Chapter 186 - Chapter 184 – Sirius!

A silent night.

A lonely Harry.

This was Crescent Street, a road near Privet Drive.

Beside a low wall was a strip of greenery, and in front of it stood a long bench.

Harry sat quietly on the bench.

Thinking back to what had just happened with the Dursleys was almost funny.

The three of them looked like they had just come back from a restaurant, touching their stomachs and smiling in satisfaction.

Dudley was only thirteen, yet from the looks of his growing bulk, he was well on track to surpass even his father—truly "the student surpassing the master."

Aunt Petunia was the first to notice Harry. At first she couldn't believe it, sneaking glances at him under the streetlamp several times before finally confirming it.

"Oh my, it's Harry!" she shrieked in a falsely sweet voice.

"Don't tell me you got expelled from that ridiculous school of yours and now you want to come crawling back home, but you're too embarrassed to knock on the door so you're lurking around out here?"

Harry hadn't even reached for his wand before Uncle Vernon grabbed his babbling wife and son and dragged them away in terror.

The three disappeared quickly into the darkness.

But their voices could still be faintly heard.

"Why are you pulling me?" Petunia complained, trying to break free and turn back to say more spiteful things.

"Just go, just go," Vernon muttered, clearly the smarter one—he wanted no further involvement with a wizard.

…

Harry suddenly felt a strange prickling sensation on his neck, as if someone were watching him. But the street was empty, and none of the square houses showed even a glimmer of light.

Behind him was a narrow alley between a garage and a fence—pitch black.

"Lumos," Harry whispered. His wand lit up instantly, so bright he nearly had to shut his eyes.

He raised his wand high, illuminating the pebble-dashed walls and reflecting off the garage door.

And between the wall and the garage, Harry clearly saw a dark, massive shape with a pair of gleaming eyes.

It was a huge black stray dog—fierce-looking, but painfully thin.

The black dog stared at the light, astonished by Harry's spell.

It cautiously took a step toward him, moving slowly, trying its best not to appear threatening. It knew how frightening it looked right now.

But Harry's next reaction startled the dog.

"Ah! Brilliant!" Harry shouted. "This is exactly the kind of dog I've always wanted!"

"Come with me, I'll take you to Hogwarts—my school. Pets are allowed! Oh… you probably don't understand, but that's fine."

His acting was terrible—Harry knew that.

But he had never figured out how he was supposed to face his official godfather anyway.

What was he supposed to do if a second parent suddenly appeared?

Much better to pretend he didn't know anything.

He could just treat him like a husky.

Harry "excitedly" rubbed the dirty dog's head.

Sirius's heart jumped. His original plan had been to hide in the Forbidden Forest and wait for an opportunity to slip into Hogwarts.

But if he could enter with Harry, everything would become infinitely easier.

He could protect Harry—and catch Peter far more quickly.

So he barked twice.

Harry swore he would never let Sirius find out that he'd already known the truth at this moment—about the Animagus dog, and about his godfather.

"Alright, don't be afraid. I'm taking you to where I'm staying."

"Apparition."

Space twisted.

The two appeared inside a luxurious hall.

And the hall was full of people.

Sirius was still stunned by the spell Harry had just used—was that Apparition?

Harry was only in his second year…

Maybe he didn't need Sirius's protection after all, Sirius thought bitterly.

Only then did he notice all the people around them and began to panic, afraid someone might recognize him.

Where was this place? So many wizards, such strange décor…

Why had he never heard of anywhere like this before?

…

Hilton had just returned from a week's vacation and immediately resumed her work at the Broken Axe Inn.

No one actually likes going back to work.

But the Muggle employees at the Broken Axe definitely didn't think that way.

The wages were high, the workload minimal. The customers weren't picky like Muggles, and most chores were handled with magic—self-washing sinks, self-sweeping brooms…

The guests were eccentric—sometimes downright bizarre—but surprisingly easy to deal with.

But what they loved most was simply the fact that this was the Wizarding World.

Even though they couldn't personally use magic, the wizards didn't hide things from them, so every stray comment about magical schools, dragons, elixirs of immortality, or transmutation spells thrilled them endlessly.

This inn stood right at the crossroads between the wizard and Muggle worlds. Behind a certain door lay the true magical world they dreamed of.

Yet none of them dared to enter.

Years ago, an employee had secretly watched a wizard open the brick wall. Then he stole a guest's wand and tried to replicate it.

He died instantly—blue flames engulfed him, leaving nothing behind.

Only then did everyone realize how terrifying the magical contract they had signed truly was.

"Bellucci, did you hear? Something huge happened recently!" Hilton said excitedly to her coworker.

Both worked at the reception desk—smiling, friendly, the "sweet type."

Bellucci asked, "No, what happened? I haven't left the hotel at all."

Hilton puffed up proudly. "A murderer escaped! They said his name was Black. He killed thirteen people—one of them a policeman! Even the Prime Minister made an announcement saying that if anyone sees him, they should run immediately and call the authorities. Isn't it terrifying?"

Bellucci looked distracted. "Yes… very."

"I even told my mum not to go out—who knows what might happen! Bellucci, why do you look completely uninterested?"

Bellucci sighed and pulled a newspaper from under the counter.

"Is this the man you saw on TV?"

It was The Daily Prophet.

On the front page, a large moving photo showed a gaunt, wild-haired man blinking slowly at Hilton.

"SIRIUS BLACK STILL AT LARGE"

The Ministry of Magic confirmed today that Sirius Black has escaped Azkaban and remains at large. He is believed to be the most dangerous prisoner ever held there.

"We are doing everything we can to recapture Black," Minister Cornelius Fudge stated this morning. "We urge the wizarding community to remain calm."

Several members of the International Confederation of Wizards criticized Fudge for informing the Muggle Prime Minister.

"To be honest, you know I had no choice," Fudge snapped. "Black is a fugitive. Wizard or Muggle, anyone who encounters him is in danger. I asked the Prime Minister to make absolutely sure he does not reveal Black's true identity. And frankly, even if he did—who would believe him?"

Muggles were told that Black carried a gun—"a metal wand Muggles use to kill one another"—but the wizarding world knew that Black had murdered thirteen people with a single curse twelve years ago. Many feared another massacre.

Hilton stared at the photo. Those dark, brooding eyes were the only lively part of his gaunt face.

She had never met a vampire, but she had seen movies.

With that corpse-pale skin, Black looked exactly like one.

Her mouth hung open. "This…"

Bellucci said, "Clearly he's an evil wizard. The magical world informed the Muggle Prime Minister, but covered it up by saying he's a murderer."

Hilton sighed. "Suddenly our Prime Minister seems… kind of ordinary. Wizards clearly don't respect him at all, judging by this article. I wish I could be a witch…"

Bellucci smirked. "Then seduce our boss. With your chest? Maybe the young master will fall for you."

Hilton blushed scarlet. "You wicked girl—don't say such things!"

"But seriously… what exactly is our boss? The way the wizards talk about him, they sound terrified. I'm really curious."

"Who knows… ah—!"

Bellucci froze mid‑sentence.

Because the man they were whispering about—the handsome young boss—was standing right in front of them.

With a giant, fierce black dog at his side.
