"Granny," Rania called as the woman came closer. She bowed, and the woman opened her arms. They hugged warmly and kissed cheeks. Rosalind stepped forward and did the same while the rest of us stood watching.
"What a surprise. You should have told us you were coming," Rania said.
"Yes, Granny, we would have prepared ahead of time," Rosalind added.
"There is no need for all that," Grandmother replied, then turned toward where Queen Fortuna stood. Her voice carried with a hint of challenge. "Fortuna, won't you come and greet me? Or have we become enemies?"
Queen Fortuna's eyes widened, as if the woman's words were not true. I couldn't help but chuckle softly as she walked over with a forced smile. She kissed Granny's cheeks, then stepped back and bowed.
"We can't be enemies, Granny. Who would dare to make you an enemy?" she said.
"I don't know, Fortuna. I thought you were one," Granny answered before walking past her.
