someone sighed.

"Boss Jessie, you're totally qualified and so is Big Bro James!" said the slicker underling.

"Yeah yeah!!" the others chimed in.

Jessie snorted but said nothing more.

Silas, wholly unaware that he had just brushed by several familiar faces from the future, continued chatting with Professor Oak.

"I think I've heard of that James fellow," Oak mused. "Didn't he just get expelled from Pokémon Tech?"

He shook his head. Students who didn't like to study always made him sigh — not out of dislike, but pity.

"Ahh, no wonder Mr. Blaine has been in such a bad mood lately…" Silas muttered.

"Professor Oak, were you two close back in the day?"

"Blaine was always brilliant when it came to pokémon theory," Oak answered casually. But clearly he wasn't in the mood to say more.

Silas wisely dropped the topic.

After walking awhile down the rich cobblestone road, a sprawling estate appeared up ahead.

Silas silently groaned — why do I keep meeting richer and richer people lately…?

"Excuse me!! COMING THROUGH!!"

A Purplish-blue-haired young man on a bicycle — ridiculously fitted with training wheels — loudly shouted as he wobbled past them, racing straight into the mansion gates.

Silas and Oak watched, dumbfounded.

"Young Master James is home!" "Master Kojirō is back!" servants cried from within the Sasaki estate.

Only then did Silas and Oak realize — the person who had just toppled past them was actually James Sasaki... the heir of the family throwing today's banquet.

Silas, however, was silently far more stunned by the boy's infant-level biking skills.

"Let's go in," Oak said, snapping back to business. Even he rolled his eyes slightly.

At the gate, Silas presented his invitation — Oak didn't need to. Who wouldn't recognize Professor Oak?

And besides, even criminal syndicates wouldn't dare try impersonating him.

Silas followed behind the butler, glancing around curiously.

While this estate wasn't as large as the one frequented by the Eevee family, it did differ in one respect — aside from the servants, there were only three residents here: James himself, and his mother and father.

"Excuse me… what's that two-story villa over there used for?" Silas couldn't help asking the butler. He had his suspicions, but still wanted to make sure — perhaps torturing himself intentionally.

"Villa?" the butler blinked and glanced in the direction Silas pointed. "Ah… that…"

Before he could finish, an elegant husband and wife suddenly cut in with theatrical timing:

"Since you've asked so sincerely…"

"We will be magnanimous and tell you…"

"That building is my darling son's beloved companion's residence…"

"It belongs to his most precious partner, Growlie!"

The couple delivered their lines perfectly in sync.

"Oho! What a delightful rhythm as always, Mr. and Mrs. Sasaki," Professor Oak said fondly — clearly used to this.

Silas, meanwhile, stood stiff with embarrassment. Is this banter inherited?!

Still, he politely greeted them. "How do you do, Mr. Sasaki, Mrs. Sasaki. I'm Silas Alaric, a student of Professor Blaine."

"Welcome, Professor Oak! Your presence honors our home."

"And young Mr. Silas, you're most welcome — please enjoy yourself tonight!" The Sasaki couple instantly returned to their refined demeanor, as if those earlier lines had never happened.

Silas felt momentarily dizzy.

"Butler, please continue welcoming guests at the entrance; we shall personally entertain these two distinguished visitors," Mr. Sasaki said.

The butler bowed and withdrew.

Soon, the four of them arrived at the banquet hall.

After some polite chat, Professor Oak smiled: "You two must be busy hosting your son's coming-of-age celebration. Please, don't worry about us."

The Sasakis looked visibly relieved. "Well then, we shall leave you at ease. Young Mr. Silas — I've heard your uncle sing your praises often. Now that I've met you, I see he wasn't exaggerating. My son should be around your age — perhaps you two will have much to discuss later?"

Silas thanked them politely, and the couple departed.

Professor Oak glanced at Silas attempting to inch toward him and snorted, "Go on — find someone your own age. I won't babysit you."

"Heh-heh…" Silas escaped hurriedly — with the way everyone stared at Professor Oak, he would rather not be within the blast zone.

Sure enough, once Silas slipped away, a crowd instantly surrounded Oak.

"Yo, you're here too?" Several familiar voices called out.

"Long time no see," Silas said with a raised glass of red wine. It was Tetsuo, Hayata, Kajiyama and other heirs.

As one of the most influential families in Kanto, the Sasakis naturally maintained ties with heirs of Gym Leaders, Elite Four families, and major investors. James's coming-of-age banquet was a perfect networking opportunity.

So naturally, these kids had received invitations too.

"Let's battle sometime — stop hiding." Hazakura grinned.

"In your dreams. Wait for the League Conference," Silas rolled his eyes. He wasn't doing exhibition duels at someone else's banquet — relaxing was far nicer.

They chatted casually — kids their age obviously had more in common with each other than with the stuffy businessmen present.

"Now, let us welcome tonight's guest of honor — Sasaki James!"

Mr. and Mrs. Sasaki walked out, proudly escorting their son, who was dressed in a black tailcoat.

This is nothing like that biker outfit or Team Rocket prototype uniform from before… Silas marvelled.

Still, James carried himself with elegance befitting a noble heir.

"James! From today onward — you are mine! "

An aggressive red-haired girl nearby silas suddenly declared with full confidence .
