Chapter 389 – Five Seconds

Boom!

Boom!

If a general question were asked about which part of the country had the most activity, the concrete answer would be South Carolina and Alabama, but mainly all the chaotic disorder was in South Carolina. Right now, the place was a complete disaster.

Gunfire could be heard everywhere, echoing between buildings without knowing exactly where the dangerous zones were. As a result, the walkers were extremely agitated and in constant motion.

Two unmanned vehicles, or as their syllables indicate (UCAV), were flying over the area where Jason was moving. One of them had used several missiles to wipe out a large horde that had formed not far from the group's position.

The superior firepower of the combat drone was unmatched. With these unmanned vehicles, Jason had a powerful level of armament at his base. Because of this, he felt more at ease now that the walkers had been dealt with.

Just as he had expected, things were far from normal. At this moment, after the walkers had invaded the front and attacked the group directly, everyone entered close combat, and only ten minutes later all the undead had been eliminated.

Some suffered a few injuries, especially those soldiers who had been crushed by the numerous walkers. It was surprising that the Arm-3J combat suits and their variants protected the human body from bites and the occasional bullet impact.

It was all thanks to that special suit, which had saved many lives, especially in this kind of situation. After everyone had taken control, the military trucks that Jack had brought from the Beaver shelter formed up with the other military trucks that had been positioned to leave the area at any moment.

"Zz… Northern group, the area is clear."

"Zz… No changes in the surroundings."

After all the walkers had been eliminated and the gunfire ceased in this place, the walkers in the surrounding areas no longer approached. As for the giant monsters, all of them were torn apart by missile launchers.

The method was not the prettiest, but there was no denying that it was a great result amid all the disasters those large walkers had been causing.

On the now-quiet streets outside the building where Jack's group had taken refuge, soldiers patrolled and walked slowly along the roads on both sides.

On the central street, an armed vehicle passed every few minutes, and there was a machine gun on each Humvee, monitoring. Observing the movements at the surrounding corners, these units closely monitored the area and eliminated walkers if there were any.

Right now, the condition of the sick was being checked, the wounded were being treated, and a record was being made of the people Jack had rescued.

"All these people you captured should be members of that Firefly organization. From what I've heard from sources we can consider reliable, this group belonged to the army before the CRM was formed and imposed somewhat harsh laws."

Jack was receiving medical treatment while recounting in detail all the information he had obtained, including his own conjectures. "The CRM's foreign and internal policy can't be very nice. If a part rebelled and there were different minds, it means they act in another way."

"The Fireflies want to kill them, the CRM's high command, but I don't think that stops them from killing innocents. They justify themselves by saying they're doing something humanity truly needs. Isn't that funny?"

Jason sat to the side, silently listening to all of Jack's words while thinking to himself.

Do the Fireflies exist in this world as an organization external to the CRM? Luke had never heard of anything like that, so he immediately thought it was something new or something that had died out long before anything new was published.

But Luke knew that when he died he had completely finished watching the series, and he only vaguely remembered that something about a continuation had been announced… Could this really be what would happen next, and right now he had discovered something that would occur in the future?

He couldn't know, but he did know what decisions he would make next. According to what he knew thanks to the drones that were providing him with real-time information, Reginald's base was in good condition.

Sam, from the central base, decided to provide support so that all the enemies that were gathering would be eliminated with a few missiles, and with that it would be enough so that the Beaver base would not be completely destroyed.

Only after stabilizing things in this place did Luke take charge of monitoring the areas near the Beaver base, and he knew that although their situation was very bad, he was certain they could recover.

He had long been hearing about the Firefly organization and the CRM. He remembered hearing about it in Texas, and now South Carolina housed a base that he definitely had to monitor.

Now this was his territory, a place he planned to take even if the people here opposed his entry. No one had the right to stop his plan to clean the city. Who really wanted something like this? Everyone wanted to get rid of the walkers, clean the place where they slept, and have order restored.

Everyone was afraid; that was something Luke accepted without making excuses. However, everyone had to at least try to see his foreign and internal policy, and with some explanation everyone should accept it. If there were some somewhat harsh laws, for people who had survived until this day, it wouldn't be so problematic.

Luke always accepted hardened soldiers, survivors with strong character, and men with high levels of leadership. Those people in particular were accepted and sent directly to a military base for training. Jack was a simple soldier who earned his way to captain when he proved what he could do.

And as a result, now Jason had an excellent job. Things like these were valuable, and the more he expanded, the lower the chances were that the CRM would find them.

But now Luke had strong air defenses, drones, combat aircraft, and even nuclear bombs. He had many hidden cards, so he wasn't afraid of being found by anyone. What he needed now was time, soldiers, and plans.

"It's no surprise at all. It's known that the CRM eliminates communities with high growth potential." After Aifon had been silent for a while, he said in an indifferent voice.

"What kind of psychopaths are they?" Jack asked as he put on a long-sleeved shirt again.

"The Fireflies are a problem, and we don't know much about them. It's said they act against the order imposed by the old government, but they're nothing more than deranged terrorists of good people."

"Their modus operandi is very peculiar. They don't accept just anyone, and they only cause harm in pursuit of two things: either people join their cause, or they end up destroying a shelter so that internally people join them, like what happened to the Beaver community."

Emma, who was already stabilized, looked at the commander of the organization to which she had sworn to give her life and said, "So, what will you do when we come face to face with those organizations?"

Jason looked at Emma, smiled reassuringly, and said, "You already know. At least the Fireflies clashed with us, killed my soldiers, and injured innocent people. They will be eliminated…"

When he finished saying these words, Daryl arrived at the room and looked at Jason, then said that two people had been placed in a room so they could proceed with the interrogation.

Jason nodded, removed his vest, put on black rubber gloves, then looked at Jack. He thought for a moment and said, "Do you want to come hear what our friends have to say?"

"Me?" Jack was very surprised. He looked at Jason with an expression of gratitude and said, "I'd love to!"

"And you?"

Emma looked at Jason and nodded.

"Then let's not waste any more time!"

Everyone headed toward the room where the leader of the Firefly group that had been attacking Jack's group was, and Jason said, "I always hate doing this, but I have a few questions to ask you."

"Rrr!" The mouths of two people were tied with cloths. Both of them looked at Jason with visible fear in their eyes.

"Relax, I haven't asked anything yet."
