Chapter 10 - Idol Killer

The dim light of the storm had faded, and the morning after the bloodshed, Jayden awoke in an unfamiliar bed, surrounded by the cold, damp air of a fortress buried deep underground. His body ached, but his mind was sharper than ever. He sat up and glanced around, his instincts honed from years of survival telling him something was off.

Soryu, sitting at a nearby table, noticed Jayden's gaze and smirked.

"You're awake. Good," Soryu said, leaning back in his chair. "We've got much to discuss."

Jayden rose and moved closer, his eyes scanning the strange underground hideout.

"Where are we?" Jayden asked.

"The Silent Hearts' base," Soryu replied, not looking up. "This is where we train and where we plan. And you, Jayden, are going to learn much about yourself here."

Jayden opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted by a heavy knock on the door.

"Come in," Soryu called. The door creaked open, revealing a familiar face.

A young boy, no older than six, stepped inside, his eyes still wide with confusion and fear. Jayden looked at him, piecing together the connection.

"You took him from Micah's house?" Jayden asked, his voice low.

Soryu nodded, his expression unreadable. "He's with Mikio now."

Jayden blinked, his mind processing the name. "Mikio?"

Soryu's lips twisted into a faint smile. "Mikio is our leader. He's... powerful. In ways you wouldn't believe. Some say he might even rival Hajime's strength."

Jayden narrowed his eyes, intrigued but not entirely convinced. "I see."

Before the conversation could deepen, a distant rumble of thunder sounded overhead. Outside, the storm had passed, but the atmosphere remained thick with tension. Soryu stood up, pushing the boy gently aside to lead Jayden through the dark corridors of the base.

As they walked deeper into the labyrinth of stone walls, Jayden couldn't help but feel the weight of something unspoken. Soryu had never spoken Hajime's name before. Why now? Why so randomly? Had he known Hajime? How could a boy who met such a man become like this? And yet here he was, standing on the opposite side of the battlefield.

Finally, they reached a small, dimly lit room. Soryu motioned for Jayden to sit.

"I've never really told you why I became who i am today'" Soryu said quietly, taking a seat across from him.

Jayden raised an eyebrow. "I've always wondered."

Soryu's gaze darkened, his eyes distant as he began to speak, the pain of the past evident in his voice.

"I was a student of Hajime's. For years. He trained me in absolute combat, taught me to fight with every part of my being. But there was one thing he couldn't teach me…" Soryu's voice trailed off for a moment. "The arcane. I couldn't learn the arcane. So I became something else. A living weapon, built for battle. Hajime... he was like a father to me. Or so I thought."

Jayden's expression softened slightly. "What happened?"

Soryu's fists clenched. "We were on a mission. Just like any other. But when we completed it, Hajime... he collapsed. His heart, it started failing on him. Coughing up blood, barely able to stand. I could do nothing. And just when I thought we were safe..." His eyes hardened. "They attacked us. Mysterious figures. Devils, it seemed. I couldn't even see their faces. We were overwhelmed."

Soryu's voice grew quiet, his tone bitter. "Hajime... he watched me die. He left me. I remember everything. He checked my pulse, checked for any sign of life, but there was nothing. He thought I was dead. He left me under a tree, thinking I was gone. Alone. It's hard to forget."

Jayden leaned forward, his eyes narrowing. "You were alive?"

Soryu's gaze turned icy. "I was. Barely. I survived with the defibrillator he tried on me... by some miracle. I wasn't dead, just broken. But Hajime... he didn't know. He abandoned me. I spent years healing, hiding in the shadows, my hatred growing for the man I once called a mentor."

He paused, looking down at his hands. "That's why I became the Idol Killer. Not just because of what happened with Hajime, but because of all the leaders and false heroes out there. They all stand on their pedestals, acting like they're above the rest, using their rank to do harm and betray their own cause like Micah did. I'm going to tear them all down."

Jayden absorbed Soryu's words in silence, the weight of the pain in his voice not lost on him. It was a rawness Jayden understood all too well, the scars of betrayal running deep.

"I understand," Jayden said after a long pause, his voice steady. "But what about Mikio? Do you trust him?"

Soryu's lips curled into a small, cold smile. "Mikio's power is unlike anything you've seen. He leads the Silent Hearts, and he's given me a purpose again. Together, we're going to bring Elunara and Hajime to their knees."

The air in the room felt heavier now, as Jayden and Soryu locked eyes, an unspoken understanding passing between them. They were both broken, but in their own way, they had found a twisted sense of purpose.

Meanwhile, in Elunara, news of the murders spread quickly. The capital buzzed with whispers, and rumors began to take root.

Hajime, Seaphine, Elijah, and Yuna gathered in their makeshift meeting room, the newspaper lying before them on the table. The headline was clear: Jayden Haruki and an unknown accomplice wanted in Valoria for the murder of High Order Priest Micah.

Seraphine's face paled, her fingers trembling as she read the article. Elijah sat back in his chair, arms crossed, while Yuna's gaze remained fixed on the paper, her eyes narrowing with a quiet determination.

Hajime leaned forward, his brow furrowed as he studied the article with a cool, unreadable expression.

Seraphine, clearly shaken, asked, "Do you think... is it really him?"

Hajime didn't immediately answer. Instead, his gaze shifted briefly, as if he were seeing something far beyond the walls of the room.

"I'm not sure," he said quietly, "but there's certainly more to this than meets the eye. That second person…" He paused, his voice almost a whisper. "I may know who they are."

Yuna's eyes widened, sensing something deeper in Hajime's tone. She stood up and placed a hand on the table, her voice firm. "We have to trust Jayden. He wouldn't do something like this." She turned to Elijah and Seraphine, her guilt heavy on her shoulders. "I know him. I'm certain of it."

Elijah looked at her with a somber expression, but Seraphine remained silent, lost in thought.

Meanwhile, in the darkness beneath the surface, Soryu and Jayden were preparing for what was to come. The two stood facing each other, the weight of their intentions clear in the air.

"We wipe Elunara off the map," Jayden said coldly, his gaze sharp as steel.

"And then…WE'LL KILL THE FOOL." Soryu added

Jayden's face hardened as he nodded. "The man who betrayed me, the one who left me to die... Hajime Sasaki. It's time he faces the consequences of his actions." Soryu's expression remained unreadable, but a flicker of something darker passed through his eyes.

"Let's see if you're ready to face him," Jayden said, his voice low and dangerous.

"You'll have to walk the same path I did... but the difference is, you won't be alone." Soryu reassured " from this point forward we're partners … my broken killer" Soryu added

The two men exchanged a brief, intense look before turning their attention to the task at hand. They were united in their desire for vengeance. The Silent Hearts were their tool or rather were they its tool? Either way together, they would bring calamity to those who stood in their way.
