Chapter 161 - Chapter 161: The Apothecary in Mossdew Town

Pyro was off to the side, teasing an Eevee.

As the third son of the Eevee family, he was naturally very familiar with these little creatures and often came here to play with them.

"All done," Silas suddenly said, his voice startling Pyro so much that he actually flinched.

"Huh? That fast?" Pyro exclaimed in disbelief. Realizing he sounded rude, he quickly added, "I mean, don't you want to take another look?"

"Relax. It's absolutely the right one," Silas replied confidently with a shrug, his tone leaving no room for doubt.

"If you say so. Which one is it?" Pyro asked.

Silas reached into the group of Eevee and lifted one up by the scruff of its neck.

The Eevee blinked in confusion, as if fate had grabbed it by the neck—it looked a bit stunned and totally at a loss.

Thankfully, Eevee have gentle personalities and aren't wild Pokémon, so handling them like this was acceptable.

"Vee?"

The little Eevee let out a soft cry. Why are you picking me up like this?

"This little one looks like it blends in well with the group, always playing with the other Eevee, but in reality, it's very alert and has been circling around me cautiously.

And from its gait and the development of its legs, I'd say its Ability is most likely Run Away, not Adaptability.

Also, judging by the gloss, length, and texture of its fur and from the way the other Eevee treat it—it's probably one of the younger or more timid ones in the group. That means it's more cared for and probably more introverted.

After all, Eevee are not known for bullying their own kind.

Beyond that, the mane around its neck is exceptionally well-groomed, clearly something it's been taking care of itself. The same goes for the white tip of its tail. Based on these observations, I can conclude…"

Even though Pyro trusted Silas completely, he still appreciated a solid explanation.

As Silas launched into a technical analysis, Pyro stared at him blankly, eventually raising both hands in surrender. "Okay, okay, I give up. This is way too much detail. I'll take your word for it. Let me go tell my big brothers so we can take them to Mikey's room and have him pick."

Saying that, he pulled up his wristwatch and started typing out a message.

Silas brought the chosen Eevee up to eye level and looked it in the face.

"Veee~"

The Eevee shyly covered its face with its tiny forepaws—but they were too short to do much good.

While Silas continued teasing it, Pyro finished sending the message. "Let's go, let's go! We'll head straight to Mikey's room. Big bro and second bro are already on their way."

He grabbed Silas by his free arm and pulled him toward the door.

Silas adjusted his grip on the Eevee, now holding it properly in his arms.

As for Togepi, it had already been returned to its Luxury Ball to take a nap when they first entered the town.

"Mikey! Your third brother's here~!" Pyro called out excitedly as they arrived at the door of a separate house and pushed it open.

"Heh, Pyro, you're still as impatient as ever," chuckled a man with spiky golden-yellow hair, looking at Pyro.

"Yeah, no need to rush. In the end, Mikey has to make his own choice anyway," added another man with blue, fin-like hair, also smiling.

It looked like the two had arrived a while ago.

What kind of edgy hairstyles are these? Silas thought to himself. But at least they made it easy to tell who was who.

The one with yellow hair was clearly Sparky, the eldest brother with a Jolteon. The blue-haired one had to be Rainer, the second brother with a Vaporeon.

Their hairstyles seemed to mimic their Eeveelutions.

"You must be Silas Alaric. I've heard a lot about you."

Compared to the impatient Pyro, Sparky and Rainer were far more composed. When they saw Silas, they greeted him warmly.

To people like them, it was important to know the top talents from each Gym family and potential investment prospects. Silas, being outstanding, was certainly on their radar.

Silas responded with a smile of his own. What fame? I'm not that special, he thought.

"Bringing a guest without letting them rest? Pyro, that's not very polite. He came to help, and you didn't even give him a proper break," Sparky scolded his younger brother.

Pyro scratched his head sheepishly, completely unlike his usual fiery demeanor as a Fire-type trainer.

"We just finished picking. Pyro got excited and dragged me over," Silas said, catching the pleading look Pyro shot at him and smirking mischievously.

Pyro looked at Silas in disbelief.

"Hmph. I'll deal with you later," Sparky said coldly before heading inside. It seemed like he was just putting on a show, though.

"How could you sell me out like that? Now I'm doomed. Big bro is definitely going to give me a good 'training session' later," Pyro muttered to Silas as they trailed behind Sparky and Rainer.

"I saved you from more scolding," Silas chuckled.

Pyro rolled his eyes. Gee, thanks a lot.

The Eevee in Silas's arms looked curiously at the two odd humans.

"Is Mikey still in his room?" Sparky asked the butler nearby.

"Young Master, the little master just finished his studies. He should be in the dining room," the butler replied.

The group changed direction.

Wow, this place is huge, Silas thought. Mikey's house alone is bigger than that remote mansion I used to live in back in Viridian City.

Being rich must be nice, he sighed internally—although I guess I'm rich now too.

"Mikey, today's the big day! You get to pick your Eevee!" Pyro was the first to barge into the dining room, pushing open the door.

"Big Brother, Second Brother, Third Brother… and hello to you too, sir," a boy whose hairstyle looked almost exactly like Eevee's neck fur greeted them shyly and very politely.

Silas gave him a toothy grin. "Hey there, little Mikey."

Sparky and Rainer didn't waste time either. They each summoned their chosen Eevee from its Poké Ball and placed them on the table alongside the one in Silas's arms.

Three Eevee now sat side-by-side on the table, their back legs tucked under them, tails swishing.

"Come on, Mikey, make your choice!" Sparky said with flair.

Silas felt an odd sense of déjà vu watching the scene—though it would've been even weirder if all three Eevee were replaced with cute girls...

Nope. No no no.

He shook his head, realizing his thoughts were drifting into strange territory.

"I-I'll choose this little Eevee," Mikey said, pointing quickly after locking eyes with one.

It was exactly the same one Silas had picked out earlier.

"Oh yeah!!" Pyro pumped his fist excitedly, completely fired up.

Sparky and Rainer, however, tried to be more rational.

"You sure you don't want to take another look? Mikey, that was pretty hasty…" Rainer said.

"No, no, no—when your eyes meet and you form a bond right then and there, that's all that matters!"

Pyro cut in nervously from the side, clearly trying to influence the decision.

Mikey glanced at him and gave a small, firm nod. That only made Pyro even happier.

Sparky and Rainer exchanged glances and could only shrug in resignation.

The other two little Eevee, who had been brought out and had barely been on the scene for three minutes, were still recovering from the confusion before being returned to their Poké Balls.

"Please take care of me," Mikey said sincerely, reaching out a hand to the remaining Eevee.

"Vee~"

The Eevee narrowed its eyes affectionately, then hopped straight into Mikey's arms.

The two shy kids quickly warmed up to each other and started playing happily on the side.

Watching the heartwarming scene, the three older brothers were visibly pleased.

"Come on, there's a small dinner party tonight. Join us," Sparky invited Silas casually.

"Sure," Silas replied.

Only then did he realize that the sun had already set. He had spent so much time on the road, he hadn't noticed how late it had gotten.

And now that he thought about it, he was starving—so he didn't bother to refuse.

Early the next morning.

Sunlight poured into a warm, well-lit bedroom.

"Ugh..."

Silas groaned as he woke up, clutching his forehead. He felt a little dizzy.

A refreshing wave of verdant green energy drifted in from outside. It was his Snivy doing its regular morning training in the Grass Terrain it had created.

The moment he felt that familiar aura, Silas instantly felt more comfortable.

Last night, under the enthusiastic hospitality of the three Eevee brothers, Silas had been invited to their dinner party—and had been poured quite a lot of wine.

In fact, it was his first time drinking since arriving in this world. It had been red wine too, and it definitely had a bit of a kick.

He hadn't completely lost his senses, but... he definitely hadn't finished his usual studies last night either.

Still—he had to admit—it felt kind of nice to let go once in a while.

Stretching lazily while lying in bed, Silas eventually forced himself upright and dragged himself into the bathroom.

After a quick shower, he got dressed, packed his gear, and recalled the few Pokémon that had been training themselves outside.

It was time to move on—he still had things to do.

"You're leaving already?" Pyro called out, rushing in looking half-asleep. His hair was a mess too, clearly still suffering from the previous night's festivities.

"Yeah. I'm headed to Mossdew Town," Silas said casually as the two gave each other a quick hug.

"Ohh, going to see Granny Leshy, huh?" Pyro replied without surprise. He was clearly very familiar with the name.

Silas nodded. "Gonna try my luck. I think she still has a few slots left for the year."

"Might be slim pickings for Fire, Electric, or Water types though," Pyro warned. "We visited her not long ago and picked up a few supplies.

But as far as I know, she should still have stock for the other types."

That was actually great news for Silas.

The two walked together toward one of the other exits of the small town. When they reached the gate, Silas turned and said his final goodbyes.

"When Mikey turns 10 and gets his Trainer license, I'm definitely calling you again!" Pyro shouted from behind.

Silas simply raised his hand in acknowledgment and waved without turning back.

He recalled something Jirō had once told him:

"South of Stone Town, slightly to the left of Dark City, there's a small village called Mossdew Town.

It's a secluded town mostly composed of farmland—forests, crops, and largely self-sufficient villagers.

Living there is a woman who is, in every respect, a respected elder of the community—Granny Leshy.

Her specialty is crafting all kinds of potions and concoctions. Some of them can enhance a Pokémon's ability to control or sense energy.

Others are even more effective than the standard healing potions sold by the Nurse Joy family to the public.

Because of that, she's been honored with the title: Apothecary."
