Chapter 414 - Chapter 414 – Mr. Sesen

Konpeki Plaza.

The most luxurious hotel in Night City, Konpeki Plaza was also quietly under Arasaka's control. It had long represented the pinnacle of service and opulence in the city. Even members of the Arasaka family acknowledged this, so naturally, during his brief stay in Night City, Arasaka Sesen chose to reside in what was, in a sense, his "family's" hotel.

"This is my first time at Konpeki Plaza," Jack said, gazing up at the massive skyscraper that seemed to disappear into the clouds. "So, what's the deal inside? Karl, give us a preview."

"I've only been here once myself—and I was under escort the whole time."

Karl finished the last bite of his bacon sandwich and led the way to the entrance. "The rules are the usual. You'll figure it out once we're inside."

"No weapons allowed?" V asked as he followed.

"Nope. They've got a designated locker system. Of course, VIPs can carry some personal weapons—someone like Sesen wouldn't be stopped. For us bodyguards, once we're inside, we might get issued something standard. Like a Kenshin."

As Karl spoke, a security officer at the entrance raised a hand to stop them.

"Please remain at the entrance for scanning. Line up and proceed in order."

Karl, already familiar with the process, stopped and waited for the scan. Once it confirmed he wasn't carrying anything dangerous, the guard stepped aside and let him into the grand lobby.

Thanks to Karl's earlier heads-up, the rest of the squad also passed the scan without trouble.

They weren't here as guests, so they didn't check in at the front desk. Instead, as previously arranged, Konpeki's internal security allowed them to take the elevator straight up with pre-authorized access.

As they ascended, Oliver asked the final question before the meeting.

"So what do you think of Arasaka Sesen?"

"If you want the jokey version: it's all in his eyes. But if you want the serious take—he's... different."

"Different?" V turned to him. "What, not just your standard rebellious corpo heir?"

"Most rebellious heirs don't form their own faction within Arasaka and constantly challenge their own father."

Karl added, "Honestly, when I look at Sesen, it's like staring into a fire."

"A fire?" Jack repeated, puzzled. "Didn't expect you to use something poetic like that for a guy like him. My first impression? Just another corpo brat with daddy issues."

"Sure, he looks like that. And maybe I can't fully explain it. But it's something about his eyes—they burn. His energy, his drive… it doesn't match his age. It's like there's something burning inside him that won't go out."

"Could just be high-end optics," Oliver joked, tapping his own cyber-eyes. "Mine can glow too. Still… you said it, Karl. I trust your read. Even with cyberware, you can still see something deeper sometimes."

"Like when Jack keeps insisting he's got 'sincere eyes'?" V chuckled.

The elevator pinged.

"Top floor. Get ready," he added.

"Our access worked—straight to the top," Oliver noted, watching the numbers flash. "Tavernier Suite. Hundredth floor. Top of Konpeki Plaza. Damn—we're higher up than most megatower rooftops."

"Higher than the building," Karl said as the elevator doors opened, "are always the people who built it. The workers who bent their backs to raise this place—they were the first to look down on the world from here. They come first."

"Still, it's the rich bastards living here now who get to enjoy the view," Jack muttered.

As the elevator opened, Karl recognized the layout immediately.

Hanako had used this exact suite during her stay at Konpeki. The Tavernier Suite was practically reserved for Arasaka family members. Naturally, Sesen hadn't changed a thing.

Inside, Sesen was already waiting. He'd clearly been notified of their arrival, but he was dressed surprisingly casually—in a bathrobe, no less. He looked relaxed, even vulnerable.

This is too relaxed.

Karl stared at the man seated at the breakfast table with his back to them. Was he really this trusting? It was odd. If he were in Sesen's shoes, he wouldn't even trust himself this much.

But hey—if the client trusted them, that was their business. Karl was just here to do the job. He wasn't about to argue himself out of a paycheck.

After a brief moment of hesitation, he stepped forward and said, "Mr. Sesen, we've arrived."

Mr. Sesen.

The rest of the team traded glances at Karl's choice of address. But after a second, it made sense.

Karl tended to use "Mr." with older men as a form of respect. And what else were you supposed to call him? "Mr. Arasaka"? That would get confusing quick.

"Karl."

Sesen turned slightly, nodded, and kept eating.

On the table were bread, milk, and eggs—nothing fancy.

And something else: a flyer.

Oliver's cyberoptics zoomed in instantly.

His expression turned strange.

He hadn't expected the so-called crown prince of Arasaka—the man who might one day take over the whole empire—to be reading a Cloudtop flyer over breakfast.
