Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Odds against me

If he went with these skills, he would have a total of eight skill slots filled and only five skills. He looked down at the skills he selected:

Spatial Body - Mythical Skill - 2 slots

Loyal Subordinate Bestowal – Legendary Skill - 1 slot

Martial Apex - Legendary Skill – 1 slot

Mental Dominion – Mythical Skill – 3 slots

Second Mind - Legendary Skill – 1 slot

Abyss Veil – Legendary skill- 1 slots

'None of these overlap, and if they do, it's more in the sub-abilities they have. I can only hope I can stack them together. I wanted a skill that would allow me to instantly know how to use these abilities, but that seems difficult to find. I also wanted a skill that allowed me to create or copy skills, but those require four or more slots. I can't pay that price, especially considering the weaknesses they come with.

Copy was a Legendary skill that required me to level up the copied skills as well. I simply don't have that much time. I saved 1 slot in the hope that I can visit a temple and if necceasry request a skill, but first, it seems my time is up.'

Looking up after pressing "Acquire Skills," he noticed Ten nod before lifting his hand toward him. Dantalian felt lightheaded and tired, but the feeling soon subsided. Looking back at Ten, he asked, "Did you?"

Ten smiled and nodded. "Indeed… Little one, I will offer you some final advice."

His expression was more serious than usual. Dantalian thought he saw an apologetic look behind his silver eyes.

"I saw the skills you acquired. However, I have to say—your skills, while perfectly picked, do not make you invincible."

Dantalian's heart sank at those words. He swallowed hard, feeling a sense of apprehension.

"Even if you level your skills to higher ranks, there exist those who can squash you like a bug. If you are not careful, your life—what you experienced in your previous world— could repeat itself.

I'll be honest with you. Many of the skills you acquired were supposed to cost more than one slot. However, we reduced the requirements as an apology and compensation for the painful life you lived."

After saying this, Ten fell silent, allowing Dantalian to process his words.

Dantalian lowered his gaze and closed his eyes. When he opened them again, he let out a breath and smiled. "I'm used to having the odds against me. Thank you for your kindness, Ten. I'll heed your words."

Ten smiled and nodded before lifting his hand. "May your new life be better and longer than your previous one. I wish you great luck, little one."

Dantlian nodded as he felt himself being pulled away from this place—a space he could only refer to as the afterlife.

Once he disappeared, Ten closed his eyes, feeling emotions he hadn't experienced in a long time. He sighed aloud. "What a pitiful child."

The words Dantalian left him with weighed heavily on his heart.

"I'm used to having the odds against me."

That sentence couldn't be closer to truth then the boy relised , after all the world he was sending him to was far harsher than Earth. Torture, slavery, rape, and murder were not just crimes but common jobs and sources of entertainment. But what pained Ten wasn't that the young man had lived a painful life. What truly pained him was the fact that this was the hundredth lifetime Dantalian had suffered—far worse than his last world. Of course, Dantalian was unaware of this.

Dantalian believed he had only died once because he had only come to the afterlife once. While this was technically true, what he didn't realize—what had been kept secret from him—was that the suffering he endured was the fault of the gods themselves.

Ten sighed and summoned the subordinate responsible for this oversight.

Essentially, what had happened was a clerical error—a mistake in the system. When a soul is created, it is automatically assigned a world to ensure that no two souls live the same lifetime as the same person. Each soul is designated a place at the moment of its creation. However, when Dantalian's soul was created, a newly appointed deity was assigned to oversee all souls born in that period. All the souls in Dantalian's universe were placed under this deity's jurisdiction.

That deity's name was Overseer. She had reached a level where she could determine which souls went to which universe, which world, and which life. However, as a newly appointed deity, she failed to notice a critical mistake—she had assigned two souls to a single life.

Since two souls could not inhabit the same body, only the other soul was able to enter the world meant for them. Dantalian's soul, however, was left to wander the multiverse, trying to find its place. But no world it entered belonged to him; each was meant for another soul. Because of this, every world he lived in rejected him. This rejection—an attempt by the will of the world to purge the foreign soul—was what made his life so cruel and painful.

Every world he entered attempted to remove him. The only way to do so was through reincarnation—by ensuring his death. Thus, each world instigated those within it to either kill him outright or push him toward self-destruction. Again. And again. And again.

Whether it was his first, second, or even fiftieth lifetime, his parents, family, friends— even strangers—despised him. If he did not die young, he died old, but in each life, suffering was his constant companion. He faced unimaginable torment. Each death was different—sometimes he was tortured to death, sometimes his family killed him, and at times, he had to watch his loved ones suffer alongside him.

Such was the power of the world's rejection.

The error only became apparent when Ten—Lord of Reincarnation and one of the Primordial Gods—sensed a disturbance in the cycle. A soul was failing to find its world. It cried out as it bounced through the multiverse, searching for a place that would accept it. Only now had this disturbance triggered his connection to the Law of Reincarnation.

At the same time, Overseer had sensed something was wrong but couldn't determine what. Only now—after standing silently next to Ten and witnessing the suffering she had unknowingly caused—did she understand. As Ten showed her the boy's countless painful lives, she remained kneeling, silent tears streaming down her face.

It took her a long time to regain her composure. As a deity who had once been mortal, she understood pain and rejection. But even she could not comprehend the depths of the little soul's suffering.

Even as he endured a hundred lifetimes of torment, he never once cursed the gods.

That hurt her even more.

Of course, he never remembered his previous lives, but in each, he accepted his suffering with confusion, never understanding why he was hated.

Ten sighed as he looked down at the kneeling deity. "Child, the little one does not remember. Moreover, we have given him many gifts as an apology. I do not believe he would blame you, so there is no need to torment yourself further."

Overseer sighed, lifting her tear-streaked face to meet her Lord's eyes. "I… I understand, my Lord. But that is what pains me the most. That he would never find fault in me. His soul, while constantly cleansed of memories, has ingrained itself with acceptance."

Ten sighed again.

"I'm used to having the odds against me."

Those words were not born from memories—but from a pain so deep it had etched itself onto his very soul.

Ten smiled and said, "How about this? I have given him gifts myself , I claimed that some skills required more slots but that's not all I did for him , I also configured some skills such that the number of sub abilities would be more than what their usual tier were. In actuality , while it is true there exist stronger foes , His chances of dying are exceptionally low , his skill Second mind will pick up on that in the near future once he grows up , but I intend to stop it from accurately being able to determine how strong he will be when he grows up. There have been those who died many, many times from assuming they were invincible , I wish the child to have a long life , but for the sake of balance even I cannot intervene or the other higher gods will notice , I don't wish to see your blunder . Since he is finally being returned to his rightful world, why not grant him your blessings? I will allow it this time—three blessings, nothing beyond what the world will permit. Will that be acceptable?"

Overseer looked up at him in surprise. Then, gratitude overflowed from her eyes. "Please… and thank you, my Lord."

Ten smiled and stood, leaving her to her own devices.
