We were outside in the garden while the search continued in the servants' quarters. I just wanted the ring to be found quickly. The king was restless, and it made me uneasy. Every time I looked up at his terrace, I saw him standing there, watching us silently. I kept praying that once the ring was found, everything would go back to normal.
"Don't you find it strange?" Marissa asked suddenly.
I was sitting on one of the long benches while she stood behind me. Her voice was low, careful.
"What, Marissa?" I asked, frowning a little. I didn't know what she was talking about this time.
"The king has never said anything before about losing his things," she began softly. "Not even once. And now he's making a big announcement about a missing ring? My lady, no one would dare enter the king's room. Not without permission from the guards. It doesn't make sense. A servant would never do that."
