Chapter 35 - Heating up

When she was about to submerge into the water again, her body touched another body as cold as hers.

A soft gasp escaped from her lips, and she turned around and saw Karlos in front of her.

"You are alive?," said Berlin, her voice sounding nothing less than a whisper, and she breathed through her mouth.

"I am," replied Karlos, watching her closely as they both kept themselves afloat in the water.

"What were you doing down there?" She splashed water on his face feeling irritated with his earlier actions. "You scared me!... I thought you were drowning or something" She exclaimed.

"Sorry..." Karlos apologized, surprising himself. "My body is acting strange."

She was taken back by his apology and his explanation. It is true that he had been submerging and resurfacing out of the water countless times.

"Is that why you got in?"

"What were you expecting me to do?" She retorted back.

Karlos eyes looked at Berlin, his face not giving away anything.

Berlin could feel the bite from the cold water, and kept shivering.

"I didn't bring extra clothes to change into." She lamented over her predicament.

"You can have my top," came the direct solution from him, knowing she had dipped into the water because of him.

"How thoughtful. I wonder why it didn't cross my mind." replied Berlin, and she noticed a smirk on Karlos's lips.

Karlos submerged back into the water, realizing his body was heating up again.

At this moment, Karlos didn't need to be told that he had been drugged, who had dared to drug him?

His eyes darkened as anger slowly rose in his heart. He couldn't wait to burn that son of a bitch alive.

Minutes later, Karlos couldn't stay afloat on the water for two minutes without submerging himself. Despite the cold atmosphere, cold water, it still wasn't able to calm him.

Berlin watched as he resurfaced from the water so many times, running his hand through his wet hair.

"How are you doing there?" questioned Berlin from where she was, with a little distance between them. "Are you okay?"

Karlos looked at her as nothing less than the burning tip of a piece of paper that didn't look like it was going to extinguish any time soon. He stared right into her eyes with yearning.

Berlin was beginning to feel uneasy as well with his gaze but drawn closer to ask him what was the matter.

" I'm fine " Karlos replied as he kept splashing the water over his face.

Raising her hand, Berlin wiped the water droplets off her face. Berlin mumbled under her breath, "It's cold in here."

"Mm, I know, " replied Karlos where he could imagine how worried and scared she might have been at his sudden disappearance.

Right now, his hands itched to hold her. By the look of it, he could tell it wasn't a good idea but the most bizarre thing to seek when she would flatly reject him as she had done on many counts. And forcing himself on her wasn't in his nature.

Never, said Karlos in his mind. He said, "Come with me," and Berlin's anxious eyes met his.

"Where are we going?" asked Berlin slightly worried by thinking that he was taking her to another spot to make out more.

"Don't worry," Karlos looked into her eyes, and he added, "We are heading back. "

"Okay..." said Berlin a little sad for leaving here so quickly when they just got here.

When they both got out of the water, she turned to walk away, Karlos caught hold of her hand.

"Wait," he said, and he took the shirt that he had placed on the rock, handing it to her. "The night is colder for your drenched clothes. You can have mine. It's perfectly alright."

"Thank you…" Berlin wondered why he was being less distant but without asking any question, She decided to put it on.

When she wore the shirt, Karlos saw Berlin's face had turned slightly pink and flushed.

Glancing one last time at the beautiful view before her, Karlos noticed her sad face.

"We could always come back." replied Karlos, and his other hand reached for his trousers putting it back on.

Berlin turned distracted by Karlos's chiselled and toned body. She sucked her breath while watching his broad shoulders and the way his upper body tapered to his trousers that hung on his waist. She removed her attention from him, focusing on the scenery around her.

Who would have thought that Karlos Wayne would know about such a beautiful place, asked Berlin to herself.

She stared at the fireflies that flew around the forest. Some were on the trees and some in the air and it looked like a fantasy world right from a book, A firefly that had come to sit on her palm flew away.

Never before had she come across something so beautiful. Everything around her felt breathtaking, and she kept walking making sure not to trip before her eyes fell on Karlos who walked beside her.

"I never knew something so beautiful could exist until now,"Berlin let him know, her eyes looking away from Karlos when a firefly came to fly right near her.

Karlos who was staring at Berlin , said, "Beauty is a rare thing. Sometimes it takes a while before find and learn that something so beautiful exists." He watched the faint smile and fascination like a child on Berlin's face while looking at the fireflies. "There are places just as beautiful as this. "

Berlin's gaze returned to look at Karlos, wondering what other places he owned like this. She asked him, "There are more magical things than here?"

"Better than that," responded Karlos, and he said, "A lot."

Berlin Kept walking with him while turning back to look at the fireflies that were mostly concentrated around the flowers.

The more they walked, the amount of fireflies reduced, and so did the insects' light. She was made to jump on the broken log of wood that had blocked their way, ducking her head, where there were branches grown low before she straightened her back.

She was in her drenched clothes and blouse, which was covered by Karlos's shirt. Moving her head to the side, she took a quick sniff at his shirt and smelt him and hos cologne on it.

They continued to walk for a minute more, before they got back to the resort.

Karlos dropped Berlin safely to the room without showing his uneasiness, and before he could leave from the front of the door, Berlin stopped him, "Karls"

"Hm?" he tilted his head to the side.

Berlin took off the shirt and drew closer as if she was going to tell him a secret. But when Karlos came closer, she placed one hand of hers on one side of his cheek, and she placed her soft lips against the other side of his cheek, before returning his shirt to him.

She said, "Thank you for tonight. It was nice"

"I was sure you would love it ,"a slight smile appeared on Karlos's lips before he said , "Have a good night."

"Good night, Karl," Berlin wished him and went back inside.

Neither of them noticed that someone had caught their little exchange at the entrance.

When Karlos started to walk away from there, the faint smile that had been on his lips disappeared, and the urge that he had hidden behind his eyes until now reappeared.

He picked up his phone and dialled a number, then spoke,

"Let's meet up"
