"Everyone, don't be scared, we have to make sure the enemy is completely dead, then we will burn its body, but not before taking some photographs." Rosita, who had come down from the building George jumped from, moved forward slowly along with Michonne, Lee, and Victor, who were also in the group.
When Victor approached that enormous corpse, he felt a chill run through his body and said, "Just look at those claws, I'm sure it could cut a corpse in half with relative ease."
Rosita frowned and didn't waste time. This huge walker was dead after all this. But that didn't mean it was any less terrifying, on the contrary, it was too terrifying to stay near it for long.
"Alright, the photos have been taken!"
"We have to burn the body!"
After pouring gasoline over the corpse of the giant infected, Rosita lit it on fire and watched as that monster burned in flames.
"What the hell is happening to the world…"
...
On the other side, Jason had arrived at the building where the others were after catching his breath and recovering his weapons. The place was a disaster, and he couldn't even consider clearing two buildings instead of one.
"My back…" As soon as Jason touched the ground of that building, he was held up by Daryl and George, who were watching over him.
Amy, to one side, asked a question that had everyone worried: "Are you hurt?"
Jason had taken off his mask to catch his breath. Part of his face had bruises, and his right eye had blood, giving him a rather haggard appearance at first glance.
Upon hearing this, Tina quickly pulled medical supplies from her backpack, and only then did everyone realize that Jason's wounds were anything but minor. On his back alone there was a terrifying wound from which blood continuously flowed, not to mention all the bruises across his body.
"They messed you up bad, man!"
Jason looked at Daryl and said, "That damn monster is a real demon, it sent me flying twice with its enormous strength."
"Hurry, Tina, help Jason bandage up quickly."
Faced with everyone's concern, Jason smiled with a pained expression and said, "I'm fine, as far as I know these aren't walker wounds, but you can check me since I was sent flying several times."
"Don't worry, it's just a skin trauma, scary to look at."
Although she said that, the wound was not superficial, and Tina had to debride it for a long time before carefully disinfecting it.
"We have to head back quickly and ask Bob to finish stitching the wound when we get to the RV."
Tina wiped the sweat from her forehead. She had been studying with the people in the base infirmary before, and this was the first time she formally handled such wounds.
Seeing that the wound had been treated, Jason immediately stood up with the help of George and Daryl.
"Then let's go quickly."
Without hesitation, everyone packed up their things and went down the stairs. They were on the eighteenth floor. Abraham and the others also moved ahead when they saw Jason was badly injured, and they worried a lot about running into a monster of the same nature as the one from earlier.
Everyone could see the situation in the corridor through the stairwell glass. The building was basically filled with numerous walkers, and there were also a small number of corpses in the corridor, all dressed in dirty professional outfits, which filled them all with disappointment.
They had obviously come to this place in search of survivors, hoping to discover if there were personnel who had remained alive in these places. But so far, they had found nothing but dead people, mutated walkers, and unknown monsters.
Everything proceeded smoothly. There were very few walkers along the way, and those that appeared were eliminated by Abraham and Daryl, who were the first to act as soon as they emerged. Soon everyone reached the second floor.
Along the way, some grabbed chairs to block the doors they passed, but the further they went, the fewer walkers they found.
"We're already on the second floor, let's go directly without checking other rooms."
Jason didn't have to say anything. Everyone in the group feared running into one of those creatures Jason dealt with alone. There was no guarantee there wasn't another one, so now the only thing they wanted was to get out of this place.
George, who was supporting Jason, suddenly felt him stop, looked to the side strangely, and noticed that Jason wanted to stop.
"What's wrong?"
The surrounding environment was extremely quiet. Even though George lowered his voice on purpose, everyone could still hear it. They all stopped and looked over.
Jason pointed at the corridor door and asked with some uncertainty,
"Abraham, can you try opening that door?"
"Of course!"
Crack!
What responded was the noise of the doorknob turning, and Abraham lightly shook his head.
"T-dog, your moment has come, white knight."
Michonne raised her eyebrows and reached into her pants pocket.
Soon the hallway door was opened. It seemed it hadn't moved in a long time. When opened, a tearing sound was heard. It was probably the sealing strip stuck to the door after being shut for so long.
Abraham, who opened the door, was the first to step into the hallway, followed by Daryl and Rick, and Glenn held a weapon to cover the rear of the group.
This door led to a dining hall that also occupied a large area, using a great number of integrated dining tables. It was more of a cafeteria than a dining room.
George extended his hand and pressed the back door, and discovered that it was also locked here—was someone inside?
Looking inside through the window, he didn't find any walker traces, and Jason felt that this scene could give them clues of survivors.
The probability of survivors in the dining hall suddenly increased, and it was still T-dog's time to act, but for safety reasons, Abraham took the lead and raised his weapon.
The first impression upon entering this dining hall was that it smelled different from the rotten corpse stench—this one smelled like the sewer—but no one cared. Compared to other things they had smelled, this was nothing.
The source of the smell was found quickly. It turned out there was a funnel-like thing installed under a huge tub. The tub was under the funnel, and a bit of water had accumulated over the funnel.
At that moment, water was still dripping into the bucket from the bottom of the funnel, and Abraham looked at the bucket above, which seemed to contain some wastewater, clearly a simple filter.
Attention quickly moved away from the object and Abraham began scanning the entire dining hall.
Although the dining hall wasn't small, you could see the entire place at a glance, and only the kitchen and storage room inside couldn't be seen directly.
There were many shelves stacked in the corner.
There was nothing on them, and many packaging bags beside them, with many tied plastic bags full of trash.
The entire dining hall was filled with signs of human activity. This made the group members look at the man who was still looking around in surprise, marveling at his sharp insight.
They tiptoed to the back kitchen, which was also empty, and finally everyone fixed their eyes on the closed storage room door.
Jason had already focused his gaze on that place and clearly pointed at the storage room's closed door. His expression was so strange he might as well have plastered "There's someone in there" across his face. Nodding, Daryl walked lightly toward the door.
All weapons were aimed at the storage room. Due to Jason's back injury and everyone watching him, he simply extended his hands and wisely stepped aside to silently await the inspection result.
Rick and Abraham were the first to walk toward the door, and the rest spread to the sides. Glenn lightly placed his hand on the doorknob, and everyone looked at each other and nodded at the same time.
Click, creak!
All weapons were aimed at the door at the same moment, and the originally dark room was brightly illuminated by the flashlights of several people.
The situation inside the room became visible instantly. The storage room wasn't too small. There were several people lying on the floor. It was hard to tell if they were alive or dead. All of them were covered with a thick layer of cardboard.
The flashlight beam swept over several people, and these "people" finally moved.
"Eh!"
A sound similar to a walker's growl came out, and everyone couldn't help tightening their weapons, but then they heard a violent coughing sound.
"Cough, cough, cough! Cough, cough, cough!"
The few people on guard were obviously nervous and nearly killed those people. But Abraham was the first to step forward, extend his hand, and after an inspection said, "Come on, they're still alive!"
"Zz… Exterior team, we've found survivors. Everyone come in with stretchers, we must get them out of this place!"
