"Marzella is going to wake up."
Brandon's smile stayed for another second before slowly disappearing.
Rheanne raised his chin slightly to look at his face, and Brandon looked away with a sigh.
"Don't look at me like that."
"Like what?"
"Like... you've figured out what I'm thinking."
"Kael, I've known you for over five hundred years. You could hardly make it any easier."
He let out a soft breath, and for a moment, he considered brushing the conversation aside, perhaps making another joke and stealing another kiss until Rheanne decided to let him off the hook.
"I'm... nervous, Rheanne."
The words came out quietly as he stared at the city, his fingers idly playing with the ends of her hair.
"I don't even know how I'm supposed to look at her when she wakes up."
"But that's only one part of it, isn't it? What happens when... everyone else finds out?"
"Charlotte. Elize. Ravene, Florence, Freya, Amelia..." He paused, rubbing a hand over his face.
