She had been yearning to see him but now...
Up until now, he still had not seen her as he had his eyes on his phone. From the looks of things, he looked preoccupied. His fingers typing away on the phone was an indication of his divided attention.
Taking a deep breath, she managed to get herself free from her trance suddenly not knowing what to do.
'Should I retire to bed?'
As she was about to implement her plan, he lifted his eyes and their gaze met. Both of them stood transfixed at the spot with their eyes unblinking.
At this moment, Only God knows what was running through their minds.
Even though it was for a few seconds, it felt like quite a long time for both of them. Finally, they didn't have to be in that awkward situation again as he took a few steps into the bedroom.
"Aren't you going to welcome me?" He asked in a clear voice, watching through her eyes.
Berlin felt as though her heart was going to burst out of her chest any second from then, hearing his voice. Her heart beat became faster and louder in her ears. What was happening to her?
When he was about two steps away from her, that was when she blinked and quickly spoke.
"Welcome home,"
Karlos looked at her, not saying any other thing other than give her a smile, and walked past her.
'That's just it?!' Berlin screamed inside her mind. 'No explanation?'
She quickly recovered from her shock and turned around to retire to bed. She was going to let him get away with it because deep down she knew he didn't have to explain himself to her about his whereabouts or movements. To the public, they were happily married and that would soon also change.
'Now, this is not the time to think sad thoughts, Berlin.' she scolded herself in her mind and smiled brightly like nothing was wrong.
Sigh!
After several minutes during which she tossed and turned, she fell into a troubled sleep.
Moments after she had fallen asleep, he walked out of the bathroom and cast a glance at the sleeping woman.
His gaze deepened as he watched her sleep like an innocent baby. Even though he was just looking at her, he felt a lump somewhere in his throat. It was a feeling he couldn't quite explain.
He helped her cover herself up, shielding her body from the cold properly. When he found out she had pushed the covers away, stirring in her sleep.
He then laid down on the bed, facing the other way, and picked up his laptop. There was still so much work that needed to be done in the office.
Immediately he sat down on the bed, opened his device and got to work.
He was at it for hours and his black hair was messy due to the ceaseless ruffling of his hair.
He continued working on his laptop when suddenly he heard the sound of his phone ringing. He tilted his head to the side and looked at the phone screen.
'Mom'
He ignored the call and continued typing away. The last thing he needed right now was any form of nagging and emotional torture. He needed to finish his work on time.
'I have a few minutes to find out who the mole is before it strikes midnight,' he mentally noted.
After a minute the call finally ended and he continued with his work.
Twenty minutes later he heard another sound.
DING!
He ignored the sound of the text message and narrowed his eyes at what he had just found.
Quickly he typed it to his assistant and gave the necessary instructions.
"All done. The cat finally caught the mouse."
He clicked enter and waited for it to show sent. The moment the icon showed sent, he heard his phone make another sound and the phone light came on.
' Why is Mom still awake?' He sighed and finally picked up his phone.
Unlocking the phone, he saw a message from his mother and clicked on it.
'Son, Cancel all plans you have for tomorrow and take your Mom out. Remember to make reservations. It's an Order and not a request.
He swiped down a saw a picture. What he saw made his eyes widen in horror.
